So we had four players fined.

How many did Gold Coast get fined.

I did not see the picket punch. Was it there at all ?

Looks like I watch the best qtr of all being the 1st qtr.

The game we start a brawl in i don't get to see.

FML.

Kozzie's very lucky he can keep escaping suspensions with these low level strikes.

May did not and should not have copped a suspension. Not sure it warranted the melee.

And I especially loved that we were at out toughest during this useless melee which resulted in Ainsworth running 40 metred unattended into the easiest goal of his life. (Pathetic)

MATCH REVIEW: Fiorini and May in the clear, 22 charges laid

The match review findings from Saturday's round 16 games are in

5 players for us got fined (May, Salem, Viney, Oliver, Melksham) engaging in a melee/wrestle

6 Suns got a fine for engaging in a melee/wrestle (Noble, Walter, Anderson, Humphrey, Collings, Clohesy)

In addition to Ben King getting a fine for Instigator of a Melee/Wrestle.

Personally, reckon the fine for instigating a melee should be higher than engaging in a melee

Apparently a melee is an acceptable setting for the umpires to ignore the rules and not re-set him to take the ball back behind the mark.

Or to reverse the kick in the first place to give it to May for being smacked by 2 suns players

Loved the "Petty had poor technique"when he got concussed rubbish by the media

It's along the same vibe as "Brayshaw deviated his line into ftards shoulder" kinda logic.

What about Vineys sling tackle on whoever it was? Rowell?

I know it didnt even draw a free kick at the time but the TV commentary review panel were already giving him weeks.

After picking up the ball ahead of the mark, while defenders were being held and wrestling in a melee, not able to stop him and then not bouncing the ball once in that 40 metre run.

Wonderful officiating!

Club is apparently silent

Literally no one pushes back on this

It’s disgusting

More than that. Am I right in thinking the umpire had already stopped the clock. Subsequently using 'play-on' to break up a melee may sound a plausible excuse, but I don't think it is good policy to give such an advantage to either side, and especially the one that start the melee. Just imagine if it was a close game and happened to C'wood.

I think you are correct, that the time on had been called and play was stopped.

I was unaware of the new rules that you can run with the ball as far as you like, without bouncing it, if you are running from a melee and that you don’t have to go behind your mark if a free is called and play is stopped, when time on has been called, while your team mates have knocked down a player not in the play and are wrestling the opposition to stop them defending.

We will say nothing most likely.

Are we sure the umpire did not award a 50 meter penalty for late contact after the mark was taken (even if momentarily)?

Yes we are sure, it was paid a free not a mark and no 50m penalty.

As Ainsworth ran past the umpire, he put his hands up and called play on and watched him run 40 metres into goal without bouncing the ball.

OK, so you're sure Ainsworth wasn't just being given the green light to proceed to the new mark (with 50 meters )to take his kick. Often players do that so as to register the score quickly and therefore avoid a reversal from any infringement in the melee.

He was actually all alone and unattended.

We can only pray for small mercies like this in a [censored] season.

At least 20 of the 40 were without a bounce! Where is an umpire who has the guts to adjudicate the most basic of rules?

You and I know that will not happen. Pies are being umpired to the Grand Final. Watch the last 5 minutes of their games, you would be incredibly lucky to see a free paid against them.

That's very gucking food

If you use a g instead of an f.

Is it the same as using a b instead of a c.

What a silly bunt !

He bounced it as he ran past the umpire. The tv vision didn't show that. From where he bounced to where he kicked it could arguably been too far, but he definitely bounced it

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Gold Coast

On Friday, the Demons return to our Casey Fields fortress where they have a 77% win rate. The scent of September is in the air and the struggling Suns are on the horizon. The Cranbourne weather forecast? Ominous, like the match itself: a strong chance of carnage. Let’s be honest, last week’s first half against the West Coast was a training drill but we dropped our guard in the final quarter. While this match is a mismatch on paper — second versus seventeenth — football is won in the wind, the contests, and the moments.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #32 Tom Sparrow

The rugged Sparrow’s career appears to have plateaued in recent years. He makes the side on a week to week basis but he is unable to establish a foothold in the team’s midfield and arguably performs best outside of the contest in a forward position without being a goal kicker. He remains a good honest foot soldier but is not a star.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #33 Tom Fullarton

Fullarton managed a couple of games in the first half of the season but soon found himself back in the VFL. There, he found a niche at centre half back but it was not enough to retain a place on the list at season’s end.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #35 Harrison Petty

Entering 2025, it looked as if Petty would be secured in a defensive position, but plans shifted and he spent more time forward, averaging just over a goal per game throughout the season. It remains uncertain which area of the ground he will be expected to cover under the new coaching regime.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #36 Kysaiah Pickett

The dynamic small forward, possessing an innate ability to generate excitement with his explosive play around the goals, successfully transitioned into a role that afforded him more time in the midfield. The club also negotiated a long-term deal with Pickett, thereby eliminating any prospect of a move west by their star young player.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #37 Kade Chandler

For a few years now, he has been a reliable, hard working pressure forward, but in 2025, Chandler elevated his performance, becoming an integral component of the team with enough versatility to play effectively on a wing from time to time.
