Regardless of everything that's going on and people's opinions on Watts, this sort of thing makes me proud of our club. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/national/tough-little-demon-and-his-miracle-dad/story-fnii5yv7-122670829712012 points

I've spent Nev's whole career wanting more than anything for him to light up. As an MFC supporter, to have a kid who works really hard, is tough as nails turn and made entirely of the right stuff turn out to be no good just seems cruel, but alas, that's what we've got with him sadly.6 points

So now we've got 1.5, 1.6 and 2. that leaves a few spots left for Ralphy and Robbo to get on board and I'm sure Hutchy will have his own figure.6 points

Against all reason, I still harbor an irrational man-love for Neville Jetta. Here's hoping he kicks 10 goals and has 50 possessions today. That way, he might just stay on our list next year.6 points

Nice radio interview with Jack Trengove now. Interviewer mentioned that people talked about a different captain next year. Jack said he was all about the team and would be happy playing as non-captain next year. He seemed genuine, comfortable and a good guy.5 points

And you post a load of negative rubbish. I seem to remember you calling me a [censored] for suggesting Roos was coming. Well, what do you know? I find it staggering that some people couldn't read between the lines of Roos' continued stance of "yet". They only saw "not interested". Year 11 media basics. Manipulative journalism. Quotes can be misrepresented and used to paint whatever the flavour story is. The media hedged their bets with a stance that Roos was not coming. Now they're hedging with the obvious. Roos was signed weeks ago. It's not about Roos [censored]-teasing us. The club didn't want the dead-duck predicament with Craig. Now with the season practically over, Roos claims he's 50-50. I wouldn't be surprised if they wait to announce Roos. Once we have our new assistants signed and sealed, they'll roll them all out.5 points

I cant wait to see what Roos does with this list - what he keeps, what he trades for and with whom. Honestly its like xmas!5 points

Ricky Jackson, Lively as always Warren Dean. ah what could have been, a rare talent Sean Wight, Brilliant game in defense! SEPTEMBER ACTION ... OR ANOTHER SORRY EFFORT? by George on the Outer If you knew at the start of the season, that the Demons were bound for September action, then everyone would have been getting just a little excited. But when you then found out that: * we could only manage a lousy pair of wins for the season and * the September action involved playing the 4th worst team in the competition at 4.40 on a Sunday evening after every other game had finished, and * the off-field dramas continued to get even worse than 2012 then perhaps even more of us would have booked ski-holidays at the start of the year ( but the snow quality this year was about as good as the Demons!) Someone has got it in for us. Are we jinxed? Is the curse of the Red Fox real? It sure feels that way, but until players start performing and putting in the efforts that Norm Smith demanded from his protégés, then we will continue to put in sorry performances like the supporters witnessed again in the final match. Nine goals straight were recorded by the Dogs in the second quarter, and that was after we had scored the first. Familiar? We the fans have been watching that sort of performance all year. Players thinking that they have done enough in one quarter of football While some again might be excited by the fact that Jack Watts kicked four goals, it would really be something if he actually got the ball himself. He wont have Aaron Davey to drill it down his throat next year, and blind umpires wont hand out blatantly wrong free kicks to bolster his ego. Seven possessions for the day is simply not good enough! Col Sylvia has been promising to deliver and continuing to not do so, for ten seasons now. His lack of effort and willingness to do the team things was in sharp contrast to the gutsy performances from Luke Dalhouse, Adam Cooney, Matthew Boyd, Robert Murphy and Daniel Cross. They just keep on giving and Col keeps on promising. And four of those five have been around just as long ! What a sorry state we will see ourselves without Davey next year. His exquisite skills with the ball over many years has been an absolute delight to the Demon fans. And in his final match he gave us plenty of glimpses of those highlights again. It is a true indictment on the rest of the team that the veteran was probably our B.O.G for the day. He gave his all during his career and didnt stop until he could do no more. We will miss him ... thanks for the memories Flash! For the Demon fans, the relief that Season 2013 is over was palpable. What a sad state of affairs, that this once great Club is glad to see the season over! Another re-build coming, with another 8-10 players to dropped from the list. The Demonland scribes can easily put together a list of players who wont be around next year, and the final number is probably closer to the double digit number. We simply have too many players who are not of AFL standard, and an equal number of lazy, contented spectators. The Bulldogs lack a lot of things in their side, but G & D isnt one of them. They have given their supporters some hope for 2014, especially with their performances in the latter half of the Season. The Melbourne supporters in contrast, have got nothing from the players and are pinning their hopes on a new coach, president, board, CEO ... But can any of them kick a football? Give it a rest PF.. Sooking and whinging about it aint going to change the decision. Toumpas 2nd half of the year has been a big positive for me. especially under NG. If Roos coach expect him to develop properly. Instead of being a Muppet and pot shotting the kid how about you support him and wait till he has 50 games under his belt. Its obvious you haven't been watching him play much this year at all.3 points

