An Achilles injury incurred before the season started came back after the season opener and, as a consequence, he was restricted to just the single game.

Perfect opportunity for him to take over where ANB left off. Needs to know his limitations and keep moving the ball quickly, him stopping play to bomb it 30m is a momentum killer.

It’s going to be like having another new recruit on top of 5 & 9, but with almost 100 games experience. Good luck Charlie another year like 2021 would be a real treat.😁😁😁

Goodwin should implement a new rule.

If you’ve had an injury interrupted pre season and you don’t appear in either the match simulation or the practice match, then you don’t play the opening game like they did with Spargo.

Spargo when he’s o. top of his game is a very useful asset due to his disposal and smarts in the forward half, but overall he’s a pretty inconsistent player.

Him playing in the opening round was ludicrous. No idea if it affected his recovery/injury but he was so clearly off the pace fitness wise.

That said he is a bit of a forgotten man, if he can get his body right he will almost be a new recruit for us.

The club or the FD must think that spargs is a great attribute.

Stupid to play him without any real preseason, and to have him then not play any further part for the year, we were another player down,

He is no champion but in my opinion uses the ball in the F50 better than others in our club,

Hope he has a full year,

The dees need a better year,    I  need a better year, please,

The forgotten boy

Surprising he's just about to turn 25. He's received our harshest judgements, while never even hitting his prime years. Interesting to see how this period goes for him.

His best is a definite asset to the side.  He's pretty much topped the league in efficiency hitting targets inside 50 in 2021 and 2022 from recollection.

Again at his best is an agressive beast and great at applying forward pressure.  Although he had a mixed 2023, he was still one of our best performers in the final against Carlton.  If we are to be up there again in 2025, we need guys like Charlie playing at their best.

If he gets a game we will have gone backwards! Where does he play and replacing who? Seriously slow player, with now dodgy achillies injury, No!

He is the best kick inside 50 we have. Full stop.

Offers more than Chandler IMO

He was a class pressure player before his mysterious injury.  Also a good kick into the forward 50, of which we have few.  Very much a different player to Chin, more similar to Nibbler when he is at his best.

Wish him all the best and really hope we can get the best out of him this season.

Go Dees!

Was outstanding in our Final against the Blues - probably the last time he played fit.
Has the smarts to improve our Forward line connection if he can get his ankle right.

He was the best in the AFL during 2022/23 wasn't he?

Yes he did have a good game, in that instance.

I wouldn't have Chandler in the side either. Does not IMPACT on the scoreboard anywhere near enough, IMV, I would prefer to try Moniz-Wakefield, or Brown Dog Junior!

Hopefully Moniz-Wakefield and Brownie Jnr will get their chance to shine but both offer a different role to Spargs, they both have pace and determination whereas Spargs has footy IQ and elite disposal traits.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
