  1. If you are feeling antsy about this, it is your own fault for not accepting the moment he became a Demon that he would either suffer a career-ending injury before he played a game, or would leave on a 10-year $15M deal to the west after 2 years and become the greatest player of all time.

  2. FFS just watched it who started this thread, Dazzeldavey try listening to things in context and not sensationalising things. It is what we all criticise the media for Talk about a play on words, discussion about meeting next week due to lack of responding to current treatment. Barrett - Jesse Hogan has not responded to initial treatment and right now there is significant on when he will be able to play football again Garry then interjects with "what again at all" or this year Barrett is not committal and just says again. Barrett then goes on about speaking with Mahoney and a time frame of being hoping he will be back in the next month, but there is serious doubt on that being the case He then asks Dawes who (as I said earlier) talks about the club not rushing him back even if that means him not playing this year(although Dawes says he does not believe that will be the case) because the club sees him as a 10 year player. That is where it ends

  3. Well done on the achievement. I'm a fan of him at his best; he offers run and intent that others in our side could learn from. If he can develop some consistency and gain a little polish, his next 50 may come a little quicker. It does feel like he's been around a long time.

  4. I don't see any reason for offence. What I do find offensive in a way is the promotion of the Anzac day players as some sort of heroes - implying that they put their lives on the line in a manner similar to the poor buggers who landed at Gallipoli, and before and since wherever war is raged. I do find the photos of team captains on the steps of the Shrine of Remembrance quite offensive, as I find the hype from the ground announcers prior to the game. They are after all only going to play a game of footy - someone will win, someone will lose, and they will all go home after a nice meal and tuck into their warm comfortable beds, perhaps with a few bruises. A very unlucky one may break a bone, that will heal after receiving world class medical care. No semblance of comparison. That does NOT make them heroes, and especially not on Anzac Day!!!!

  6. And still they represent the diggers on ANZAC DAY. Shameful. I will not be watching.

  7. Hope you are right. I think we may have to accept that he might not play this year. Frustrating for him more than us. As far as leaving goes, I heard he really likes Melbourne the place, likes his team mates and I would presume his Coach. If we end up paying him for not playing this year, I would approach his management at the end of the year or earlier and attempt to extend his contract beyond next year. He appears a decent kid and I think morally he may feel that it is not unreasonable, given we will have paid him for 2 years already and not got one AFL game from him. If he refused to do that, I then think we would be in trouble with him staying beyond 2015.

  9. In short Barrett is sensationalising regarding "serious doubt to when he will be able to play again" Dawes thinks he will be a star and recovery doesn't have a specific frame but not going to rush anything (could very well be this month, the next - who knows - long term priorities) Barrett thinks there will be a meeting... doesn't know which week, or with who, but there will be a meeting (insightful) Barrett still has an ugly baby face Barrett: "Thank you Gaz, um, talking about a young Melbourne player then in Christian Salem, but there has been a significant set back to another young Melbourne gun [*checks iPad because its too hard to remember 2 names*], by the name of Jesse Hogan. We know that he is yet to make his AFL début because of stress fractures in his back and what we can tell you tonight is those stress fractures have not responded to the initial rehab program set by down for him by the footy club [*TV in the background showing Hogan stretching his back several times*] and that right now there is serious doubt to when he will be able to play football again. The club today has confirmed to us... Lyon: [*interjects*] "What, again at all or again this year?" Barrett: "Again this yea- well he hasn't even played a game as you know and there is serious doubt to when he will be able to play - [*doesn't really answer GL's question and continues to read the Teleprompter which begs the question as to why he has the dicky iPad - it doesn't make him look anymore important than the joke he is*] the club Gaz has confirmed to us today that he has had a set back in what Josh Mahoney, the head of football, said is that the club is compiling all information relating to the stress fracture in his back, there's going to be a meeting this week, or early next week [*good use of not saying a concrete date or week*] with Hogan [*you'd hope so...*] and all other key play-[*stutters*]-people to work out what the next steps are. I mean Mahoney did say he wanted, expected, or hoped [*which is it?*] Hogan would be back in the side next month but we can tell you that there is serious doubt when that may be the case. Mahoney did add what they are doing with Hogan is they are committed to what is best for him. We'll just ask Chris while we are talking about Hogan, its obviously tough what he is going through [*why didn't you just wait to ask Hawkins... he could tell you from first hand experience*] Dawes: "Yeah definitely, I think you know the frustration for him being a young bloke with a lot of hype around him and the fact that we need key forwards out there that will be the most frustrating thing for him but, ah, I think the club has said and they're going to take what I think is the right approach which is not worry about him playing this season - although I think he will he could well play in a month - they'll worry about a young key position bloke who's going to be a star for 10 years and they'll wont rush him. Particularly with a back injury, there's no point trying to rush him back risking further damage" [*Fin*]

  10. I'd be pretty devastated if Hogan refused to re-sign with us and demanded to go home, considering it seems like season 2014 is a write off. If he has fractured vertabrae, he will not be anywhere near a game this year.

  14. Surely Lucas Cook would have to go down as one of the worst picks ever? Pick 12 and never played a single game. And in this day and age of drafting...

