  1. Should have been the "Gillette" Delistings, either it's a close shave or you get cut.

  2. Great. We give up the player we took at 11, who everyone agrees has talent and is still young, for a 25 year old VFL player who can't get into North's side and wasn't even good enough to be drafted as an 18 year old. What do we put as Sellar's value, given he played most of the games this year, is taller and was quite handy for us in a number of positions. To me Pederson is about pick 50, similar to Sellar who went at 54 despite being a top 10 pick as a junior. Gysberts would have to be somewhere between 15 and 30 given he is contracted and has tons of upside.

  4. Nah, they'd be better off buying a brothel. Sound investment, they do as well in bad times as good, our supporters are used to staring at a bunch of [censored], and Wattsy could work their part-time as the towel boy.

  8. Hi All, Here is some info that may be news to some and common dog to others. But I'll share it anyway as I fly out to work tomorrow. Dont shoot the messenger. This is what I've heard first hand from people in command. The horses mouth. 1. Neelds first & foremost priority is to replace Tom Scully before anything else. The club see's Tom as a loss and are targetting a player with similar traits (on field). While Toms disposal efficiency wasnt the greatest he was quick, broke the lines & was professional. The club is actively seeking players for eg: David Mackay from Adelaide who has good skills, quick and works hard defensively. I have copped criticism for bringing up disposal efficiency in the past with posters saying it isnt relevant, well the club certainly is taking this stat seriously. What picks they will use or how they go about it I'm not sure but we did lose a #1 draft pick. 2. The club is very keen to get another power forward onboard. Whether this is through free agency, trade or draft I'm unsure but they are certainly active. A name that keeps popping up is Jesse Hogan in the U17 mini-draft. I'd say if we cant get an experienced KPF then this will be an option for the club. 3. After the above two I hear that we are keen to get 3 quality mids with the club hoping to bring 1-2 experienced heads & one being Jack Viney providing we pick him up as a second rounder. The problem being that the pickings for quality experienced mids in their mid 20's are slim pickings now. May need to rely on the draft. 4. Club is hoping for 2 free agents - but it looks like slim pickings now. This is the concerning thing for me & the club is its ok to delist the deadwood so long as you replace with better players. A lot of top draft picks and players OOC will hold no currency at trade time - thats scary. After TS replacement, KPF, 3 mids - I have no idea what the clubs intentions are, I'll leave that for you guys to discuss. Obviously I can't reel off names etc that havent been mentioned and have to be careful the way I present things but what I can say is the club is very active & have been for months & are leaving no stone unturned. Expect a few suprises if all goes well but also get worried about replacements if it doesnt pan out, the club may have no option but to rewind the clock and rebuild with kids again. The major concern is that the MFC is not attractive to players at the moment. I look forward to October but one part of me is very nervous at who we can attract/draft. We will NOT draft skinny kids, we will be after players who are ready to go Round 1, 2013 - The club knows its running out of time to keep members on side. Curve balls that I'd keep an eye on: (These are not the views of the club but my own, chinese whispers) Stef Martin to be traded. Jai Sheahan to be upgraded as a KPF prospect. Clint Bartram/Aaron Davey to retire. Jared Rivers to chase success. Royal out, Ratten in. Bruce & Junior offered a mentoring role off field. Players brought in from Adelaide, WA & Brisbane. Anyway all the best this week, I fly back to work tomorrow, dont stress out too much - its only a game remember!! PS: I dont intend to be the worlds best speller or have elite punctuation, all I do is get it in text well enough for you to read! I dont work in an office.

