If it's Hawthorn not making the trip down the highway then you can just about guarantee that they will only be drawn to play Collingwood once next year as there is no way they will send them down there ever.

I'm struggling to see the outrage in this as per above.

Means that one more VIC powerhouse has to go down to pay Geelong (eg - Carlton, Essendon or Collingwood) rather than JUST the usual third class citizens like us, the Dogs and North.

Having said that, nothing surer than Collingwood playing Geelong once next year, with Collingwood being the home team. Or if they do play twice, Geelong will be the home team....

.....at Gather Round.

The money from a home game down there with a clean stadium is enormous.

Think you may now find with the increased capacity they will want to play Collingwood at Kardinia Park

Their problem is that they need a crowd of 70k at the MCG to match the money they make from a 40k crowd at the MCG. Few competing clubs will deliver 70k crowds

Good, they should play 11 home games down there. The fewer home games they play at the G the less likely it is we will be scheduled a home game at Docklands.

Not to mention with the amount of government dollars pumped into the stadium they should be using it as much as possible.

Good result for the Cats, and hopefully means we see a more even fixture with the big 4 being sent down there. I also like that Easter Monday remains at the MCG as it's a marquee game, but in the years the Hawks host they should get the extra home game at Geelong.

All for Geelong to play 11 games at their home ground.

The real question that should be asked is should they be allowed to play at a venue that is as wide as a bowling green and is so far off the dimensions of every other professional ground that it is almost a different sport down there?

If they played one game a year there it would probably be against us so no harm done.

McClure on 3AW said it was completely unfair on all the VIC clubs and could not believe this was going ahead.

At the end of the day, it's their home ground. They're entitled to play as many games they like down there.

Their home finals get played away from their home ground, which more often than not is their undoing.

Not only should they play 11 games down there, it should be rotated so that EVERY club plays down there at least once every 2 years.

Fat chance of that happening, though

I'm hearing that we will be playing the cats twice next year with one of our sold home games being us playing them down there also.