  18. The most significant quote comes from the guy who is employed by the MFC. Dawes has confirmed that the club will be cautious. He'd be surprised if we didn't see Hogan play this year but concedes that missing the year may well be a possibility in the worst case scenario. Seeing Hogan play footy again in the next month is also still a possibility.

  20. Have you actually watched any Demons games over the past few years? Do you understand where this club is coming from? The answer is Ground Zero. Our midfield last year was considered the weakest fielded by any club in VFL/AFL history. It was deplorable. We've come a mile under Roos. A country mile.

  22. I like the way young lib Damien Barrett tried a little hyperbole with 'Jesse Hogan may not play again', deliberately being disingenuous. It's a fair guess our favorite ambulance chaser knows little more than you or I.

  24. I don't understand how people can be so disappointed with the season so far. We're not very good. We all know that. We're a bottom 4 side. But how could you not have expected this? How could anyone who is a Melbourne supporter have expected us, knowing full well what happened to us in 2012-2013, to come out in 2014 and be winning games regularly? Whilst we've lost games to weaker sides, the unfortunate reality of what is happening at this club is that we are not a guarantee to be beating anyone, Hawthorn or Brisbane. We are in the process of improving this club, a club that is coming from effectively VFL standard. So, to be able to say after five rounds that we could have won four of them is a positive, IMO a big one. Over the last two years how many times have we been able to say that? 10? Less? Some will say 'that's just accepting mediocrity'. No it isn't. No one is saying 'this will do, thanks Roosy, you can go now'. If you acknowledge that this is an early stage, not the end stage, in our path up the ladder, then you realise that this is about right for us.

Certainly off the ball and high impact - that doc should be out for at least a while. One of the many bits I don't understand is that he is told the chances of infection from sporting surface is high, he has soil in his open wound which is then stitched up, and then told he was just unlucky!

My father and step father flew for the RAAF and RAF during the second world war....My father was awarded the DFC for downing 3 German bombers over London......My Step father was shot down flying bombers over Buma against the Japanese and was wounded. They never talked about the war....Both have gone now but on days like this I remember....I also remember the jungles of Vietnam. Time to go and get pizzed.....I think

  31. Improvement has come in that our players have only rolled over for a full four quarters once this season. Would have been multiple if not five times by round 5 in previous years. However, they are still rolling over for decent chunks of most matches which is baffling. The one confidence I have is that with Roos speaking at quarter breaks after our atrocious quarters he generally seems to be able to conjure an improved effort. Still to this day can't work out why the players themselves haven't resolved to be desperate for four quarters each week given that effort is the non negotiable at all other AFL clubs and really should be the easiest part for a team short on high level talent to execute. What it means is that the most important attribute of the successor is that he will need to be an excellent motivator (which the better coaches are anyway). Our tackling numbers and quality have been disappointing. I still don't feel like our players play with true intent to compete and win at every contest. I reckon a lot of members of our team kind of hope they'll win their contests instead of being desperate to win them.

  32. Call me old fashioned but loyalty to your club ahead of self is a non-negotiable and more so if you're a professional. Neeld couldn't help it that he was a poor coach. He gave it his best shot and wasn't good enough. As for the other bloke I noticed as late as last week that he was playing the same way he's always played and I guess that the penny's now dropped for Leppa.

  33. The guy played a lot of good games for the MFC and if he made a few mistakes well tough most people do. I find it sad that after the years he put in at the Dees it ends this way. A few on here could be a little more gracious. If I had to choose between him and Neeld it would not be a hard choice.

  34. Ha! Actually, he got too close last week while having one of those set shots in the second half and didn't make the distance. The irritating thing - the very, very, very irritating thing - is that you can see it coming a million miles away..

  40. I really enjoy seeing Dawes in the media because he is really well spoken and a great representative for the club. His perspective on Jesse was quite good, he said the club is taking the approach that this is a young footballer that we intend to have with us for 10+ years so we're getting him right for the long term not the short term. Still bloody frustrating though.

  42. I'm a bit in the Brian Taylor camp about milestones such as this, but congratulations to him all the same. In terms of the way he plays, Rohan Bail has got tunnel vision like nobody's business. I wish he'd dish it off more often inside 50, but other than that I think he gives us a lot of run and effort.

  44. I can't see us going for free agents if Chip goes, the hit to our compensation would be too great. Only way we make a play for Rosa is if Chip stays or in trade. I'd monitor the GWS boys, in particular Shiel, I feel he's gettable. Don't think he has re-signed beyond next year, and if he doesn't, we could prise him away from GWS. O'Rourke is also one who seems eminently gettable. I wouldn't be surprised if we had a massive crack at Nat Fyfe this year. I can't see Dangerfield going anywhere this season, but if he doesn't extend in the next 12 months, it could be on for young and old next year and we might have a reasonable amount of money in the bank by then.

  45. If we're going with Patton, I'd add Prestia. Another MFC supporter. Bring 'em home. Prestia is quick and a clearance machine. Probably the only non-MFC player I actually follow, mainly because he's a Melbourne boy and I hold out some ridiculous hope of getting him one day. If we get two top 5 picks, I'd be offering one for Prestia and use the other on a big forward.

  46. damo is just reporting what he hears. The thing that annoys me apart form the face Hogan has a stuffed back and cant get on the park is the fact we have to hear about it on the footy show. When he first hurt it it was the footy show that revealed it not the club.
