I don't care what anyone says, this beats the hell out of losing. There is no better way to spend an afternoon that culminates with my arm around my beautiful daughter belting out the "grand old flag " at the G together.16 points

Just walking past the Richmond store near the G. Looks like they have a special on microwaves.....15 points

Pedo has become one of my favourites this year. And this time last year I honestly thought I was a better player than him. All of a sudden the Gysberts trade is a huge win.13 points

In Basketball, that kind of drop step is colloquially referred to as "breaking your opponent's ankles"... And I hate to say it - but Astbury hurt himself. Viney is injuring blokes by just being in the vicinity...10 points

Great to see Mitch Clark continues to support for the boys and I love reading his enthusiastic tweets. It is heartbreaking that he is not playing but comforting that he has the club in his heart and he remains one of us.9 points

I thought Watts was sensational today, he did all the things we have accused I'm of not doing in the past, I'm as guilty as anyone. Ever since Roos had a dip at both he and Howe they have improved immeasurably and I reckon today was the making of Wattsy and just showed how good Howe is. We still make mistakes and that's why the top teams will probably beat us, but as time goes by we will make fewer mistakes and games will all of a sudden be winnable. One thing that we must do is try to keep Cross playing for a few more years, he is a gem and just backs up, contest after contest. Pederson, what can you say he is playing out of his skin at the moment and just gets better every week, boy has he turned it around. I'm glad that Roos has shown more faith in some of the players than I have.8 points

I officially declare we are off the canvas, standing up, putting some punch combinations together, and starting to press. Before round 1, many teams would have penciled the Melbourne game in as a win. We are now in every game for long periods and can hold our ground when the momentum swings. It was great to be there today. We had some amazing brain-fade moments that put the wind up every Dees supporter but overall we had 22 blokes playing a strong brand of team footy. Although some players were outstanding, best of all it was a game of team footy. Even when the Tiges ran it endlessly and too easily off their half-back line, our boys got stuck into the two way running and refused to concede. My hat goes off the Pederson, Dawes and Watts who for big players, ran their backsides off all day and were still grunt running in the last quarter. Welcome back Max Gawn. Roos has turned Pederson from a "he's a good kick" player, into a hard running, pack marking team man. I did not see this coming but I reckon his name stays written in ink on the team sheet for each game. He was magnificent today.8 points

h_h's thoughts don't lead from one to another, they're just random, unrelated occurrences. Don't bother trying to hold him to account, it's pointless. I'd still have hugged him if he'd had the audacity to be nearby after the win, though.8 points

Pedo wow he played a great game. Viney what an animal Jones all class Grimes and Macca and M Jones please stop the turnovers please.8 points

I love the win - no question. But ... isn't it a beautiful thing to [censored] up Richmond's season? Just sit back and enjoy the fallout we have caused.7 points

Its a strange feeling - actually being able to trust that your team will be competitive in games and ... may even have a chance to win... What's it been? 4-5 years?7 points

What a win! And over the Tigers who have the most feral supporters of ALL the teams. I am going to love next week at work. Boy, is the Mrs in for 20 seconds of 'rumpy-pumpy' tonight! GO DEEEEE's!7 points
-
Yeah some bad decisions but they chased and harassed like demons. People are going to talk about the Tiges misses but I reckon at least nine were directly from our tackles and pressure. Beating Carlton and the Tiges in the one year is very sweet to saviour.7 points

I know we beat Carlton and Adelaide but it was this win today, that gave me a lump in my throat. It was a clear picture of the future of the club with some great young kids playing with confidence and enjoying themselves. I wasn't going to have a beer today. Stuff that.7 points

Who was the f##g who used to post on here and dropped the Dees to go over to the Tiges, bet he's feeling all warm and fuzzy tonight.6 points

I also trust him to win the ball. Doesn't matter if it's inside or out, he puts himself in the right place. On current output I'd trade pick 2 for Tyson alone. The fact that we ended up with Salem as well is nothing short of exceptional. So happy.6 points

Not a perfect game, but a strong consistent game during which he rose to the big moments. He was one of the few still at full pace in the last quarter. At one stage in the last quarter he and Dawes were over near the wing on the Brunton Ave side, and after 4 or 5 long plays both were absolutely stuffed. From there Watts led 2, 3, 4 times and burned off every opponent near him, ended up reciving it on the lead. I was surprised, relieved and delighted with his game today.6 points

So very happy with the win. My heart almost exploded with pride watching our boys fight till the end. There is something special about betting Richmond. My husband who barracks for Collingwood admitted to feeling apprehensive about the Queens Birthday game after watching today's game. We are on the way up. Go Dees!!6 points

