POSTGAME: Rd 01 vs St. Kilda

Very underrated game from Tholstrup today, went everywhere with Nas and really curbed his influence on the game. Yes he still kicked 3 but sometimes you just have to tip your hat to talent!

Gawn had only 12 minutes rest all game apparently. Against a bloke a decade younger

Legend is not high enough praise

91% time on ground.

Unheard of for a player in his position in today’s game.

Keep it to yourself. Let people support how they want and just enjoy the win.

What happens in the gameday thread stays in the gameday thread 😅

What a pity we aren't back at the G next week just to build on todays win

We're off to our 2nd home, unless it's in Joondalup?

Watched at a Saints supporting mate’s. Been treated to a terrific game of football either way.

StevenKing’s celebration 3 minutes to go!!!

I’m [censored] excited too!!!

Fritsch had some moments he'd like to have back (that play on and wild snap in the last was terrible), but still had 8 score involvements.

Didn't mind the role he played today.

Was pretty low key going into this one. Didn't expect to win but wanted to see us develop a style to take us forward. Its been a while since I lept out of the seat, the buzz is back and going to thw footy was fun again.

ngl, had tears in my eyes singing the song. Something felt absolutely monumental about that win and the celebrations were different. Like a weight has been lifted from our shoulders knowing this new era and gamestyle has truely begun. And seeing King up in the box jubilant was awesome. Harry [censored] Sharp

Amen, I really had no expectations that we'd win this one but we did and with flair and freedom.

Loved it. A heavy veil has been lifted from this playing group and club.

I really didn't think Sharpie was up to it but that last quarter was quite incredible.

At last. Roo has the space and delivery to show what he can do.

2 X Pickett's playing with freedom to take everyone on. Electric.

And then Max, 4 mins bench time for the whole last 3 qtrs.

He has the heart the size of phar lap.

We didn't freeze in the headlights in the last 5 minutes. How cool is that.

Go Dees

That was a fun day at the G. Good to see a fair bit of support.

I thought it was an interesting game because at times I felt like we actually didn’t just run and gun. Windsor seems to be one of the players that calls the tempo of the game. I lost count of how many times I saw him shaking his hands at players to tell them to slow it down. Even in the last Gawn went long down the line once and it resulted in a St Kilda goal (because Ross wanted them to slingshot), but then he did it again and Culley took a huge contested grab that resulted in a goal. I don’t think it’s purely as simple as a change in game plan, because at times the plan wasn’t purely different, but the personal certainly was. We have a real forward line with Roo, Checkers, Fritsch, Culley and the Picketts.

It’s exciting to see what comes next. It’s not always going to be perfect, but it will be informative of where we want to go, and I think the clubs better for a fresh start.

A lot of the better teams these days win without dominating stats. run and gun style you don’t need them

I agree, but you don't lose too many times with more scoring shots, winning the contested possessions and.... oh wait

Has anyone kicked a better first goal than Latrelle Pickett?

I cried

Taj woewodins was pretty nice

People owe Sharp an apology.....

Mihocek straightens us up.

Max is the greatest

And Roo - take a bow son. Great game

That win will instill a lot of confidence in the lads...

Kolt was so good defensively today. 8 scoring involvements to 6 and ran par on disposals and metres gained. He went head to head with “the best player in the afl” (he’s no Max) and walked away breaking even and dominated after quarter time. I hope this is the turning point for him. Trusted in the forward line, back line; and centre bounce. We don’t win without his efforts.

I'm so happy for the boys, this must feel like they've exorcised some demons after last year's loss.

If anyone says anyone else is the greatest ruckman of all time other than Max than they have rocks for brains. That is one of the most immense perfomances ever from a ruckman. dK had you take rests while Max the warrior stayed out there, and not only that he beat all comers. If he doesn't get the 3 Brownlow votes it's a bigger robbery than Nas.

But the most pleasing thing for me is the players who have been whipping boys contributing.

JvR kicking 5 in the first half is incredible, but what shouldn't be ignored is that he kept competing all day. It's set up for him to have a big year.

Petty looked right back at home in defence.

Sharp had a big say in the last quarter.

JC (who has somehow already become a whipping boy) was very good all day.

Kolt may have been beaten but he never gave up the fight and should've had a goal to his name to cap off good work.

I tipped the saints, I have no issue with getting that tip wrong.

Such a great win.

Yes, there are clearly weaknesses. But the bravery to stand up and defend in the fourth when we were clearly gassed was remarkable.

So much to like about how we move the ball.

King had a brilliant day - Tholstrup tagging, tick. Petty relief rucking, tick. Sharp held back to be relatively fresh late, tick.

30 scoring shots with Koz well held is a great sign.

We will get belted some weeks, but to all those who thought we were going to be pox this year, drop the pessimism and get around us. Buy a membership. Get to the games. Invest in this season. It is exciting.

Sharp…..didn’t honestly think it was possible….absolutely instrumental in today’s win.

Max Gawn 9AA coming up

It certainly looks like a part of the plan is to put a lot of fast players around the ball – and it definitely explains more bounces and tackles.

For nervousness brought on by fast tackling players also explains some of the bad kicking by the opposition.

There’s no substitute for speed.

Van rooyen became a proper footballer today. He's definitely put on muscle & I hope that form continues.

Loved our new recruits. Each contributed something.

Just happy for king coaching his first game.

And we should not hear how we missed 2 certain players today by the media

Career best game for Roo, absolutely love that for the young man!!

And as a tagger Kolt got it 17 times at 77% DE and set up a few goals

Restricting Nas to 18 possessions was quite noteworthy. 2 clangers each but the match contained 107 turnovers

Backed into a few packs today as well. I thought he played a fine game
