Love this ... @paigecardona: So as news broke about Goodwin to Melbourne, Jon Ralph is on air swearing black and blue he's heading to Adelaide. #jernerlism23 points

Nothing like the end of a season to re-ignite a demon supporters excitement and enthusiasm in football!16 points

Word is that the Crows threw the kitchen sink at him but he had already verbally agreed to be at Melbourne. Word also is that the club is totally stoked with the appointment. Rate Goodwin very highly. He's also very happy to be coaching with Paul Roos. This was the clincher more than money. Roos is worth every cent13 points

I would personally be really disappointing to lose Trengove, even if he doesn't become a gun like we hoped he could still be a very valuable contributor to the 22 and I'll never forget the faith he showed after the 186 debacle9 points

Well it looks like PartyBoy will live to write another day. Irrelevant now, but it wouldn't have been announced today had it not been for the Adelaide AND impending Gold Coast Fiasco.9 points

Just heard an extract of the press conference and I was very impressed: - has been talking with Dees for about 5 weeks - believes he needs the 2 years apprenticeship to fully prepare for senior coach. - Can learn a lot from Roos - really wants to be part of the 'sustainable success' plan the Dees have in place (i think we will hear the words 'sustainable success' a lot more in future) - had a call from someone at AFC last night to see where he was at with Dees and said he was committed Sounded very calm and assured Spoke very well. Liked him.9 points

Expecting announcement tomorrow morning that Dons drug enquiry to be reopened with primary focus on Goodwin due to new evidence emerging.9 points

Absolutely. And what an opportunity of a lifetime for a coach with senior gig ambitions:1- lengthy contract (I'm guessing) 2- Guaranteed gig after 2 years 3- Two years "practice" - calling the shots without having the pressure or responsibility that comes with it 4- Working with one of the best in the business 5- entering a senior gig already knowing the players and the club, without having to waste time learning the place, ie can hit the ground running9 points

Me too. I wouldn't know a good coach if one kicked me in the crotch, but he apparently has shown promise and the plan seems sound. It also feels nice not to get screwed over, which it looked like we might for a while last night.8 points

Anyone worried about Goodwin's communication skills after the presser should watch the one-on-one interview with Burgo. Much more impressive. But if our catchphrase is going to become 'sustained success', think he needs to practice abit more7 points

Plenty of Adelaide supporters reckon Dangerfield had a close relationship with Sanderson and if anything, this increases the chances of him walking. Very hard to make head or tail of any of this to be honest. I'd be pretty concerned if I were a Crows fan: multiple key players possibly exploring avenues for exit, and an administration making huge decisions on the fly. Scary stuff.7 points

So did the Crows dump Sanderson with the hopes of signing Goodwin or was Sanderson going to go no matter what? It's cruel however I hope they fired him thinking Goodwin was going to jump at the chance to coach AFC.6 points

AFC echo's Brisbane stuff up with Voss last year. 2013 Brisbane tried to high-jack our approach to Roos: Melb WON!! 2014 Adelaide tried to high-jack our approach to Goodwin: Melb WON!! Real turning point for our Club!!6 points

Ok just saw the page.First of all you do realize that page is run by a 15 year old melbourne supporter who does nothing but cause trouble on his page just to get a reaction out of supporters. Its not a rumour its a fake and complete [censored].5 points

The smug ,supercilious know all ,footy bore just never ends with you Machsy. I'll let you in on a secret, which many should learn here. We are all just fans with opinions and theories and nothing we do will change that fact until we are paid by the club for our footy knowledge. Which will never happen. Seriously WGAF?5 points

the main thing I take away from this appointment is the pulling power of PJ and Roos. They make stuff happen. Think we may see even further evidence of that in the draft period. It sends all the right messages re stability, direction etc. Makes Chips comments about wanting good evidence of direction before signing sound even more disingenuous.5 points

Excellent news, coaching aside to have one of the most talented mid fielders of a recent era on board as we improve in that area is a huge bonus.5 points

The way this has been done is reassuring. There are never any guarantees but this was a long term plan which we didn't rush and hopefully it comes together. It just feels better than sacking a coach then having to comb the field under a tight deadline. Also I think we have our 2015 slogan sorted. "We've got the good stuff".5 points

The point of the article is valid with or without the COLA. You need to start that culture with the right individuals and the likes of Maxfield and Paul Kelly were there when they were staring down the barrel in much the same way we are now. Maxfield played in the same junior competition that my oldest son played in at one stage in the 80s. I remember seeing him up on the dais at one of the presentation nights and one of the coaches pointed out that he was a determined young bloke who was "going to make it". He went to Richmond where he was always on the cusp but not quite there, was dropped off their list and found himself at Sydney where he worked hard and became an inspirational captain, played in a premiership and 200 games with the Swans to finish on close to 300 games all up. In short, he got the most of himself and was part of the inspiration for what that club is today. That's quite the opposite of what we see from many of Melbourne's current and recent players but we know that there's a link between Maxfield and Melbourne - Paul Roos who will, I believe weed out those who can't play a role in our new culture and bring in a new breed. I can sense it coming.4 points

Following MFC is done with pride. Wear it on your sleeve, tell the world. I support MFC through thick and thin, when winning (rarely) and losing (often) . That tells people that you are loyal, strong willed, not easily distracted and above all a masochist. I can remember people saying "look at all the Melbourne supporters come out of the woodwork" (yes I am that old) Not me I am loud and proud, Go Deeeeees!4 points

When I had a stint in the SANFL couple of years ago I became good mates with Jason Torney former tiger and Crow. I remember he said Goodwin and Recuito were the masters of Mad Monday and both could enjoy a drink. But all in all he spoke very highly of Goodwin as a leader and mentor to alot of the players. He really is a people person. The reports of Sanderson not being able to connect with players. Well Goodwin is the complete opposite. The Essendon players absolutely loved him just ask Jobe Watson. Players will love playing for this bloke.4 points

[censored] Danger. I wish the AFL had the trust that we could this time around build a dynasty on our own. Trust that we have the right recruiters, development coaches and players to provide the perfect environment for young players to thrive. Of course I completely get that we've had ample opportunity in previous drafts/years and we've got it so horribly wrong. But I don't care to wait now. I don't want to offer the world for a bonafide star of the comp who was brought to life by another club. I want us to do it ourselves for once. I want us to be ruthless in our objective to draft the best two mids of this year in Petracca and Brayshaw, (insert any other player out recruiters believe have star qualities) And inject maybe a ROK, Malceski and Lumumba to add to Cross, Vince and Dawes who were not stars of the comp but who tick the box as teachers and players who will actually nurture and mentor young players unlike Sylvia, Moloney and Frawley in recent times. I understand there's an argument that the MFC can't be afforded anymore time to 'rebuild' and need immediate improvement. But there is risk in everything. Every trade. Look at what has happened to Clarke. It's only my view. But I see us as being extremely lucky to have another opportunity and crack at potentially nabbing two of the best mids in this draft and developing them RIGHT. I don't want to hear one post bring up our past failings because the variables involved are now completely different. It's time to unearth our own stars of the competition. Petracca Brayshaw Viney Tyson Salem Hogan Under the tutelage of potentially: Cross Jones ROK Malceski Vince Dawes Lumumba Vs Scully Trengove Morton Gysberts Blease Strauss (Who were drafted by a completely different recruiting group headed by possibly the worst recruiter of all time) Under the tutelage of: Green Moloney Sylvia Frawley Jones Etc We have been given a golden second opportunity to have a shot at getting it right. My thoughts anyway..4 points
