  1. Who gives a toss how much he costs? Leave the money issues for the bean counters and the dreaming of gun players for the fans. It really does floor me when fans would prefer to worry about player's salaries than making our side as good as possible.

  2. I've heard DS wants out of GWS - wont name sources but he's keen to come back to Vic... Probs no real new news but I don't expect him to be in Sydney for much longer (ie end of 2014) - take from that what you will

  3. Just heard Scully referred to as "an irelevant footballer" on SEN. Pretty much sums it up perfectly. The Dees are so much better off without him.

  4. This is really bad. Family member who's an ICU nurse told me. Long-term recovery at worst - but it can kill you quite easily. Best of luck Clarko.

  5. My guess would be that there key backs have not came on really at all (and Davis being injured) so they need someone back there with some ability. The forwards of Patton, Boyd & Mummy/Giles couldn't go back, they aren't good enough/mature enough so unfortunately for young Jez he has to cop the CHB role as punishment for being a dam fine player. Dare we dream.... Watts Hogan Dawes Gawn Cameron JKH I don't care where you put them, I'll like it

  6. I'm not as big on throwing the kitchen sink at Cameron as most here seem to be. I think success is built on team and committing a big chunk of salary cap to one player is not going to build long term sustainable success. I would rather spread the love.

  7. He's one of those players that fans in the competition love to give it to, but good on him for offering advice on getting Jesse through this difficult time in his career. If he gets a couple of games in before the end of the year I'll be happy.

  8. If he does elect to leave I would hope we would do everything in our power to be one of the front runners to nab him. Something is also nagging at me that the AFL might step in to try and convince him to stay, what little supporters there are love the way he plays and it would be a massive blow to the AFL's pet project if he were to leave.

  10. Would you have thrown the kitchen sink at a young Nick Riewoldt knowing the talent he has and the potential he reached at St Kilda? Now think Riewoldt... but better.. This is what Jeremy Cameron is... Get him Melbourne.

  11. Nice to hear Jesse and Tommy Hawkins caught up for coffee the other week, I believe at Tom's suggestion, to talk about Jesse's injury and help coach him through what would be a difficult period. Champion material right there.

  12. A bloke involved at hawthorn said they inquired and were told we had offered an attractive 4 year deal and he was very interested but GWS weren't happy with it, they felt they would lose Tyson at some stage anyway and I actually think we got the better of the two players anyway.

  13. Yep footy is just a game. Health is a lot more important. I wish him all the best

  14. What I object to, and have since the start, it the public nature of the comments. I'm trying to remember the last coach that publicly individualized about a players poor form in the way Welsh has about Georgio. Say it in house, that's fine, but we need to be united in public.

  15. Port are on top of the ladder with a reject from Richmond as their full forward. Cross and Vince won't be around forever and toumpass/Salem haven't yet proved they are outright midfielders. I like Cameron but I think we still need mids.

  16. As good as Cameron is and will probably end up being, even that's too much to give up. We would be a much better team, overall, with Watts and picks 4&5 (whatever they may end up being), as opposed to just Cameron.

  17. I'm staggered with posters who don't see a problem with Welsh's comments (as opposed to his opinion). Again perhaps he was misquoted but he seems to have form. It is simply not on a coach publicly singling out a a player for such direct criticism as he has done in that article with Gergiou. Not on. Did the posters who think his comments are ok learn nothing from Neeld or in indeed from how Roos goes about things. Look at how Roos reacted to the WC loss. He too was seething - but did he single out any players? Of course not. What senior coach in this day and age (as opposed to the hoary 70's) would? They would be rightfully lambasted in the media if they did. Coincidence that our form has improved since the WC game? No. Casey are a separate side so it is not the MFC call on who caoches them. However no doubt we exert an influence and despite what Arrow has said about the players liking him such stupid public comments mean that it is unlikely he will coach Casey next season.

  18. But what about the "go home" factor? As soon as he possibly could, he'd probably be on a bus back to the Dartmoor Giants!

  19. I hope we don't play Jack Grimes as a tagger. He's about a million times more useful as a third-man up defender playing on medium-to-small forwards like Robbie Gray than he is trying to shut down a dangerous midfielder.

  20. To say 13 professionals is fairly disingenuous and misrepresentative of the reality, when in that 13 you're including kids like Jayden Hunt and Dom Barry, and also guys like Blease, Tapscott and Nicholson who have been poorly coached for years on end. I think the really counterproductive thing is to question a player's character and what he has "in him", when the article clearly states that Casey's undoing was mistakes borne of poor decision-making, which is more a question of experience and training. I can't believe that Welsh's harsh criticism is good for the players' morale or confidence. The more I hear about him, the more I think Welsh is just a monumentally sh*t bloke.

  22. The kid is living with Jack Viney... is there one other guy in the Dees list who you would prefer Jesse live with. You can count on Jack to have the personality, attitude and the passion for the club required to keep him interested. His blind love for the club is sure to rub off.