Viney and Tyson are the building blocks of a brilliant midfield. Jones is amazing. That's 3 lock in ball winners every week for years to come. Jones was just brilliant, almost a replica of his Carlton game. How good has Howe been since he copped a bake against the Swans? Excellent game, flying around against some tall timber all day. Gawny! Gave us more than Chip has the last few weeks. Chip back to defence to run it out so Grimes and McDonald never do ever again. The Russian. Mumford-like since his return. Scrapping, tapping throwing it on the boot... Made a huge difference. Pedo, wow. Thought the Ox was taking some grabs out there for a second. Good to see the #27 back out there again. Ingo will be proud. Umpires are [censored]. That starts with a c and ends with t + apostrophe s. Watts. Iced it. Worked very hard in the last and killed all the time Richmond had left. Excellent game and the effort I want to always see. I could go on all day, but will finish with the tackling. Ferocious, best I've seen from us. Mauled the [censored] out of them. Neeld wanted us to be the hardest team to play against. Well saying it is one thing, Roos has gone and done it. We have some hard bastards and they all tackle like animals. And that is beautiful.6 points

three tackles in the first quarter, and not wuss tackles, hard tackles, he was on all day.6 points

Bloody. Umpires. Even after a win I' m fuming. It's not the one's they pay it's the blatant ones that never ever go our way. I can't believe how few of our tackles which stuck beautifully on guys with prior opportunity and fail to dispose of the ball in a legal timely manner get paid. Would love to sit down and watch the game with the entire umpiring panel to be informed why things are paid and why they're not - just infuriating Having said that and with everything going against us - just enormous all round. Pedo, Howe, watts, Viney, Tyson, jamar, Chunk - huge games. Cross, Vince, Gawn, Dawes great stuff cameo's everywhere -Bail, m jones, toump, Salem, Jkh, all went when it was their turn. Enjoy a few beers tonight boys and a few days off, then get your [censored] back together quickly as the second half of the season has just been set up. 1 game out of the 8 it is possible for the fairy tale run6 points

For all those who still think Nate Jones is a B grade midfielder, [censored]. Roos' biggest hug and smile was reserved for the co - skipper.6 points

We're on a roll ... everyone in Baja California knows we beat the Tiges and they're happy drinking Tequilas to celebrate ... so tell us about the game. A Tale of Two Cities by George on the Outer credit Charles Dickens……re-written Paul Roos It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way... How apt are those words to describe the Demons fate for the past years. A team going nowhere….to Heaven or Hell. And indeed it has been the worst of times where the spring of hope was dashed by the winter of despair. But now the Tale of Two Cities has been re-written by Paul Roos. No longer is it London and Paris, but rather Sydney and Melbourne! We all know the Sydney story. A 72 year Premiership drought broken by Roos as coach. He adopted a relentless, structured, disciplined approach to the way football was played, and turned a group of ordinary, average footballers into ruthless role-players. What we saw in the game against Richmond, with his new charges, the Melbourne Demons, was a replica of the same formula. Players who last year were headed for the scrap heap, are re-born as integral cogs in the Roos machine. With the 3rd win for the Season the Demons have already exceeded their output for 2013, but it is the style of play that will win more, much more in the remainder of 2014. Today the standout was Cam Pedersen who marked and fought for everything that came his way. Only credited with 8 marks, most of them would have been contested with a 2 goal output to his balance sheet. 12 months ago he moved around the ground at glacial pace: today he is a different player and truly ripped the game apart at critical moments. Interestingly, it was probably the inclusion of Max Gawn that benefitted Pedersen most. Instead of having to pinch hit in the ruck, he was courtesy of Gawn, able to play a lethal role around the ground and in the forward line. Watts, Jamar, Vince, Tyson, Viney, Jones, Cross, Dawes, Salem……etc…..It was difficult to single out others for exceptional efforts, because there were simply so many contributors. This was the first time for many, many years that Demon supporters were not able to walk away from the game saying that player A or B failed to contribute. Today there were no spuds!!! And unlike previous Melbourne teams, when the opposition got back within 4 points in the last quarter, it would have signaled another capitulation. But not this Roos led team. They simply dug deeper, and now believe that once they have their noses in front, they never get beaten. Just like Sydney…. So now with what is unfolding before our eyes, is it too much to hope for a similar outcome in this new Roos fairytale? Sydney had to wait 72 years. We are at 50 and counting down!! Actually we didn't have any "poor" players today so it probably says a lot about the quality of your analysis.5 points

Really loved hearing Eddie's call in the last quarter "The Melbourne hard men, Jones, Viney and Cross...all getting involved". Haven't heard about Melbourne hard men for a long, long time... Roo reckons that Roos probably didn't realise what a good player he got in Bernie Vince, think he might have had an inkling. For a kid playing his 20 something game, Tyson is really just showing his class and incredible strength around the contest for a young kid.5 points

I love Dom Tyson. I don't care how good Josh Kelly ends up being, I'm happy with that trade.5 points

Maybe you could draft up a contract extension for him to sign as well? Two birds, one stone.5 points

I think the reason behind his better form this year is because he is decidedly not 'the man' and he even said it in interviews after the game that he was just told he is 'another player who has to play a role' and that is what you saw today.4 points

Nathan Jones- brilliant brilliant brilliant. The man is a superstar. I keep being in awe of him. That was a brilliant win when you consider it was all midfield driven against a very strong midfield. Go Dees!!!4 points

'As Adelaide learnt the heard way, you can't just rock up against Melbourne anymore. They're an awkward opponent with the capacity to frustrate and a willingness to persist that bridges the talent differential' That's a pretty decent description, I reckon, and one that Roos and the side would, you'd think, be happy with.4 points
