2026 Injury List

The good thing about an isolated MCL injury is that you can get back to straight line running relatively early in your rehab.

I had a grade 2 MCL injury a few years ago and they heal up well (good blood supply).

Being able to run is key for player's rehabbing in maintaining their aerobic base - given he's had a pretty solid preseason he should keep his fitness level up ok if he can be running say after a month

And he'll be able to do upper body work whilst in a boot, which as a key forward won't hurt.

Hopefully as part of his rehab they teach Luker how to get that knee up and angled right at anyone who dares come in to his space and can then land a bit safer too.

He was hit from behind. I don't think knees are meant to bend that way.

As I suggested mid season for him

4-6 weeks from now is round 2-4 give or take - mid season suggests a much more significant injury than what’s being reported

Agreed. However, even in this age the final decision is usually only made once a specialist or specialists have had the opportunity of examining the patient.

Just pure speculation

Scan.. initial assessment..

Possible referral to another specialist for corroborating (or otherwise) diagnosis.

Might need a secondary scan/assessment if not straight forward

Does 4-6 weeks = the first 4 weeks of the season? (2 weeks of pre season)

Breaking up his dogs fighting.

Unbelievable really.

Could miss round 1 🤦‍♂️

Think it’s a grade 2 MCL. Grade 1 is usually just a bit of rest and get back out there. Grade 3 is when they lean towards surgery to get it healed quicker.

But he’ll definitely need a period of rehab, usually at least equal to how long he’s off legs in a brace.

Maybe he can tick these steps off within a week each but with a big body young tall I’d suspect they’ll lean conservatively.

A question for those in the know

  • how much can one sustain aerobic fitness when one cannot run?

  • how much does, say, swimming maintain general fitness?

  • how soon can he maybe get on a stationary bike?

Is the 4-6 weeks including no running for a few, then regaining fitness, or is it 4-6 before getting into full training?

Awwww perfugg friggen get rid of those dogs How utterly MFC

Wow

Our forwards are cursed at the moment.

Lovely.. just lovely.

In fairness, might be very minor.

It’s not uncommon. Dogs and cats can insert significant germs which commonly turns to infection.

Hopefully it’s minor, and he’s back soon.

Hopefully he's only out this week would be a massive blow if he wasn't to play. We are running out of players maybe Sharp will replace him.

You’re a shot for a game at this rate, Werridee.

Fritta. You never put your hand into a dog fight. I think it’s common knowledge, but common knowledge isn’t always common.

I’ll add PF. My version of common knowledge, is you consistently like to see the negative and stick in the boots to our club.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.
