November 19, 2024Nov 19 I just watched his BOG performance during the VM v VC match, would hardly call that elite kicking. Gets plenty of it but a lot of kicks to contests, not necessarily to his teammates advantage, also one into the man in the mark, a scrubber and a handball straight to the opposition. A missed opportunity when going inside fwd 50 when he went long to a contest and could have centred it. Two or three nice kicks to open up the play and one to a leading fwd but a big call to call him an elite kick. Just my thoughts on a 6 minute highlights clip.

It's all in your action whether you're considered a nice kick. Actual results seem to matter less....
November 19, 2024Nov 19 When JT was on Gettable, he said we was off to a meeting with Goodwin and other members of the coaching staff straight after. I can picture Goodwin saying a determined 'No' to Lindsay, Smillie and Armstrong at that meeting.

November 19, 2024Nov 19 If we pick up Lindsay it will be like picking Toumpas, Scully, Trengove, Morton and Weideman all in the one go.

November 19, 2024Nov 19 Feel like I'm taking crazy pills - just don't see it with this fella. In JT we trust etc though.ย
November 19, 2024Nov 19 Hereโs some analysis that has been compiled on Lindsay. ย Heโs a very good young prospect. ย STRENGTHS: + highly skilledย + Consistency + Inside-outside midfield balance + Kick penetration + leadershipย + Work rate IMPROVEMENTS: - physical size - recovery from knee injuryย Lindsay is a player whose improvement areas are difficult to identify given he does so many things well, and has no glaring weaknesses. His best trait is arguably his ball use, credit to a raking left-foot kick when is often used to penetrate the attacking 50. He uses the ball well on the run, either wheeling away from stoppages or chaining possessions on the outside. Lindsay makes the right decisions and is largely effective in the short and long-range. ย Lindsay's kicking is perhaps at its best when lowering his eyes. He is adept at gaining quick metres and compounding them by launching the ball long, but looks so slick when darting short passes inside, down the line, or to leading targets inside 50. Either way, he generates great momentum in attacking phases either as a connective outside runner or clearance winner. Was able to improve his inside craft and followed through to average 5.4 clearances from 23.4 disposals in the Coates Talent League. Lindsay gets a big tick for versatility. He has maintained his quality on the wing and flanks while improving his contested work and enjoying stints up forward. Few others have the same kind of inside-outside balance as he is developing, and continuing to build his endurance base will only widen his scope. It will also lend to greater durability and see him become even more prolific from contest to contest. Lindsay's consistency is felt through his work rate and week-on-week output. He is capable of racking up bulk possessions as a designated kicker or go-to at the centre bounces, hardly wavering in his ability to have between 20-30 touches. While most midfielders' defensive running could improve, Lindsay has also shown an appetite for tackling and hunts the opposition. He's the type of leader who can drive standards and lead by example. He did so with a relatively young Gippsland group this year having garnered tips from a squad which produced six draftees in 2023, and one as an over-ager in 2024. Having had arguably his best outing on the biggest of stages - the National Championships final - Lindsay proved he can rise to the occasion and compete with the best of the best. November 19, 2024Nov 19 He is so slightโฆ hmm, have to remember that they build into their bodies.ย Looks like an elite kick but has to find a position on the field to compete to be in a position to kick the ballโฆ We already have Bowey down back, the wings are taken, is he too small for midfield? can he play a forward role? I just donโt know man
November 19, 2024Nov 19 To be honest, I was a little underwhelmed by that โhighlightsโ reelโฆ I think if he was given responsibility for editing it, heโd probably cut out at least three occasions where, but for the oppositions poor finishing, he would have conceded three goals; the ordinary spoil right at the beginning of the reel that was collected by his direct opponent who proceeded to kick it into the post, a handball in tight under pressure (admittedly) that was intercepted on the forward flank and passed to an oppo player in the forward pocket and finally, a kick out that was easily intercepted by an opponent who proceeded to kick a behind. Apart from those efforts, I thought his kicking was good when he was in the clear, so I suppose he reads the play well enough to give his team mates a target, but a couple of his kicks did only end up with team mates because they marked well under pressure, not because he placed the kick perfectly for them. Sorry, but I couldnโt get excited about him. Iโm still thinking weโll probably take Allan, but if Tauru does slip back down the order as clubs get cold feet, Iโd be more than happy for us to take a chance on him (Iโm not sure weโd take him at 5).
November 19, 2024Nov 19 Some harsh critics in here.ย Reminds me of the game day threads when Salem makes one mistake and a few posters say "no idea why Salem is considered a good kick" I'm hoping we go for Allan but would be happy with Lindsay.

Agree BAMF. The kid won the Morrish medal as the best player in the Coates League which is only the best Under age competition in the country. He can play and would help our connection issues which we must find a solution for.ย

I just donโt know man seems everyone is torn on him but reading your comment i immediately think of brady hough at the eagles, has sized up slightly but 50 games in granted in a struggling side i've not seen him really impact a game or show anything outside of just average footballer, but i remember thinking wow hes scrawny in his debut season. given hes 2 full seasons in without impacting the game immensely do we still go for lindsay knowing we will need to wait 3 years to judge or do we want immediate impact and see that more in allan travaglia or tauru if theyre there

Teams need all different types of players remember mostly someone has to mind a small player and be skilled enough to counter cleverness.ย
November 20, 2024Nov 20 I've come around to Lindsay. The keys to why Taylor will likely draft him is based off of what we need and what Taylor looks for. We need players who are more point of attack by foot. Lindsay has the vision and skill execution to be damaging with his disposal. I think this is the key point of difference between him and Travaglia. Taylor likes to draft players like Lindsay who can impact on bigger grounds like the MCG with their run and kicking penetration. I remember in 2019, Taylor mentioned in the draft room when we had just picked Rivers "Kicker/carrier player there, he's an MCG player". I think Windsor fits this bill and I think Lindsay does too. He could even develop into a high HF role down the line if he improves his endurance and pressure. A bit of flexibility there.