  9. The Sydney/Moneyball approach is pretty popular right now but I struggle to understand the comparison with Melbourne. When people suggest we follow the Sydney model they rarely mention that Sydney has always had some genuine stars - Lockett, Kelly, O'Loughlin, Hall, O'Keefe and Goodes over the past decade. We haven't had a single player better than any of these six during that time. You could perhaps argue Neitz over O'Keefe or O'Loughlin but in terms of their position, they were elite. Having 2 - 3 genuine stars of the competition is the foundation upon which premierships are built. Most of the current stars of the game come from the top end of the draft. Of the newcomers this year to the All-Australian team, four were father/sons (Hawkins, Dempster, Kennedy and Watson). Hawkins in particular was billed as a potential number 1 draft pick. Nine of the remaining eleven (Dangerfield, Thompson, Naitanui, Rioli, Waters, McPharlin, Birchall, Cotchin and Deledio( were all first round selections. Of the remaining newcomers, Beams and Richards were second rounders. It is essential that we continue to trust the first round of the National Draft until we find the 2 - 3 stars that we crave. Obviously there is a role for recycled players and the All-Australian team with Richards, Dempster and Kennedy confirms that but history shows that these players can be obtained outside of the top 20. Kennedy and McGlynn were gained by giving up picks 39, 46 and 70. Richards was a little more expensive costing pick 19 and 50.The Saints got Schneider and Dempster with pick 26. Talk of giving up our first three picks worries me. We've been burnt over the past decade but we've got to keep going to the well until we find our next Robbie Flower. If we nab Viney in the second round and secure 3 very very good players in the first round and find a Jeremy Howe-like rough diamond later in the draft we'll be well on the way. A Josh Kennedy trade would be pretty handy just about now as would a Michael Barlow style mature age recruit. Let's hope the end of 2012 will be talked about in the future as the year we put together the magnificent 7. If we have any less than 7 new players in our team over the first half of next year, I'll be disappointed.

  11. If they get pick #9 from Carlton maybe a #pick 2 + #pick 9 + Toy from GC for a #pick 3 and #pick 4 would be worthwhile. Would secure us Toy, #2(Toumpas), #9 (Wines), #13 (Stringer, Garlett, Kennedy, Simpson) and Viney 2nd round Would secure GC Tippett + Pick 4 (O'Rourke) Would secure Adelaide Grundy

  12. I think we should all be thankful for Brett Lovett's contribution at Casey both the the Melbourne Football Club and to the Casey Scorpions. I was sceptical about Casey's finals chances at the beginning of the year but to get the team to the top of the tree at the end of the home and away season was a magificent achievement without any big name VFL recruits and limited numbers of AFL players. This was particularly frustrating when the finals came around but that's the nature of alignments these days. Those suggesting that the MFC goes it alone and ditches the alignment with Casey are entitled to their views but I wonder how the team would have fared a couple of weeks ago with only six players available. Sure, they would have used supplementary players but what's the difference between that and establishing yourself in a fast growing community like the Casey/Cardinia corridor?

  18. Why ? What are you expecting next season ? Do you think Adelaide supporters are now concerned that they waited a year to see Dangerfield play ? If we're holding up the cup in 2017 with Hogan dominating I doubt you'll be too concerned that Hogan played at Casey for a year in 2013.

  19. Becoming "stand alone" wont fix that. The problem is MFC haven't been playing finals for years and that's what keeps AFL players in VFL games this late in the season.

  20. I have a 2 1/2 year old and a 10 month old so it's a bit early to tell, but they've both had memberships from day one. They both have guernseys, though my son's is now too small so once I know Jack Viney's number I'll get him a new one this summer with Jack's number on the back. Most of my close friends and family are Melbourne supporters so there won't be any treachery from within the inner circle. If they want to go to games, they'll follow Melbourne.

  21. A an absolute stalwart in defence for the Dees, who got everything out of himself as a player, and it seems that as a coach he was able to get the very best out of his players. Did a fantastic job with Casey, particularly given that he only coached on a part-time basis. I'm sorry to see him go, but I greatly admire him for his decision and the reasons behind it.

  24. The guy will be 26 before next season starts, has played 16 career games, and can't get a game in a middle of the road side behind such luminaries as Robbie Tarrant. Why would anyone think this would be a good deal, particularly as compensation for Gysberts or Martin, both of whom should be clearly inside our best 22 next year?

  29. If nicho had a better kick we would all be jizzing. there is still time and another strong preseason will set him up to really make a mark. Love any player who is putting in the yards while "on holiday", also not surprised Nicho is running the tan/ running at all, is not just fast but has super endurance. Probably runs for fun this bloke.

  30. We cant just point at Bailey.....its handy to do so, but we just didnt spend enough money on the football department when he was around. Whether through necessity or stupidity we'll never know now..but we didnt have enough experience in our fitness coaching ranks and Its bitten us on the arse big time. We fell, what looks now like a massive step behind, so lets hope with the increase of experience and personnel we've turned it around.

  32. I had lunch at the 'Wick last monday with an old workmate. There was nobody in there for a start! There was 1 person playing the pokies & a few pensioners enjoying the cheap lunch. DL seems to be obsessed with this block of land... I live 5 minutes from it. There is no parking & nobody inside. The Club would be better to hire it out once a week. Because the other 6 days would be a disaster. Let us all remember how much the Filth lost on their Hotel venture.

