  1. And yet every club goes feral about the possibility of us getting a priority pick this year, having been one of, if not the, worst performing club in the history of the game, on and off field, over the last 7 or so years. This is BS. What's Tippett on? As an aside, I'd take Hogan over Franklin.

  2. I'm really hijacking here, but finally I did ask if Melbourne had spoken to him before the combine.. They had. I asked him about his thoughts in coming to Melbourne, and he said like anyone you do pay attention to the terrible year they had, and how bad development and team harmony looked under Neeld. However, he stated he was shocked at how he considered their interview to be one of the most indepth and constructive. The line of questioning was very direct and the approach the club has about where it's going and the type of players it wants was very firm. They did touch on the past and expressed to him that the MFC wanted to draft players who wouldn't stand for poor results and is he the type of character who plays football for passion or because he's always been good at it. I don't know if it was a dig at current players but seemed to be incredibly interesting. I asked if he'd be happy to come to Melbourne and said yeah I'd be stoked.

  3. Actually on the thread topic, last Friday I was dining with a friend when a young lad predicted to go top echelon in this draft dropped in and was nice enough to give us some of his time. Without probing too much we asked him who had contact with him, how the speeches went and where he was expecting to go. Very very interesting hearing how aggressive some teams were in getting answers, and how personal others were in asking questions I thought wouldn't normally be asked in a job interview situation. Nonetheless that topic is for another time. The important thing was he briefly bought up Tom Boyd and I asked him what he thought. They had played a few games together along the journey and I asked him if he was surprised about the hype. His response was: 'I feel sorry for him'. I replied he's about to be picked up number 1, be on $150 clicks a year and have an AFL career surely you're kidding me. His response was I'm not feeling sorry for him for that.. I feel sorry for him because he'll never ever be the player people want him to be. He is 205cm and 105kgs playing against boys. He stated in the local TAC comp, his teams FB was 81kgs. He and his teammates said his one attribute is overpowering opponents, and for his size he even does it poorly in comparison. His skills left alot to be desired and unsurprising due to his height but this lad said he was the worst below his knees for any PF he'd played with. He stated Daniher and Hogan were far better options and would influence their clubs far more. He used Patton as an example and stated how he dominated TAC Cup and since coming into the AFL has had some good games but is still yet to impose himself. Boyd isn't half of what Patton is, and compared how in the future he saw a Jack Watts (expectations far outweighing performances). He said he was a great guy, a good teammate but it was very interesting to hear. I've always said I wouldn't be interested in Boyd I just want a midfielder but given this, I'll pay close attention to his career and see if infact he was proven correct.

  5. It amazes me the amount of unrespectful communication on this site towards others. I feel it is some people's mission just to tear apart every thread with no real desire to add something meaningful! Please remember this is a thread for all who love the Demons. We are all supporting and (hopefully) members of the same team. Any little piece of information should be welcomed and not trodden into the ground time and time again. The amount of abuse and bad comments towards some posters makes me cringe and I certainly hope that those that do these posts do not have a bigger issue to deal with like a bullying claim or possible suicide of the receiver as has happened on facebook and elsewhere and to a personal friend of mine. Be nice and respectful. You may feel better for it!

  6. I love how posters put out rumours and get smashed by others for doing so. That's what this thread is for isn't it?

  8. I just find this great. Of all the rumours flying about. None has come out of the MFC. At long last our leaks have been fixed. The only thing we will get out of the club is announcements.

  9. I usually have you on ignore (what a great little feature of 'land), however I think you need to read again the two sentences you wrote above. Firstly because you spam threads over and over without adding anything meaningful (eg, GF day), and second because you persist with little pieces of information that are either already common knowledge or untrue. Respect is earned. Please try reading more and posting only when it really adds. This is the internet, if you think 'land is disrespectful, you may wish to avoid the other footy forum sites. 'Land is generally well behaved and certainly well moderated. Finally, if you are feeling depressed, consider contacting Beyond Blue ph 1300224636 or lifeline ph 131114. I am serious.

  10. I think we can officially confirm that Tom Rockliff was on a plane. Logic would therefore dictate we have signed him up for 5 years.

  15. Love it. Rawlings is heading to Brisbane with a folder that has a Melbourne logo on it and we cream our pants. This time of the year never fails.

  18. some nice players should be squeezed out of Sydney now Luke Parker anyone?

  19. GWS aren't getting screwed. They now have a couple of million dollars to use elsewhere and pick 1 to use on Boyd. I'd say that's a better position than if they had scored Buddy on that money.

  20. The only positive here is GWS getting screwed. Hahaha suck on it!

  21. How the hell can this be allowed? We can't get a PP but Sydney get enough cap allowance to nab two high profile forwards in the space of two years. What a joke this competition is!

