i thought he was quite good last year. at times really good. this pre-season hes been quite poor though. I still think he will end up a third tall in defence and be very effective.

Sadly I am not convinced he is more than a contributor. We need a power CHF who can kick 30 goals a season. Two days before our first game of 2025 I don’t see one on our list. Sadly it appears that none are available so we are trying to pick a diamond from obscurity. Worth a try!

Wrapt for Aidan Johnson. Lending one of his/my mate a MFC jumper as him and a bunch of our mates have already secured tickets and will make the trek down from Albury on Sunday.

Don’t think we have any smalls available who would be pushing for selection anyway, best off just playing the best 22 available whatever the make up is, would you rather billing’s come in for Jefferson for example I know I wouldn’t

Is it possible to be delighted, apprehensive AND excited at the same time? Yes.

This squad looks like a deliberate break away from all the carp of 2024, and a risk/reward exploration of the new forward setup we so desperately need. Kozzie, Spargo and Tholstrup easily walk into this forward line, but unavailable.

I have been a Jeffo fan for a while and hope he starts on the ground, but AJ looks more likely to worry the GWS backline.

Centre line of Langdon, Clarry, Windsor please.

Starting team might look like this:

B:    Petty  May Bowey

HB: Rivers Lever  Salem

C:   Langdon Oliver  Windsor

HF: Henderson AJ  Sparrow

F:   Fritsch   JVR  Chandler

R:   Gawn  Viney  Petracca

I/C Langford Sharp Lindsey Jefferson

Concerns - 1) defensive run over 4 quarters  2) can this forward setup click

Anticipation - 1) Jeffo  2) Langford

I notice afl.com.au has Tom Campbell now locked in at CHF, hoping this is only a typo

He has just replaced Turner (illness) in the squad. Will be an emergency with Tmac and Billings.

What little hope GWS had has all but evaporated. We’ve got the exuberant youth to go with our megastars. A win is all but guaranteed

I'd be surprised if they get on the plane to come down here.

Here goes the negative spin again from Barrett.  He takes every chance to pile into the Dees. Even when we are transparent and open, he wants a negative spin.  I mute him on the Tv now.  He loves the hate!!! 666 is his number.

IF ...

anybody paid attention to Damien Barrett ...

THEN ...

while I'll never believe it, I'd be amazed if anyone stepped forward. WGAF what this plonker thinks.

If it’s bucketing down then yes. Although the other option is the sub (differing opinions on who that could be but I think Langford) starts and Jeffo is sub. He’d be an unusual sub but he’s mobile enough to come on fresh and we have the flexibility in this team to move guys around.

If obviously different if it’s 6mm of rain across the day or 20mm dumped right during the game

Wow, no Billings and Henderson to play.

Billings missing easy goals in the sim hurt him.

Henderson without a preseason or practice match. They must know something! (Possibly the sub)

Turner not even an emergency. Too easily pushed off the ball?

Great that Jefferson gets a go. Has good hands, enough skills to get the groundball off the packs, and finds separation. Worried about defensive efforts, appears a step (sometimes two) behind. Get involved early, a few sausages, cement your spot. Lace out to him Fritsch, Chandler and Sharp.

Rapt for Lindsay and Langford. Go get them.

Sharp will be so happy, the new and better ANB.

So many to debut, more excitement than anxiety, I hope.

Go Dees

The forecast seemingly has the rain finishing around 2:00. Hopefully conditions dry up quickly.

Feel a little for Wowey who has had Henderson waltz past him by the looks

Woey a victim of being a jack of all trades but a master of none

Henderson getting a gig (presumably as sub) ahead of Kynan Brown is interesting though!

I'm officially retiring from guessing team selections - no Tmac (who i least walkred back yesterday), Billings or Turner.

I thought the latter two were locks - ditto Tmac a week or so ago.

(The expected rain might be a factor in the call on tmac and turner)

Henderson is a genuine bolter, but i guess we needed a small forward to cover koz.

I'm happy JVR won't have to ruck.

How great for Henderson and AJ to share a debut. Werribee tigers must be thrilled.

What a buzz for so many players to debut. I wonder if the tiger's energy last night was a factor?

I'm pumped.

  • POSTGAME: Sydney

The Demons controlled the contest from the outset, though inaccurate kicking kept the Swans in the game until half time. But after the break, Melbourne put on the jets and blew Sydney away and the demolition job was complete.

  • CASEY: Northern Bullants

The Casey Demons travelled to a windy Cramer Street, Preston yesterday and blew the Northern Bullants off the ground for three quarters before shutting up shop in the final term, coasting to a much-needed 71-point victory after leading by almost 15 goals at one stage. It was a pleasing performance that revived the Demons’ prospects for the 2025 season but, at the same time, very little can be taken from the game because of the weak opposition. These days, the Bullants are little more than road kill. The once proud club, situated behind the Preston Market in a now culturally diverse area, is currently facing significant financial and on-field challenges, having failed to secure a win to date in 2025.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons have a golden opportunity to build on last week’s stirring win by toppling Sydney at the MCG. A victory today would keep them firmly in the hunt for a finals spot and help them stay in touch with the pack chasing a place in the Top 8. Can the Dees make it two in a row and bring down the Swans?
