Thankfully we have the bombers this week

We need some percentage if we are make top 6

Percentage means nothing when you finish 22-1

Very important to play Rivers here.

Two weeks for the knee to settle is nice and an obvious reason he didn’t play at Casey.

I’ve heard the inflammation has come right down.

He’s a talent who has been loyal and he deserves to slot back in for Laurie.

This 100%

Cannot believe those saying he's on his way out?!

Also, Melk playing 250 against the Jabbers is classic

Who is saying it? They know nothing.

Couldn’t be further from the truth.

His had a knee complaint since just after Christmas that he wanted to manage whilst training/ playing. The club supported him with this.

It came to the point in the Freo game where he wasn’t able to run at high speed over distance (a key metric for King) during our transitions.

The club have a plan in place which involves him de-loading to manage the inflammation around the knee. Trent is fine with the plan. If the knee is still settled after 2 x training sessions this week, he will come back in.

Why the 'omission' rather than naming him out injured?

Quite bizarre

Petty is a crucial utility for the team, who fights hard and can clunk important marks like he did yesterday. He stays in for the foreseeable future in my opinion.

Kentfield could do a better job.

Oh, that is tantalising. Would be great for him to kick a bag, but otherwise, we really need to make sure we get the win done for him.

I have a mate who goes for the Jabbers, who when they traded him claimed that Melksham was 'just a player' and nothing much. I'd say he's the sort of player they would have loved to have had over the past 10 years. Be great to show them what they missed out on and really rub it in.

He was omitted but the injury played a part in him not being able to perform at the level

A bombers supporter friend said exactly the same thing

MFCSSS.

Dees beat up ladder leading Suns.

Then … we play the winless Bombers. These are the games that the Dees drop their guard and let all the media hype inflate them. King will need to keep the team focussed.

Bombers will get Ridley and Caddy back. Two of their best 6 players. They will not want to be that team that loses 18 straight and sets a club losing record. Scott might be sacked if we win well. Expect May and Guelfi to drop out. Tsatas might also replace Day-Wicks. They’ll be desperate. They’ll tag kozzzy likely with Caldwell.

I actually cant believe he has played more games for us than them. Seemed tos be at the bombers for ages!

Scroll back a few pages haha

A really different challenge this week. First game for the season where we’ll be favourites. How will we deal with the pressure of expectation? Being the hunted, not hunters?

It’s a big test IMO. All the gains of yesterday will be undone if we lose to Essendon.

Assuming Fritsch is unavailable

IN: Jeffo, Rivers***
OUT: McDonald, Laurie

***Pending proof of life

Can confirm Riv is alive. 😅

I ran into him before the game yesterday. He was with Paddy Cross and they were both pretty happy and relaxed.

Mozzing us much????!

Geez Louise, Dub! This is something we should NEVER EVER say.

If the worst possible outcome happens (they beat us) it’s YOUR FAULT!!!

I still remember the awful day when the bummers got their first win in the druggie year - they were a rabble of VFL and shoehorned older players and we let them beat us at the G. It was one of the worst performances that I had seen - we must not smell our own armpits and believe we are better than we are. We beat GCS, but so what? We are rabble if we let these flyblown losers get the better of us in Adelaide.

IN: Rivers, Kentfield, Fritsch

OUT: Howes, TMac, Laurie

Rivers plays howes role better than howes, settle him there if fit and he will have far more impact ball in hand

Can confirm my anonymous posts on a footy forum do not influence the future, so you are safe. 🙂

Also we will beat the bombers easily and I think we should rest Gawn and play Heath. Seriously

It’s difficult to have ins and outs discussions when both Riv and Fritta are a “week-to-week proposition.”

I seem to recall this sort of thing being said the past few times we have played EssUndone - that hasn’t gone so well has it?

No game is a gimmie, no game.

Think that at your peril.

I’m more worried about this game than I was against the Suns. Please Dees, do not lose to this mob 😭

Yep, in my opinion every game is a danger game for us. We need to respect every team that we play.

Having said that we should not fear anyone that we play, absolutely no one.

I must admit I thought he was the Ginsu knives of the Hibbered deal, for which I am sorry. I also think he has benefitted with some maturity. He is a lethal quick decision maker who has his body right and that makes up for being a tad slow on the defensive pressure he can apply.

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