  33. They should put Dunn on a 6 weekly contract extension. He seems to manage to string together half a dozen serviceable games at the end of each contract with not much in between. This would maximise his effectiveness.

  35. I'd say yes it is. I'm attached and emotionally invested in supporting the MFC, the AFL as a whole has started to lose me, for many little reasons my love for the game isn't what it once was. I want to see the MFC succeed, I've come too far to ever give up just because some ningnongs come along and stuff us up more than we've already been stuffed up. There's always a chance we'll get it together and win that flag, and that's what this 30 years and counting of supporting this club has been and will continue to be about. As long as we're here my support is unconditional. However if the AFL chose to put a bullet in the MFC's head I'd be out of my misery.

  36. I don't understand the people who wonder about forcing their kids to support the Demons! My fiancé is a Geelong supporter and I have made it clear that our kids will barrack for the Demons no matter how many flags the Cats win. She doesn't go to games, I do and I'll be takin the kids along with me and the rest of my family. We don't have enough supporters as it is and you wonder about recruiting your kids in no wonder we have an aging membership - I know that this is not an issue in Collingwood or Carlton households. Just remember the crap years won't last forever and the good times will come again even though it seems a million miles away at the moment. Supporting the MFC builds character which is a lot more than can be said for those born into or bandwagoning on clubs like Essendon or Hawthorn.

  37. Considering that 5 years ago i had 0 interest in footy The Melbourne Demons are an organisation that i have developed a strong passion for.Yeah it hurts listening to the [censored] people throw at this club but at the same time every dig, every cheap shot, every snide remark by people like Paul Roos makes me love this club even more.At least this club has heritage and tradition unlike an artificial club like the Meth Coast Eagles with their artificial theme song and their fans with their foam hands and their flying high since 1987 signs. Why would anyone stop supporting this club?Jim gave his all for this club while he was dying from cancer and some of you are thinking about walking out on a cause that Jim died for. There's no guarantee of success in sport. You suck it up take the blows and just really appreciate the periods of success when they come and come they will.At least the clubs debt is cleared and we now have the training facilities to compete with the best. The playing squad is bit of a mess but let's give Neeld a fair chance to put it right.Mind you i do have a second favourite team but that team is The Western Bulldogs and it looks like they will be down for the next few years.I just love the doggies theme song and unlike the poor doggies at least we have won more than 1 flag. It's kind of sad really that clubs like Meth Coast have won flags in recent times while Footscray have been waiting since 1954 and we have been waiting since 1964.

I wrote that to give Dees supporters some insightful information, not for you to pick holes in. I guess at the end of day the new FD will do what they think is best for the MFC, and I back them to make the right decisions. Time to step out of the comfort zone and start winning games of football.

Just as an aside given they played in that kiddies development league or whatever it was for a year before coming to play in the big boys sandpit, then those drafted in '10 are up for grabs ? if OOC ...correct ? So the Toiges are hunting... good on them,. Shove it up Sheeds and his cronies. Boot, other foot huh Kev ?? lol

  45. What I think escapes many is that Dunn is being applauded for doing the minimum. He's training. Wow. In the second half of the year, he lifted himself beyond being a joke to being mediocre. Again, wow. I just can't believe how many people gloss over the time he's spent on this list getting to where he is now. It's not just about the last 4/6 games. It's about the prolonged time he's spent on our list going, essentially, nowhere, the fact that he has no real qualities except his kicking (and even that isn't as amazing as people are making it out to be) and that he just, overall, isn't that good. I'm not saying he's the worst on our list, and there are clearly many other candidates for delisting, but Dunn cannot be said to be anything other than a list-clogger who has had his chance and who simply isn't that good. People getting stuck into Bail, whether rightly or wrongly (wrongly, IMO, but that's a fair debate), should keep in mind he's had half the time on our list than Dunn has.
    1 point
  46. Agree on both counts. Dunn is as soft as anyone else on our list (except Morton, maybe). His 'aggression' is fake, all he does is strut around and push people, but when push comes to shove he is pathetic. When it matters, too (i.e. going for the ball) he shirks contests, ducks his head, and then tries to make up for it by remonstrating and pushing. The sooner we delist this list-clogging, space-wasting, finger-pointing has-been, the better. You'd be shocked and angry? That we delisted someone who's been on our list for about 7 years and has achieved nothing to date? Who hasn't improved at all in the last 4 years? Who pulls out semi-impressive (I use this phrase loosely) performances only when it's getting near the end of his current contract? You could be disappointed, but you would have no ground to be shocked, and you'd be silly to be angry.
