Defending Goodwin over Gawn is a good one. 🤮

It’s all on Gawn, the quirky man.

Offers no on field leadership.

Goody can’t run out and hold his hand.

The clearances were a procession Saints way in the last, that’s on Gawn.

We have reached a critical crossroad, No President, No CEO, no training facility, and a strange idea regarding a racetrack.

This is a Bailey moment, find a new Mark Neeld, be careful what you wish for.

It's difficult only having one sub, need to balance the risk of early injury vs getting quick/fresh legs in at the end.
Chuck has positive attributes, but they're only shown when everything is going well.
To be a good sub IMO you need to have one standout attribute whether that be versatility/pace/physicality/marking/goals or whatever - and Spargo doesnt really tick any of those boxes.
As i said in another thread, if he's not starting, he probably should be lining up for Casey.

Yep, Spargo is a great complementary piece when the team is firing all cylinders. Otherwise, nothing to add to our game.

That 6-6-6 debacle wouldn't have been an issue if we hadn't gone into cruise mode in the last quarter. That's what embarrasses me most. Oliver and Petracca were already cooked and the remaining players were either celebrating the victory early or had switched off. Pathetic! Earlier in the game I was thinking how well our defence was going without Lever and May. I still believe they can function well. The midfield was the problem. Shown up by Max Hall in the last and we didn't bother to respond other than have faith in our mids to respond. [censored] that! Hard tag on Hall FFS

The 6-6-6 free was the MFC executing the dumbest of dumb footy. Max came back to the centre square with his arms in the air questioning why, when he didn't have to. Viney inexplicably standing by himself on the wing (assume he thought a complete restart was required). The rest of the players were dumbfounded (it's a theme) while NWM and Marshall came up with a winning plan.

On field leadership is more important than some people think.

We have lost our two main on field leaders in Gus & Nibbler. They were more than Kicks & marks in their approaches.

"The good thing" is that it should/must only happen ONCE and if we do not learn :

The rules of the game

How to handle a situation

Then you should not be a "Leader " at elite levels

Part of elite sport is the mental capacity involved, not only in your skills (which are physical) , but your mental toughness ( Q How do you teach that !!)

Glad whatever happens is not my decision.

But something needs to be done.

Stand all players in front of a mirror for 10 minutes or so. Coaching staff included.

I was not here for 186 or just after that, but it’s very like eND. Favourites bring played and little or no plan for the future.

Disappointed with that last quarter , has bits of everything wrong and very little that is right.

Self, keep your mouth tightly shut !!!

Didnt anyone else just feel no emotion when the siren sounded?

Funny enough I just sat there for a good 5 minutes and just reflected on what actually just happened.

Stunned, but yet not one bit surprised. It was just the Melbourne way to lose unfortunately.

Then the influx of text messages and what's app group blew up from my mates just rubbing the extra salt in the wound.

ahhh no. I went on an absolute rampage. Had to send myself to the garage and stay there for an hour to calm down.

No heartbreak, just fear of the impending embarrassment and the not wanting to show your face in public feeling.

I said it before, I cannot believe the one thing that got me caring about this game and out of my seat was the possibility of an embarrassing record falling and the do or die mission to avoid it. That is the life of following this club, you're never ahead by enough, you're never a sure thing to beat a rabble team, and you're never far away from being the butt of people's jokes.

MFC fans have done it tough, sure we've had good times too but my word do they come at a cost!

I'm going to bed, the sun will rise tomorrow and may this day be banished to the history books never to be repeated again. Good riddance.

I'm the same ,I just laughed at the end. I can't find myself caring until they're is some major change. I'm done with Goodwin era. Thanks for your service and always grateful for a flag but I'm done for the time being. Will still buy a membership and go to the odd game but I'm done getting emotionally invested it's just not good for me

Yeah I didn't get angry, mainly because I convinced myself there wouldn't be enough time for them to get in front & we'd get a goal.

I Was actually laughing because it's typical Melbourne.

I'm still not angry, just disappointed that we find ways for this to happen. And as I wrote previously, we are an embarrassment

I had a bit of a chuckle and hopped online to buy a couple of Oz lotto tickets

Yep, I lost the bet

Greatest ever 3Q comeback, and it was the saints!! They’re not even a good team!

HOW IS ANY OF THIS DEFENSIBLE??

AT WHAT POINT DID WE JUST SAY STUFF IT LET’S FLOOD THE BACK HALF OF THE GROUND AND BORE THEM TO DEATH??

We deserve a proper explanation for that. Not just learnings. Because this is about as low as it gets.

Goodwin needed to get them behind closed doors, give them a spray then turn to the leaders & say where were you

How about someone give Goodwin a spray? Diabolical coaching in the last quarter

There is only one Mark Neeld. He ain’t coming back.

We have a President, a CEO (try using google for an update) and need new heads of the Football Department.

186 and now today. I’m not signing up next year unless the coaches and Richo are sacked. I have footy these days and have lost all passion for the club

Honestly if it were 2 years ago I might have been angry. Now I am just fairly neutral. 2023 broke me. I am still just absolutely gobsmacked at how far this club has fallen in the space of 12 months. It must be studied.

This pretty much sums it up exactly how im feeling.

Strangely I’m not feeling overly upset. Maybe supporting the Dee’s for well over half a century has hardened me up. I just feel a little numb.

Or maybe I’ll get a big dose of PTSD in the coming days. Who knows.

Typo

Culture goes deep in organisations. Good culture is very hard to build and maintain, and it’s fragile. It’s a million tiny things. I still track the decline to the May/Melksham incident. That doesn’t happen in a team that cares about each other. As much as we all hate Collingwood, look how they rally around each other.

I want Goodwin and our players to be embarrassed by this.

I just don’t have any confidence they will be.

That is depressing.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

It seems like only yesterday that these two sides faced off against each other in the centre of the continent. It was when Melbourne was experiencing a rare period of success with five wins from its previous six matches including victories over both of last year’s grand finalists.  Well, it wasn’t yesterday but it was early last month and it remains etched clearly in the memory. The Saints were going through a slump and the predicted outcome of their encounter at TIO Traeger Park was a virtual no-brainer. A Melbourne victory and another step closer to a possible rise into finals contention. Something that was unthinkable after opening the season with five straight defeats.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.