  22. The competition is rapidly becoming two tier. IMO, never before has there been such a divide between the haves and have nots. There are at least 4 teams that may never win a Premiership in my lifetime. Eventually, people will become disenfranchised with the AFL and there will be big clubs and corporates. Worrying.

  23. If pick 2 remains on the table from the Dees, at some time during the trade period various clubs will bite, they have to. It is too good an option to dismiss because "no-one wants to go the Melbourne". With Mahoney stating that pick 2 remains an option but only in exchange for a select group of players, a club with some young gun midfielder who wants to leave will take a very big bite at this carrot on a stick. The "not wanting to come to Melbourne" factor is being fully negated by the "I want to be coached by Paul Roos" factor. Based on the reliable foundations of rumour and innuendo, I see the following: Pick 2 getting us a young gun midfielder like Swallow, Sloane or the like. Pick 20 a talented draftee. Picks 36 and 54 being attached to players like Tapscott, Blease, or Strauss to target players like Greenwood from NM, Myers from Essendon, Later draft picks being used to gain Jolly and/or Cross.

  24. Mahoney's reconfirmation that pick 2 is on the table tells me that our efforts of attracting any decent FA's is SFA. Furthermore, our abilty to trade with other clubs on a 'needs basis' is limited due to our ordinary list. As much as it pains me to say it, Sylvia is a must keep if we're at this point already. Chapman will add something if he comes across but he's into his 30's now and struggled with injury this year. Other FA's that have not had the success like Chapman will be looking for a club challenging for a top 4 spot, not a cellar dwellar. We' are ugly and nobody wants to dance with us. Ed: Daniel Cross will be a great inclusion and I hope we have him convinced.

  25. Equalisation is a myth. Free agency is biassed towards the clubs in the premiership window and or with cash to splash. The GC and GWS pick and AFL support tilts the playing field further. Clubs like Sydney, Collingwood, Hawthorn and Geelong can just top up year on year with the better players from the bottom half of the ladder leaving for a crack at the premiership. Trips to the US are just used for the powerful clubs to get into the ear of the AFL not to effect any real change.

  26. I'm not sure how Franklin can refuse when "there are a host of reasons that could win over Franklin. Franklin’s close mate, Wallaby Kurtley Beale, has returned to Sydney to play Super Rugby for the Waratahs, who train at Allianz Stadium, next door to the SCG...".

  28. The thing is..... Demonland is a community. An online community, but a community non the less. If someone in my workplace or group of friends acts like a fool or spouts rubbish to big note themselves, I will pull them up on it. I will not give them any respect. If you find yourself the target of multiple users disrespect, maybe ask your self what you are doing/done to earn this disrespect. The great thing with an online community is that you can simply delete your account or change your name. Or even better, stop being a tool.

  40. I cant see it as anything but a win for Richmond 1/ firstly and most importantly they best know the nature of the beast they are dealing with. He is already in their enviroment so they are best placed to manage him (IMO) 2/ they paid under the first offer for him 3/ they only gave him two years which means an inexpensive out if it all goes pear shaped. The scathing condemnation should go to his manager.

  42. It's not Watters fault, it's Ross Lyons. St Kilda should've off loaded Kosi, Dal Santo, Montagna after 2010 or 2011. Now they are looking to off loaded them and getting nothing for them. They can't even use the old one player one club excuse now. Ross Lyon is a great game day coach, but his list management leaves little to be desired.

  43. Gees this thread is long on opinion and low on actual rumours. Heaps of rumours swirling around today none of which seem to have appeared here. 1. Trade period doesn't start until Friday. Not a rumour. 2. Roos wants mids and a running defender. 3. Interest from Dees in Levi Greenwood 4. Pick 2 if not traded for Sloane which the club is still bullish on it will be traded for a group of second tier mids perhaps with sweatners. 5. Colin Sylvia all but ready to resign. 6. Roos wants players that can kick straight. Might spell trouble for Bail but Nicho will be a tagger next year. 7. Expect surprises... 8. Daisy still will be a blue.

  45. A big thank you to all those who contributed to Demonland during the past season and also to everyone who posts here and even to those who visit but don't post. We value your contributions and ongoing support - especially to Nasher who keeps us going on the technichal side, our moderators whose task is often thankless - especially so when we go through a season such as the last few we've experienced. Particular thanks to our regular contributors, Whispering Jack, George on The Outer, The Oracle, JVM and KC from Casey. With the exception of KC they've often had to report on games and subjects that have been difficult to write about in 2013 but I reckon the coming ones will be more uplifting and exciting stories than those gone by in recent times. As always, we're hoping for a bigger and better season in 2014 and are always looking out for new contributors who have something to say about the mighty Demons. If you want to contribute an article feel free to contact me via PM. Cheers & thanks again.

  46. Shaw is not worth a top ten pick. Pies are keen to offload him, frees up cap space and removes what they consider to be a distraction. Clubs should play hardball with them. If pick 2 goes to the pies it's only because Beams is coming to us.
