Missed out on selection in Carlton's final game of the year, which means he wonโ€™t hit the automatic trigger for an extra year at the Blues.

Carlton can still offer him a new deal but is this one we should potentially look at?

Mature body and can be played at either end of the ground. Tmac is no certainty to go around again next season and May's powers are dwindling. I've never been a huge fan but he could be a handy in-between while the likes of JVR, Jeffo and Adams continue to learn their craft.

I love all the NO memes, if that is what they are, but lets see, he is an upgrade on Billings, Fullarton, AJ, Campbell, and many others running around in the 2's.

He is sure no more than a depth upgrade and wouldn't get a game in front of May, Lever and Turner, or probably even TMac, but if every other club is shaking their heads like all your memes then he might be money-ball. He averages 1 good game in 5 and is perennially injured so he would have to come cheap. That is where another club might offer slightly overs coz they need tall backs, maybe even Dogs, but if he's falling cheap then I think as I say he is an upgrade in depth.

look at where our list is at, we're not in the 32yo injury prone wont get a game ahead of xyz camp at the moment, especially when 3 of the 4 you've listed as not getting ahead of have been linked to exits themselves as theyre performing below expectation

Compelling reasons to pick him up. On the positive side, he'll be 32 next year. Pass.

We have enough backman. Other areas need more focus

Whatwhatsaywhat, I appreciate the exemplary restraint and civility you have brought to Demonland there.

Nietaphart, surely you mean we have enough -old- backmen.

Anyway, McGovern has performed to AFL standard sometimes. I think we're just about all agreed that is not a sufficient use of a list spot, especially if it obstructs the development path of the next generation of tall defenders coming through.

For example, while he builds his body Kalani White will likely spend a lot of time at Casey mastering the positioning and rhythms of the intercepting defender. Given that McGovern is like a stockier, slower Lever there would be a clear jam of roles.

  1. Wade Derksen

  2. Keep Lever

  3. McGovern

Probably some other options between 2 and 3 too.

it will be interesting to see how kalani is initially deployed

i look at how the dogs started sam darcy behind the ball before transitioning him into a forward / ruck role

now obvs kalani isn't as highly rated as as sam darcy, and a bit smaller, but i do wonder if they see that development trajectory as a plan

If Steve May's performance last Saturday was indicative of his projected 2026 footballing, then I'd replace him with McGovern in a heart beat. An absolute heart beat.

McGovern is possibly the worst โ€˜big credentialledโ€™ footballer Iโ€™ve EVER seen

Insane Carlton paid him 800k a year to get him across from the Crows. He's one of the most overpaid players in history. He's 32 years of age, injury prone, and we have decent defensive depth. There's better options if needed.

Sorry I meant

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demonsโ€™ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.
