Goodwin stating he's more likely to back the senior players in to turn their form around than make changes to the team.

And that statement above all others tells me that he should be sacked...IMMEDIATELY!

Wow, only 6 marks all season for JVR!?

And only 2 contested, one of which was a blatant push in the back by him on Guthrie.

He must be dropped

I'm definitely be betting Freo 40+ next week. Nothing surer.

DId anyone bet 39 yesterday ? Bummer

The senior players have lost faith in Goody , if he stays on we would be lucky to win 2 matches for the year. Players like Kossie,Petty,Petracca and Oliver would want to go. Others players will be included.

Who comes in and who goes out will not make any difference whatsoever. We are back to revolving doors.

The club needs to be shaken up , I would play May and Fullerton and/or Jefferson forward . Adams,Turner and JVR back and Sestan. Drop Salem ,Chandler,Viney. Make Max Gawn as rucking coach part time player which means Max and Verrall share ruck duties. Drop Sparrow as well . Give Pup a chance playing forward. NONE OF THESE MOVES WILL HAPPEN OF COURSE.

JVR has to go back to Casey to find form and have a breather. His confidence is in the toilet and frankly continuing to play him is neglectful. He isn’t going to improve in a team that is struggling across the board.

We are asking a 45 game player to be our number 1 FF, take the best defender each week and also play ruck.

WTF are we doing?

Since there’ll be about 20 of us at the MCG what sandwiches shall I bring? Who’s in charge of the cheese platter? Easter egg hunt at half time 😂

At least there won't be any queues in the Frank Grey Smith Bar

Going to be another big crowd at the 'G will we crack 20k?

No chance, why would anyone waste their time? Especially over a long weekend when many will be away. In fact only chance is Freo supporters doing a long weekend over here bumping crowd numbers up.

If we continue our previous form from last two years and our current, I’d be surprised if we didn’t lose by 100. Sad life..

Ok - I’m going to go. I’m so disappointed like everyone else but I’m not giving up on the club. Been a member for a long time and we’ve been down this path before.

This game could get very ugly. They have big fellas up forward and classy smalls plus a midfield that will run rings around ours. A decent back line also. Then again, all teams have a decent back line when playing our forwards. Just hope we can be competitive as coming down from Brissie for the Tigers game with Sons and Grandsons. Don't want to go to the G for first time in over 35 years and see us get a hiding from the Tigers.

I'll also be there, Jane.

Forget this. Seriously.

Not even going to bother talking tactics and selection, we don't need band-aids we need surgery.

But yeah I'll be there.

I'll attend. Back in the neeld days we'd go & go out for lunch or dinner beforehand so at least make something good about the day.

Then I'd sit at the game with no stress because most likely we'd lose.

I'll go and see the young kids & support them.

Hopefully the hugh trumble cafe won't be to busy.

They should close the whole top deck of the G because it's going to be a tiny crowd. Throw in its a long weekend, it's Easter and our form.

JVR was given an impossible role last night so it’s no surprise he struggled, but equally it’s fair to say he needs a reset. Send him back to Casey to get his hands on the ball and to remember that he knows how to lead, leap and mark.

We can’t keep playing Sparrow when he impacts games as little as he did last night. Make him a dedicated tagger, or set the standard by dropping him.

Henderson had 4 touches. An obvious out.

Terrific story but he’s not adding any value.

Once Jefferson is fully fit, I’d be playing him in week in week out. This club is beyond screaming for proper forwards and we spent a first rounder on this guy. Give him the entire year and let him build some synergy with JVR and one of Turner or Fullarton. Let’s get a proper forward structure going.

There are clearly a number of issues (selection, performance, effort, playing style) going on that indicate the leadership is failing.

We've lost Gus, ANB and for the moment, Lever. And as if that in itself isn't a body blow, we then have the remaining leaders struggling on field - May, Viney, Gawn, to some extent Petracca.

It shouldn't be for players like Langdon and Bowey to carry the load, but there we are.

Increasingly seems like losing Gus Brayshaw cut the heart of the club.

100 pt loss coming up

100% agreed.

Fremantle was one side that troubled us during the 2020-2023 era of competent MFC football. Longmuir completed owns Goodwin.

If Freo are in a mood and hunting percentage this could get ugly.

Never been so disappointed after a live performance. They were putrid considering the amount of fans who travelled/attended to watch that.

Thankyou for your service Simon but it is time to move on. The sooner we can start canvasing new coaches the better.

Slightly alternative line-up I wouldn't mind seeing but definitelywon't happen.

FB: Bowey May McDonald

HB: Salem Turner Lindsay

C: Langdon Oliver Windsor

HF: Chandler JvR Spargo

FF: Pickett Jefferson Fritsch

R: Gawn Petracca Rivers

I: Viney Petty Sestan Laurie

S: Billings (or Brown)

Sestan debut and plays a role as a defender.

Lindsay to play predominantly half back, excellent user, good defensive qualities and competitiveness, releases Windsor back to the wing witha license to take the game on.

Turner to return to the backline where I think he's better suited. Can learn with May and McDonald. Might be a controversial move but I'd put Petty forward. Low bar but looks our best marking target and link up player in the brief time he's gone ahead of the ball. Bonus is he can swing back if required or not working.

Laurie full game, give him 5 in a row and actually see if he's worth further time. If after that he's no good, look to trade or demote to rookie list at the end of the season (is this still allowed?)

Melksham, Henderson, Sharp and Sparrow dropped.

Following week McVee and Tholstrup come in.

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturday’s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFL’s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
