Wait do people think that these announced team lineup positions are actually the definite positions they start at on the day/night? Its just slapped together really. I doubt Sparrow starts on a wing either...

Yes, some actually do. Last year someone thought Max Holmes was going to line up on Petty cause Holmes was named on the back flank and Petty on the forward flank.

Still can’t get the luck.

Haven’t had the 2 key Defenders in the same game yet, with both missing 2 of the first 4 games.

Of course Stewart is back for Cats, who are probably at full strength at home.

Laurie should be in for Spargo. Just don’t understand why players get a free run at playing seniors with little footy behind them. Laurie deserves a solid run at it.

You have a short memory. Laurie is useless in the seniors and should not ever be selected. Ever.

Laurie must be wondering what he has to do to get a game but Henderson and Sharp walk into the team and aren't playing very well

laurie is in the same boat as spargo not an afl footballer...... if you think hendo should be dropped ur clueless, sharp has been okay

Coaches treat Spargo likes he's Gary Ablett Jnr..

Unbelievable.

Spargo is a proven strong tackler with good kicking skills

Fair to say we need these attributes

I’d like to see us trial more youngsters. See if they measure up. Why play McDonald and Melksham. They will retire at seasons end. We need to see what youngsters like Adams, Laurie etc can offer.

We’re short good kicks and small forwards and players who can tackle. We’ll be better if Spargo finds form.

Lever out is a blow still means we have McDonald in the side. Laurie not selected is fair enough Sharp probably deserves another go.

Useless as in half the players playing who are out of form? Petty was useless all of last year yet he survives. Fritta has also been useless and has been given a big run. Laurie hasn’t been given an extended run in the seniors and deserves one.

Aand if thats all he has got then another liability

No, he is at a different level. If he played 1 good AFL game, just one, I’d have a different view, but he hasn’t and won’t if he gets another go. He’s in delist territory.

So the easy targets get dropped again.

At least Johnson can give max a chop out in the ruck instead of van rooyen.

Also I've seen him apply more defensive pressure than fritsch has done.

How many more chances does fritsch get & remember his form wasn't that great towards the end of last season.

Oliver on the pine. Surprising. I would have thought Petracca or Viney before him

Yep Viney for me. I just think the game has passed him by unless he can reinvent himself as a defensive forward maybe. The modern game is about ball speed and movement not the repeated stoppage game we perfected in 2021, where Viney once thrived. I think Vines is the one to go.

People expecting Fritsch to get dropped are booonana's

That quote will come back to haunt you

I can go along with this selected team. I would have dropped a couple of 'names' that are not performing but it is as expected given the coaching teams loyalties to some of the players.

However, I hope that no players gets a pass in this game. The not negotiables in this game are 'perform or get dropped, no excuses.'

At this point I don’t think there is a team we could select that half the posters on Demonland wouldn’t have an issue with.

That in and of itself speaks volumes

What is the Value of Fritsch ?

If he’s NOT kicking goals, what is he actually good for?

Is it his run and carry, his defensive efforts, his pack marking, his physicality, his high possession count, his leadership qualities, his desperation, his clearance work?

Name an alternative forward who tackles and can kick? Very negative view.

  • REPORT: Adelaide

The atmosphere at the Melbourne Football Club at the beginning of the season was aspirational following an injury-plagued year in 2024. Coach Simon Goodwin had lofty expectations with the return of key players, the anticipated improvement from a maturing group with a few years of experience under their belts, and some exceptional young talent also joining the ranks. All of that went by the wayside as the team failed to click into action early on. It rallied briefly with a new strategy but has fallen again with five more  consecutive defeats.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
