Funnily enough, the last time we finished a round inside the top 4 was actually in one of those nightmare seasons - Round 11, 2024. Indeed, we were in the top 4 for 7 out of 10 weeks from Rounds 2-11 that year.

Fell out in Round 12 when we were annihilated by Fremantle in Alice Springs and spent just one more week in the top 8, let alone top 4, until this year.

We were still pretty good for the first few months of 2024. Round 11's Bailey Fritsch dribbler from the boundary vs Geelong was the end of the 2021 era in my mind. Everything afterwards was spinning wheels until Goodwin, Petracca, Oliver left and King came on board.

very good crowd

I was disappointed with the crowd. I might be wrong, but I believe it's the first time the ANZAC Day Eve game has had less than 70k...

Checkers set shot from 50 on the boundary was elite. He did it a couple of weeks ago as well ( vs suns?). Noboby else I’d rather have holding the ball

And against us last year. From the same pocket.

Given where the tigs are in 2026, I still think they turn up in good numbers

pretty sure that was round 8. We were 6-2 after that and all eyes were on another crack at a flag. amazing how much has gone down since then … from presidents to coaches to players. I think we’re now out of that death spiral …thank god!

Yes, it was a huge banner to erect.

It seemed a like a very stiff banner too

So apparently pickett came back Wednesday to the club. It's good that king has that faith in him to be able to do that & come back all good.

Heard steele on the radio yesterday & he said how it was nice to have an ANZAC day off & he was going to have a beer & play some two up. The 3aw team were a bit surprised & were like ok. I mean if it was Oliver that said it, you'd think is that a good idea, but I think Jack knows how to be sensible

Crucially, I suspect when Steele says 'have a beer' he means have 'a' beer. Not like a 'gonna have a beer with the boys on saturday arvo' version of 'have a beer'.

I got on Kozzie at $101, never saw him at $150.

I managed to get him early at the $150. Couldn’t believe he was at that sort of price. I see he’s $21 now.

I usually watch the mini replay on fox, but because it was an ordinary game & only got going in the final quarter I just watched the goal off the Melbourne website.

But what I did notice was the impact Jefferson had and he took a few nice marks & set some goals up

Kozzi is becoming one of the greats in front of our eyes

Who would have thought he’d have the tank and determination to match his speed and skill? He is so quick over the first 5 metres players don’t even try to tackle him, just corrall

We are all privileged to watch him

Could he outdo his Uncle Byron? Well on track - his work in traffic is superb.

Steele probably keeps his nose clean, if you know what I mean.

When he has the Norm around his neck I will agree.

byron should have been close to a 250+ game player if not for a litany of suspensions, both for on- and off-field reasons

as it was he played over 200 and won 2 premierships, including a norm smith

he played in all three zones and excelled in them all

kozi is a superstar, but byron was a terrific player for a long time too

You’ve got to enjoy the journey, not just the destination.

No, Kolt. Just… no. This isn’t Farmer Wants A Wife

Same goes for you, Trelly. Unless you’ve got a house-painting side gig.

Hi Ghosty, I have just watched the replay of the prematch ceremony. Always really bust around this game so rarely get to see it live uninterupted. Could I please ask, with the joint banner, did both cheersquads get together to make it or was it just Richmond?

Sunday Age article by Sam McClure ... "forcing Melbourne into a grind that was far removed from the free-flowing style that dismantled Gold Coast* a week earlier."

Hmm, he's obviously a fool. But aren't articles supposed to be checked?

*It was Brisbane

My avatar for this sight is owed to Byron Pickett. A very hard man. I loved him. If you play against Byron you might go crashing into the fence. Hence Picket Fence!

Both cheer squads make it together but depending on whose home game it is, only one cheer squad designs it. This year being that it was Richmond’s home game they designed it and we helped make it at Punt Rd. Next year we’ll design it and they’ll come to ours to help make it.

Rest assured though, when we design it, you’ll not see a giant D & balls.

Yeah Picket I loved Byron too. Carey and Byron in Pagan’s Paddock was sheer entertainment. Byron bumped harder than anyone and was fearless and struck like lightning.

Thanks for sharing insight on your name. I apologise for thinking it might have been to do with being a bit spiky and divisive at times.

Cheers

Yeah could be a bit of that as well.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demons’ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.

  • REPORT: Richmond

It seemed as if the whole purpose of the Anzac Eve clash at the MCG between the Demons and the Tigers was building toward that single, unforgettable moment when Kozzie Pickett soared above Campbell Gray and all but fittingly etched his name onto the face of the 2026 Frank ‘Checker’ Hughes Medal.
