Just when you thought this joke of a club couldn't get any more embarrassing you get a 9g to 1 last qtr against.

Just go Goodwin ffs before you kill the club completely

Aaah that's be zero goals to us junior..... putrid

Wouldn't have happened had the Airplane played and we stopped loading in April 🤣 🙃 ☠️.

A loss like that is all down to a lack of on field leadership. eg giving away a critical 666 at a time like that …

Saints had Goodwin

I’m gobsmacked. They played without heart in the last quarter, and ripped the hearts out of many, many thousands of Melbourne supporters along the way. I assume they care, but after an effort like that, you gotta wonder!

Gee the servers are working harder than any of our players did in the last quarter.

What a bizarre game. We played with so much speed and dare for three quarters with Max giving Marshall a bath. Then, our midfield just stopped. Our on field leaders need to carry the can for a lot of that last quarter. Particularly the debacle at the end.

Even with the 6-6-6 breach they still only had eight seconds to score and we allowed an uncontested mark inside fifty

Great to see us beak another record, the biggest 3/4 qtr come back in VFL/AFL history, of wait....

How pathetic. For a team that had defence first it was shocking. It sums up how the team have been repaired and coached this year. Lack of fitness to run out a game.

The sub decision: What did Spargo offer when he came on, nothing. (his efforts were pathetic from what I saw on TV) Sharpe would have been far better, speed and maximum effort and would have made a difference in the last. Enough to hold on who knows.

As for the 8 seconds, why didn't the mid run with the oppo players as they run forward as that shorter kick was always on. I missed what the free was about?

Yeah time for the coaching team to go.

Cold. Wet. Train replacements there and back.

So pleased I made the effort to go.

I won't cancel my membership if Goodwin is coach next year. But I will reduce it from 16 to 3 games, cause that's about all I can suffer through at this point.

I was tossing up downgrading considering I've been paying for a premium seat on level 2 and haven't been going much this year.

I don't think I'll even bother downgrading. This has made up my mind.

I have two premium seats! So gutted! Absolute putrid last quarter!

Yes. When the coach is moved on we're going to be stuck with the same pea hearted playing group, with an in-built playing culture of 'never ever find a way'. I actually think the club might struggle for viability...people are increasingly embarrassed to identify as Melbourne fans and we're about to go through 5 or more years where it's going to get even worse on field

4 years removed from a flag that it has to be said was just an astounding case of luck and timing. The guys who played in that flag just aren't very good players.

Oof. Sorry mate

Well that was an unpleasant experience. I knew we would lose when we conceded the first 3 goals of the final quarter. So predictably pathetic. Something needs to change.

Exactly. Who actually was on wanganeen-millera all day? Our defence went to rubbish in the final term

As I indicated last week, I go to all the games (flying from NSW each week) but after the Carlton game and Goodwin scamming us with his press interview I decided to save the time and around $500 and stayed home.

I am so pleased I made the effort to do that.

Won’t be going as far as cancelling the membership as I am on a 21 year straight membership streak, but I might just downgrade to the basic $150 general admission membership.

46 pts conceded to a [censored] side like St Kilda who was on a 6-7 losing streak with their last win coming at the Alice Springs debacle.

Most people just don’t realise how damaging this loss can be going forward with Goodwin in charge. The entire club needs a freshen up asap.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
