Adam Simpson, John Longmire, and Hayden Skipworth not interested at all! Nathan Buckley only having lukewarm interest. Why?! Are we that much of a basket case?!

Simpson who is happy with his Whopper franchises and staying in Perth, horse who is burnt out and 2 guys who did the interviews before being overlooked. That’s what has upset you?

Everyone in the afl says this is a serious coach. If he fails it’s more than likely because the club failed him, and no guarantee anyone else would’ve succeeded.

You can be angry at the club but don’t be angry at a perfectly good choice

I am still angry about this [censored] stupid decision appointing some 2nd rate dud who only ended up coach of the Demons because nobody else seemed interested enough! How [censored] embarrassing!

This is like Dean Bailey in 2007 or Mark Neeld in 2011 all over again!

By all means, continue to laugh it up at me. I don't give a flying [censored]. I am entitled to my opinion and I am allowed to disagree with others. We will see who is right in the long run! If I am wrong, I will happily eat my own words with chocolate sauce on them! But my gut tells me this has been a huge mistake!

Hopefully, at the very least, we appoint a senior assistant like Ken Hinkley or someone else to help support Steven King. Otherwise, he will be absolutely thrown in the deep end.

What a total laughing stock our Club is. I have been a Melbourne Demons member for over 26+ years and besides our Premiership in 2021, it's been nothing but disappointment and frustration!

Anyway, I am done. I am still far too angry at this stupid decision by the Melbourne Football Club. I am going to have a break for a long while until we get the [censored] homebase finally built at Caulfield Racecourse! If we can't do that the Club may as well [censored] fold!

I get it that you’re angry but I’m guessing this is where you’ll lose most people, even the few who might agree with the rest of your post.

When asked his views on the Melbourne playing list, Steven King stated that he believes Salem has a lot to offer, Langford is a shining example for all new recruits and he hopes that McDonald, despite what the Tommy knockers would like to think, will play on in 2026. He also hopes that Green will go the extra mile to take his place in the stand and watch the team go round at the MCG, or will walk the long mile to sit under the dome at Marvel Stadium when necessary. In summing up he said, rather than dwell on past misery, let’s prepare for a Demons revival!

Sanderson was at Geelong when he got the Adelaide gig, Neeld at Collingwood when he got ours. Both left immediately even though their clubs were still in finals.

No one will miss you carrying on so unthinkably stupid as you are.

This has been a well conducted process ( much quicker than We all thought) by a somewhat varied but independent group of people who have reached a very strong verdict as to who is the best candidate to take us forward.

It’s no good going off your lollie about who was not available no matter why or how this happened. You would be whinging in 3 weeks time if we were going through trade and draft period without a coach having his say. So please stop feigning outrage and indignation.

The overall result has been universally recognised and received as a progressive and astute decision based on Kings standing and record in the AFL over nearly 30 years.

All the best in your next job sounds like the leader of one of the less successful parties in Australian politics in Vic or Nationally would suit you.

Good luck El Supremo.

Back this view 100% time for ALL to get onboard! When can I buy my 2026 membership??

On what do you base your “dud” description? The guy is, like all first time coaches, an unknown quantity, but this unknown quantity impressed a highly credentialed panel that he was the right person for the job! Would you have said the same thing about Sam Mitchell?

Sorry, but your rants are laughable… probably is best you take a break; no game is worth getting that worked up about..

I think we are keeping Jones, Bassett and Chappy as assistants.

If true about the former two, then King is starting with a hand tied behind his back. Not nice, especially to Jonesy, but let's face facts. He is an untried coach walking into a team that has lost its identity. He needs to be supported by stronger and better credentialed coaches than Jones or Bassett. There is surely room for NJ to stay in some capacity, given he was sharing duties with Radford anyway. Bassett is a Goody man and our defence was appalling despite still having great depth.

  • Welcome to Demonland: Steven King

The Melbourne Football Club has selected a new coach for the 2026 season appointing Geelong Football Club assistant coach Steven King to the head role.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
