  2. have to say, we have not watched one minute of the game , not even listened to it , been to the show and it was packed , never seen so many people there , even driving home , more traffic than I thought we would see. It seems more and more people are getting bored with the same teams fighting it out , last few years seems its either hawks, geelong , sydney , add in collingwood ( bar this year ) and the care factor is getting less My work normally closes today but its been open as my staff wanted to and been busy all day is it just me ? feeling this way ? I have spoken to many customers this week and they still have a BBQ or something to go to but most didn't care who won or even played ?

  3. Lake is the only player Hawthorn have got from free agency. The difference between Hawthorn and Melbourne is their high draft picks have been stars.

  4. Well done Jack. Jack is going to be very up and down in performance until his body maturity and endurance capacity catches up with the manic way he plays. I too also think this affects his disposal and decision making and this will improve with time. In three years he will be an absolute jet and we will see more and more snippets of this along the way.

  5. I had a suspicion for sometime and it seems to be panning out ( take no credit as only an observation) I think Frawley has painted himself into a corner. I think the club has outfoxed him. My thoughts go to the idea that when Roos came to us he pretty well had most summed up but there were a handful he was interested to see how they went under him. Frawley wasn't one. Once Chip played the ol I'll wait and see...the club stamped his card. Roos spent the year figuring out how to form a backline without him just to be sure. Chips value to us became his compo pick. Something Roos COULD use to rebuild the midfield. Chip thinks hes been clever but hes a pawn. I reckon the club is happy to part with many of the old brigade as it rebuilds its culture. Some have the right stuff and will stay. Others will soon part company. This year is about correcting the ship. This trade-draft is about gettinf some more quality cattle. Next season about playinv real Aussie Roos Football. Thanks Chip

  6. Fair call. Let's breathe some life into this thread then. As some of you may remember, I coach a bit of footy. And more and more I focus on coaching girls (school, underage rep and club) and have coached senior women as well but couldn't continue to commit the necessary hours with a young family. At a period in time when it's not always easy owning up to being a Melbourne fan, I've been incredibly proud of what our club has done for women's football. Our sponsorship of the Victorian League and our support of the exhibition game concept has been huge. I was a little disappointed in the quality of the first exhibition game, mainly because I knew how many quality players weren't playing but this year's game was a ripper. The standard rose significantly. I was pretty excited on a personal level to see a certain young lady in red and blue steal the show because I've been fortunate to coach her in a couple of different teams over the past three years. The female game is expanding rapidly with participation levels through the roof. The 2020 vision is something I thought was a bit of a pipe dream a few years ago but now I'm hopeful we may well have a national competition in the very near future. But I'm am wary when every time the women's game is mentioned on any footy forum the responses still contain some real low brow garbage. I just hope Melbourne members understand how passionate the girls involved in our Indigenous game are and how focused they are on improvement. Like me, you should be proud of what our club is doing and I hope you continue to support our involvement. When I coach, I always tell my teams that the most respectful thing I can do is to treat them no differently to a male team. Please do likewise when you discuss the concept and the future of the female game and do so with an understanding and hopefully an appreciation of the professional and dedicated commitment of the participants.

  7. My mate is a crows supporter and his dogs name is Dangerfield, it farted today and I swear the fart sounded like it said 'Demons' That's good enough for me and about the best sign yet. No one has a clue, anyone who suggests otherwise are just feeding their ego. Edit: last sentence.

  8. Not just you. Now watch Dangerfield, Frawley, Clark walk to Hawthorn or other top team.

  9. No he won't. He'll be kicking 4 in our win over Hawthorn in the GF.Or he'll be out injured. I can't decide which is more likely.

  10. At a grand final bbq today. Everyone thinks they're getting Dangerfield. Bad Photoshop jobs included.

  11. I'm sick of this conservative [censored]. I just want one, genuine A grader, not more draft picks. If it takes pick 2 and 3 to get Danger by himself, then i will be more than satisfied. Plus, imagine the effect it will have on people's perception on Melbourne when we have Dangerfield

  13. Spot on. Hawthorn played 7 straight GFs in a row in the 80's - three of them consecutively against Essendon - and the Lions won 3-in-a-row in the 00's etc etc. Footy history is littered with periods of sustained success, including our own history. As for the OP, I spent the entire last half imagining just how good it would feel to have a premiership all sewn up in the 3rd, to have the chance to celebrate every second of the last 45 minutes of the game. Can only dream.

  16. http://www.blueseum.org/tiki-index.php?page=Greg+Wells Exactly as I remember it and that's not only from the news of the day but from personal conversations with Greg who wore the number 11. One of my saddest memories was watching him play in that grand final for Carlton (even though they beat Collingwood) 33 years ago. Given that he gave everything for the club when he was a Demon, it was painful knowing that he had to go elsewhere to win a premiership. Making it more painful was that the players we got in return were relative duds. Of course, the number 11 evokes pain in the heart of Demon fans even to this day.

