can he put the boots on just for today?

Fullarton is playing well. Instrumental in 2 goals. A better player than Jefferson and JVR.

He can ruck also, who said he couldn't?

He's more than competent in the ruck.

He's playing his role without setting the world on fire, but that's all we want a chop out for Gawn and to contest.

A good serviceable game from Fullarton today. Forward pay looked solid enough, and his ruck work was better than I anticipated. A lot better than what JVR and Fritsch have been offering.

Gave a good chop out and unlike JVR he actually leads forward towards the ball carrier.

He gets another week for me.

Thanks so much for posting this mate. Got a bit emotional seeing the Wiz speak the way he did about the club.

Average game but helped Max in the ruck

that shot for goal was horrible but he’ll probably get another game as no one knocking at the door

Had a couple of shots at goal that he should have converted. Lead well all day, put pressure on at times and when he went into the ruck he was effective. I think he should get at least another week, played a role and played it well.

Pity he doesn't kick it like JVR.

First game at AFL level in 3 years.. i can absolutely excuse the first game jitters.

JVR shanked an absolute certainty in the lunch time game earlier on just a fyi.

Um no not better than jeffo, who um kicked 2 in his first game!!! How many did Fullo kick again??? But agree, played a role!

Needs to be given 6 weeks, like any other player, get some confidence and trust at level.

Can't get that in and out !!!

Fullarton is considerably more agile than the Lumbering Van Rooyen.

That alone makes our Forward line more functional.

He also, IMO, gives Max a better chop out.

Thought he did well as the back up ruck, although O-Mac isn’t exactly Sean Darcy.

I’d keep him in

Gee, it doesn't take long for people to turn. Not long so JVR was a saviour. Now he's trash.

Well, he isn't; imv he needs to be played as a mobile CHF and we will see the best of him.

JVR at 21yo is a future quality tall fwd

He will take time but has way more talent than a Fullarton

Look at Fogarty, he is finally coming good at almost 26. JVR will definitely make it once he learns the trade

Got to give him a month.

Give the lad some confidence.

Ditto. Okay performance. He’s back for the next game. His ruck and general forward craft looked better than JVR and it helped Gawn.

Tom played his role to a nicety, all things considered

Playing the proper 2nd ruck allowed us to save Max's legs for the last quarter

And Tom led well on occasions when forward. At some stage, JVR will return but not necessarily at the expense of Fullarton

We should give Tom a block of 4 games in order to make a better evaluation (from a MC point of view)

Oscar and an underdone Darcy probably the easiest back up ruck combination in the league but he was better than expected there (some of his Casey efforts in the ruck have been diabolically bad).

Definitely gets at least 1 more week. Agree that his leading at the ball (and height that draws free kicks) both offer more than JVR. Although I feel for JVR because Melk and Petty are our best tall forwards to play alongside. Whoever we picked in that role had way more of a chance than some of our earlier combinations

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
