Aidan Johnson Cops 2 Match Ban

Surprised he wasn't ruled out for the season after this hit piece

As expected. He didn’t need to do that at all. You leave the ground and turn your body and collect a player high, and you’re in trouble.

Stupid from a guy fighting for his AFL life.

JVR to replace him

I'd like to understand how this was different to the Mills bump on Spargo.

It wasn’t. But Mills is Mills, and AJ has played 5 games for 2 suspensions. Connect the dots.

He should cop his fair whack. But we should challenge on the basis of Miles last week and the fact that Pearce knocks a bloke out and get it revoked. The AFL have absolutely NFI.

ok.

The only possible objection to the suspension would be the inconsistency of the MRO/tribunal circus, but, if that were a cause you could get anyone off anything.

Yes, the media loves a hanging judge.

I was hoping it was going to be thrown out along with Meek’s spoil on Lipinski, but it was a bridge too far.

A star player would have been graded Medium contact rather than High but Johnson is the very definition of a henchman.

The two-match ban is about right imo.

What I have a problem with is all the talk on here about how we need someone crashing packs, no fear, grunt etc. We get AJ who fits the bill, he’s suspended, so now he’s dumb??? It’s a fine line he treads, let’s have his back.

Deleted. Couldn't be bothered

IKR?

It sounds unconscionable, but once the deed was done, I was sort of hoping W – M was going to be off for the whole game.

Now it feels like he’s been suspended without the team having any benefit. Probably wouldn’t have saved us though.

Would much rather AJ have played like a saint until KB. Maybe not quite in those words, but certainly saved up any vitriol, or malicious intent for number 4 this week.

Is there a return fixture?

Pretty bloody dumb.

Should not and won't play another AFL game!

Just tried to be a 1980s player !!

Not showing any sense of the modern game.

What was the point of jumping into a bloke kicking the ball ? Smother or spoil or tackle with force. Not bump. Was it stupid? 95/100 people would say yes.

With that sort of attitude BAMF you wouldn't have looked out of place in our side yesterday.

I agree, but also why waste the money on a challenge? AJ isn’t exactly setting the world on fire. What he did was stupid, and could have easily concussed someone. Given what Viney is facing and what we went thru with Gus, I have no issues letting him cop a 2 week ban.

The best ability is availability.

Especially when you’re a mature age recruit who has already missed games due to suspension.

His only AFL attribute is his aggression. But this is his second suspension in 5 games so it’s become a liability.

He’s probably a ripper bloke but unfortunately he has no skills to be an afl player. If not suspended he should have been dropped anyways.

Two weeks seems right to me. Not a good look for the game, and very lucky that W-M didn’t fail the concussion protocols.

I love the intensity and aggression that AJ brings to the game, but he needs to contain it where the head might be involved.

He needs to learn from this!

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