  19. Did like the Swans as a child and always despised the Hawks. Will be hoping for a Swans win although they are a bunch of rorting scumbags. They need plenty more flags to catch us up. Be nice if some ACLs popped today. Nasty of me I know.

  22. Just trade the [censored] to the highest bidder. None of this tip-toing around 'poor' Mitch and letting him choose. Whatever the best deal is for the MFC. I'd quite like to see him at GWS for Shiel (or part thereof). If it turns out he never plays another game, then Collingwood is fine.

  26. I rememeber hearing , after Ridley died, that he was the only one willing to break the news to Wells, who didnt want to leave. I was a massive fan and used to wear his number as a kid. I got him to sign the jumper one night before training at the MCG. days gone by. It was a really bad footy decision the club made....unfortunately one of many. But it pales into insignificance against the litany of such in the scwabb / Neeld days. Anyway he still loves the Dees , worked with club after he retired and he got to win a flag so we all move on. Lets hope the next Wells we have wins a flag for us.

  27. Correct Sue, the past does not predict the future 100%. Because if it did, we'd be far better trading for Danger than developing a couple of kids that "may" step up to his level. Our development has sucked big time. We need established players now, Roos has said this, and Danger delivers that in spades and rarely misses games. It's a no brainer, really. If he chose us to move to, we should move heaven and earth to get him. Star player Dangerfield vs. a couple of players that may step up. I know which one if take!

  33. As a 10 year old in the mid 70's the only thing you could boast about as a Melbourne supporter was that we had the best centreline in the league. We were truly dreadful everywhere else but Alves - Wells - Flower was a thing of beauty

  34. We should have already had him (or the Smith's) but we made the recruiting blunder of the century by picking up Cook. That [censored] Prendergast should be charged for bringing the game into disrepute with his drafting.

  35. I am a 44 year old Melbourne fan. I have 1 brother. He is a 55 year old Hawthorn fan. We grew up in Camberwell deep in Hawthorn territory. I went to the 1988 Grand Final with my brother. Anyone but bloody Hawthorn. I am hoping the Hawks are 5 points up deep in the last quarter. Buddy takes a mark 70 metres out. The siren goes. Buddy runs out wide on his natural arc. The umpire fails to call play on. Buddy dobs it. I do love my brother!

  36. I'm fairly confident we will sign at least 1 big fish. Every club has talked to us about trading pick 2 already. You would think, in terms of quality, we would at least get a Tom Mitchell type. It's about short term now; none of that re building [censored] we have been experiencing for the last 8 years.

  37. All those players were on the downward slide, of their career - did any play more than three seasons for their second club? Thanks to free agency players are able to move when they should be entering the peak of their career. I loathe free agency.

  38. Melbourne have been chasing Shiel for upwards of three end of seasons now. He's long been rumoured to want to return home - a la Tyson - and Melbourne have the package (ie high end draft picks) to get it done. Kid is a gun.

  39. He's spent 8 years at a cr@p club that is so far away from playing finals, he has earns the right to chase some success. It isn't a sign of the times. Club Champs like Alves and Wells did it over 30 years ago.

  43. Could not agree more bb.the interesting thing for me is the new regime at the MFC seem so far to be leak proof. No one comments until the situation is finalised. I am amused every time I see in here that we are chasing x player. 99.9% of us have absolutely no idea who Roos, PJ and company have in mind. We have invested our future survival in this group. so far they have performed well and have my confidence. I wait to see what our list looks like come November. Interesting time ahead.

  44. it took a moment to realise, but now I know why the Geelong article really bugged me. Talking about how Mitch would be a great fit at Geelong, providing forward support for Hawkins. Same thing said about why Collingwood are so interested in him. But in all that. There is no club, no club at all, in more need of a key forward than the Melbourne Demons. It is why we paid so much to secure him, it is why he was so important. Mitch Clark was Melbourne's most important player, structurally even more vital than our captain. Now we're talking about him walking off in a straight swap for an inconsistent half-back flanker or a mid/late second round pick. Stinks.

  47. If Danger costs 3 and Toumpas, then the cost would be Frawley and Toumpas. I would do that trade very quickly. Dropping down from 2 to 10 would be a pill but one I might swallow if there were more clubs in the race for him. If Roos and Viney are 'letting Frawley go' - it would be similar to the Clark situation - and I can fully understand. Hogan, Dawes, and Pedersen/Gawn can make a functioning forward line. McDonald, Dunn, and Garland can defend tall players of varying capability. Spinning Frawley and Clark into midfield assets would be my guiding star if I was Roos and co. this October.

  48. Geez Collingwood are turds. They're perfectly willing to pillage our player who wants out for personal reasons when it suits, but when their own player wants out, they tell him basically to get stuffed and tell Brisbane he is worth more than a pick 4. http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/collingwoods-beams-in-bid-to-go-home-20140924-10lkmt.html I hope the karma bus drives straight over the top of the lot of them.