  25. No chap not joking, true I bait the less accommodating now and again, it is not trolling, I never have to resort to personal insults I have no problem with Welsh's actions I watched the game at Coburg, live, I listened to the 1/4 and 3/4 time, I have talked to the players previously, I was disgusted by the 'performance' in the second half Don't read the training reports if they impact you, it is never about me, just can't help myself sometimes I am Liverpudlian, in my 60's and have led a varied, exciting and interesting life, I don't need people to like me old chap,

  26. Fair dinkum Satry you must be joking. Your posts on this matter are so hypocritical that i can only conclude you are deliberately baiting other posters ie trolling. I simply do not believe you really think it is ok for Welsh to publicly slag of players, particularly given your hyper sensitivity to any criticism of players on this site. I can only conclude you are trying to wind people up (ie trolling), something you have repeatedly admitted to enjoying. It makes it hard to take your views seriously, which is a shame because some of your posts can be quite insightful and your training reports are mostly enjoyable (though at times grating in a look at me kind of a way). I have previously said i was going to put you on ignore but have not done so. I'm going to rectify that now as your bad is outweighing your good and i dislike trolls. I think i'll just choose to view your training reports and save myself the angst of reading posts like the ones littered through this tread. Ciao baby

  27. Haha, we'd be laughing with this. That said, if GWS hold out for another year, I'm not sure too many teams would be able to offer two first round picks. I think it's still short. They'd have to do the deal if it was two picks for one of them and they'd signalled their intention to leave. If Cameron played for the MFC, Saty would claim he was the next coming. That sort of bias I understand, but it's not helpful in this instance. Cameron is a gun. It's understandable that he has a couple of quiet weeks in the youngest side in the comp. I'm almost certain Roos would love to have someone of Cameron's talents. Our issue is do we need gun midfielders more?

  28. You just named 2, 1 million dollar forward recruits. Anyway, I'd throw the sink at him. I'm not sure that's the Paul Roos way of doing things though, but I doubt he'd scoff at a 10 year star forward. There'll be others exiting along side him, so it's going to get interesting. I'm sure a big win against Hawthorn will change the mood around GWS.... lol

  32. I think there will be better deals to build a great team this trade period than that presented by Cameron, assuming Hogan returns to full fitness and demonstrates his class. Everyone in Vic will want Cameron, he is fully valued given his AA and Coleman tally from last year. So the price being paid for him will be overs UNLIKE the sweet deal we did for Tyson and Salem... Reckon there will be a couple of ready to bloom players that we'll line up and pay cheap for.

  33. We've got Sheedy to thank. I have always thought he did it to F*** us over after we didn't appoint him coach. He has hated us ever since. Pretty happy we got away with that one.

  35. Cameron is a wonderful player and will be for many years, but as Bomba said on 360 recently you can get away with an average forward line and win flags. For us it is still about mids, mids and more mids. Quality tall ones that can deliver to our version of Cam Mooney. In theory I would rather spend the salary cap space on two or three up and coming mids rather than betting the farm on Cameron. Those multi year, multi million dollar deals aren't the path to sustained success

She will hold your hand in troubled times(and the seas have been rough) and she will make you laugh like you never laughed before. Then Fl.og will come along and wreck it.

  38. I am a massive fan of danger's and would do anything to get him to the club but midfielders, seem to come and go every year. A 20 year old who already has an All Australian label, nearly a Coleman in his second year and is just an out and out star is waaaaaay to good an opportunity to let slip. We have truck loads of cash available in the cap, more so with Mitchy boy pulling the pin so there is no issue there. This would give us strongest forward line in the comp for at least the next decade!! Whatever you need to do Melbourne get it done!!

  41. The other fallacy in the stat is it doesn't give the underlying reason for the inaccuracy. You mentioned an important one which is the constant pressure meaning little easy kicks at goal. The other thing I have noticed is we are not "giving up the corridor" as much this year meaning that a lot of shots are being taken by the opposition from angles of 45% or worse.

  42. What so 'supporters' can then say "we get told nothing" "we should be kept informed" "the Club just doesn't want to involve supporters"...these sound familiar?

  45. Are people seriously complaining about him saying what most of us on this forum have said? We have too many guys who were picked for specific attributes favoured by the coach of the day who aren't good footballers. That is absolutely true. We have a bunch of full time professionals who don't match up against guys who have to fit their football in around their day jobs. That is also true. He gives credit where it is due, but he is also willing to tell them when they are not performing. I don't have a problem with any of it. These guys need to know that they aren't working hard enough.

  46. Nah, we would have been creamed in the GF, just as Hawthorn were. Flower and Wilson would have missed with injury, and - like the Hawks - we left everything out on the field in the Prelim. From memory, the '87 GF was a warm day, and Carlton were fresh after the week off.

  50. Dawes deserved his one week. You can't swing an arm like that and make contact to an opponent's head and not get rubbed out. Did Rance fall too easily - yes, but the act of bringing an arm down should not go unnoticed. As for Ablett, it was a tiny incident with minimal impact. It has nothing to do with the who (Ablett), it has to do with the what, and it was anothing incident. The other incident involving Ablett annoys me more. Cooney turns his body to the side to make a contest and protect his body (perfect attitude and technique), while Ablett puts his head down to deliberately force illegal contact, and Cooney gets reported!! Ablett is at fault there, not Cooney.