Last time this year and the big question is whether the news of the possible appointment of Paul Roos will have an effect in the mindset of the players and turn what would otherwise be a non event into a game worth attending. Also - good luck to Flash on a great career somewhat diminished by injury in the latter years.3 points

I have a funny feeling the boys are really going to come to play today, hoping we get over the line for flash, D-rod and Joel mac, but mostly i hope this meeting with Roos and so on has given the boys some hope and confidence things are well and truely on the right path! bring on the new dawn of the MFC3 points

If you haven't red this I think you need to especially in light of the Real possibility now that Roos will coach Melbourne Next year It reads like his Blueprint and also what he believes he can and cannot deliver "Demons fans will want to know immediately how soon the club’s on-field fortunes can change." This is where the challenge begins for the new coach. Unfortunately, for Demons fans, I would suggest the new coach won’t be able to provide a satisfactory answer at his first press conference. Most of the list will need to be closely looked at by before he can make an assessment of how quickly things can turn around. The biggest question on everyone’s lips is: is Melbourne’s on-field performance a reflection of poor recruiting or poor development? If you dissect the list there are clearly some strengths and weaknesses. The Demons look to have three good tall defenders in James Frawley, Colin Garland and Tom McDonald. As we know, defence wins premierships and there are many teams who would love to start with these three players. Equally, the forward line could consist of Mitch Clark, Chris Dawes and Jesse Hogan. Certainly, at their best, these three would trouble opposition defenders. We know what Clark and Dawes can deliver and, by all accounts, young Hogan is destined to be a star. The midfield is clearly a major concern. At the moment you have probably Nathan Jones as the only midfielder who would walk into most sides. As important as it is to have great defenders to stop the opposition scoring, the main defensive and offensive weapon is a hard running deep midfield. Your mids will create defensive pressure and dictate how many opportunities Clark, Dawes and Hogan will get. However, it is not all doom and gloom because the current list has three potential stars. Jack Trengrove was a star leading up to the draft and I still fully believe he could become a genuine elite midfielder. Jack Viney and Jimmy Toumpas are highly rated kids and have already shown glimpses of what they could be in the future. Sam Blease is another. Has he been underdeveloped or is he not up to AFL level? You would love to give him the opportunity to play multiple games in a row and find out. If the Dees were to be granted a priority pick they could address their midfield weaknesses quickly. That being the case I would look to trade either Pick 1 or 3 for the best midfielders available. There are many talented players on the list who have not reached their potential. In no particular order they are Colin Sylvia, Jack Grimes, Aaron Davey, Mark Jamar and Luke Tapscott. Over the past two seasons we have also seen some very good games from Max Gawn, Jack Fitzpatrick, Dean Terlich and the very exciting Jeremy Howe … and then there is former No.1 draft pick Jack Watts. I was there the day Jack played his first game. I have never seen a fanfare like it and is it any wonder he has never lived up to that hype? "It was one of the biggest mistakes I have ever seen from a football club in handling a young football player." ( I have always said this and I couldn't agree more ) Make no mistake, the Demons need to keep hold of Watts because he is incredibly talented and still could be a star. He needs a coach that will find a position for him, play him in that position and teach him what it takes to be a genuine AFL player. We must also remember that even premiership teams have players that are not stars but play a role and play it well. I’m sure those players exist at Melbourne. Clearly some smart trading and drafting is needed, but if the Demons get everything right they could have a competitive team next year. http://www.thefordhamcompany.com.au/paul-roos-herald-sun-column-22/ "From ROOS Mouth to GODS Ears" Yes I am beginning to feel the old passion beginning to stir and I'm a Old Dee Supporter and that is Exciting believe me "GO DEES "3 points

"Now Stuie, because I have a serious "man crush" on you I'll thicken the plot further. Two weeks ago I was told by a 40 year member of the MFC that Roos as coach was a "done deal''. The source is a sensible level headed bloke who has been reliable in the past. Make of it what you will but, for the moment, just keep it between us." The above quote is post 2739 on the Paul Roos ... thread. You continually disappoint me Stuie. I have taken you under my wing (despite Biffen's naysaying) and tried to educate and improve you. You must simply try harder or I shall be forced to abandon you.3 points
