It's totally irrational for Melbourne supporters being concerned by Hird giving advice with regards to the search for a CEO.

People seem to lose their mind when it comes to football clubs.

And so we should, for many footy is our religion.

Hird’s well and truly done his time. You lot carry on like you’ve never made a mistake. He’s got a wealth of football knowledge and we’re asking him to share some, hardly a big deal. Yes he majorly stuffed up and yes he never really at the balls to own it. He has however had his whole life largely ruined by the event as have many of the players who were involved, something that will haunt him till he dies I’d suspect. Essendon weren’t on their own here. Geelong, players at Melbourne and others all had dealings with Dank and received meds, I won’t name names but if you don’t know who you’ve had your head in the sand.

Didn’t he get a study junket in Europe paid for fully by the AFL or something to that nature?

You can't have redemption without admission of guilt. Hird still denies everything.

That's Catholic nonsense. Admit your crimes on your death bed & all is forgiven.

In the real world you pay the penalty & that's it.

You want to penalise him a second time

Not sure I trust hird to help pick our CEO.

He's not doing that. I know the headhunter and they simply are seeking several 3rd parties , Gemba included,as sounding boards. No way is any parties outside the HR consultants involved in selection.

Standard procedure here.

Goody has no role to play in this decision.

fwiw he may still have 'director' as his title at gemba but it would seem to be in name only, according to those who should know

i maintain this story of "hird to pick dees' ceo" is clickbait nonsense

classic jay clark; strange that paul amy has a byline on it

Ah Religion.... "The opiate of the people"

CEO of an AFL club is not exactly a plum appointment. Most of the key drivers you have control over in business are absent in the AFL model. Even the Boards are more guardians than true boards of management. Revenues are fuzzy to say the least given AFL support, hard and soft caps, controlled stadiums, managed fixtures etc

My guess is that we will end up with an administrator type.

My first question to a candidate would be how she/he would manage a club with stagnant if not declining membership

Which world is this? Not the one I’m currently living in, so much goes unpunished in all aspects of life.

Ridiculous Statement

When Peter Jackson came in to the MFC, he had the place running properly in 2-3 weeks

the CEO is a critical role

That’s nothing; I will quit my job, and my wife will burn the house down if Hird comes to the club.

Well, if Hird ever came to my club; I’d cancel the club, burn down my neighbourhood, build it back up over many years only to burn it down again.

And so on…

I'm keen to burn down Casey Fields if your interested? Nothing to do with James Hird but if we get caught he can be our excuse.

Great idea……………let’s burn down the best facilities we’ve got.

You're right DD. I clearly didn't think this through.

safe to say we can rule josh mahoney out; he's just been promoted to general manager of football operations at head office

Josh Mahoney will improve the AFL immeasurably.👍

I like the fact we are taking our time. If there is no high quality candidate then we keep waiting until there is.

Head-hunters are working in a thorough and professional manner. Very confident of the outcome.

I can't believe that the former bomber coach is even considered.

He committed the greatest sin of all - as head coach and leader he claimed that he would take full responsibility for the club's actions but then he did everything to avoid taking any responsibility.

He should never be mentioned in these forums again.

He isn’t being considered for the role I don’t think. He is consulting as part of some consulting firm

What about Paul McNamee? I think he would be good for the run second time around.

Maybe he can get in on a wildcard.

Whispers are we're looking at Lt Col John Nagl.

Would be a bigl get.

Anyway, remember that you heard it here first.

Not even that, he’s tangentially (not really) involved with the consultancy company we have employed to assist with the ceo search
