Trac cracked rib

Melbourne star Christian Petracca has sustained a cracked rib following a knock at training on Friday at Casey Fields.

AFL Performance Manager, Selwyn Griffith, provided an update on the midfielderโ€™s injury.

โ€œDuring todayโ€™s training session, Christian received a knock to the rib area in a contest,โ€ Griffith said.

โ€œWe sent Christian for scans this afternoon, which unfortunately showed a crack in his rib.ย

โ€œThis is frustrating news for Christian, who was progressing well and had recovered from the rib and spleen issues he sustained during the 2024 season.

โ€œA timeline for his recovery will be determined in due course.โ€

Coming up on ch10 sport next.

What an earth are they doing at training? First Max with his laryx and now Trac with a broken rib.ย

Disappointing but he'll be back running in a few weeks and still plenty of time until round 1. He'll be fine.

A pretty common injury that won't effect round one.

No biggie.

Letโ€™s train non contact, thatโ€™ll help us for round 1

these things happen. he'll be right for rd 1. not ideal but rather now than in season.

Either he has done too many ab crunches (likely), or he hasnโ€™t done enough (a scary thought).

Might not do his confidence a lot of good.

Max'll be able to share a thing or two with him about not losing, or at least regaining, confidence after a repeat injury.

Hope they didn't send him to the Epworth

This is a disappointing setback for all of us, but I commend our Club for communicating the news immediately. ย This probably wouldnโ€™t have happened a few months ago.

No contact for a couple of weeks, then light training through Feb. Thats probable for tracc.

The thing is we have had a very good pre-season otherwise.ย

Might help.

He'll be fine. Is in ripping nick so the run is in the legs.

This really would be almost a non-issue if he didnโ€™t have the huge hit last year. Obviously the main concern is his mental capacity after this, but I guess it could go one of two ways, 1. It impacts him negatively mentally or, 2. He took a big hit, went to hospital and this strengthens his confidence. Time will tell.

i guess the main concern outside of that is if his rib area is compromised as a result of the hit last year

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
