This homesickness angle is a giant Rort! I fully believe that the element might exist, but the way it works if you are an AFL player is this, If you sign a long term contract ( like Kozzy) on good coin then you are BOUND to honour the terms of the deal.PERIOD! Freo and anyone else can park of, and Brayshaw can just shut up! Kozzy is signed for another 3 years and he is a Demon throughout! Time for players to understand and honour contracts!

The media I believe are muckraking on this one.  Interesting how the headlines were very selective about Kozzy's quote - "I'm contracted there", yet, they deliberately left out of the headline what was following - "I'm contracted there.  I'm having fun at Melbourne, I love the club."  Paints a very different perspective, doesn't it?

Also I got intel over the weekend that the texts Kozzy sent to his friends in Perth were sent last year, and was referring to playing in the indigenous team against Freo.  Again, paints a very different perspective.

Would hate to see him go and or Judd leave however if home is really where they need to be we should absolutely be getting on the Harley Reid front now.

sheez... 50 pages already, and the season is still weeks away

we're gunna have to put up with this chit all season, driven mercilessly by the the meja and flogmantle nupties

I think people have their head in the sand if they think he doesn’t want to leave. He clearly does. Where there is smoke etc.

But we don’t have to cave. He is contracted for 3 more years. He is only 23. His value to the club is huge - he is a fan fave. He is happy with the club itself and this is not the first time he has had homesickness (for WA, rather than SA this time). We know that his family is well supported in Melbourne (sure, he would probably have better support in WA). And he seemingly only wants to go to Freo, which is very different to Nibbler and Houston. His mates Walters and Narkle will probably be done at Freo this year or next. And what does Freo have to offer? Two picks around 15-18. No thanks.

The club simply has to make a stand and not cave to the media. Keep supporting him to stay in Melbourne happy, as he was when he signed the contract, with lots of opportunities to visit family and friends. I think Peter Rhode is his manager (?) so not in one of those big management groups who pressure clubs into dealing contracted players.

If Judd leaves I can see him in west coast colours more than Freos. Harley and Judd are very close I believe? Have seen them around Melbourne in the off season together a few times. If Kozzy wants out and we get a good deal and Judd wants to stay would you send some picks to the eagles for Harley or take it to the draft?

There were texts about both and since when has Kossie known he was in the Ind Stars side not till relatively recently.

Surely some are out bounds and  little stoppage of some would not be out of order.

Who is running this show ?

Us MFC and not Kossie.

I Tjink he is old enough to know what not to text and respect the other players and MFC people and fans.

For what it's worth I'm gonna go with @Dannyz summing up of the situation and expect he'll be out the door at seasons end. Anything else will be a bonus.

Players were named as early as December last year, including Kozzy  https://www.fremantlefc.com.au/news/1705299/huge-names-join-afl-indigenous-all-stars-team-as-tickets-go-on-sale

Strangely seeing Kane throw his name into this only makes me feel better. His mail, his intuition, and a lot of his analysis has been shown to be way off base. Oliver is the best and most recent example, his word was that Oliver will never get back to full fitness and his broken, and that we should trade him for a packet of chips.

Cheers for cheering me up Kane!

EDIT: He was also pushing hard the agenda that he was going to go to Port last season and this season. In footy scuttlebutt I would trust my dog's intuition over his.

I like Kane Cornes analysis but his trade predictions are usually miles off. undermines his good work in other areas.

With what currency Kane??

Haven’t you heard SWYL, It’s not the media’s job to come up with plausible trades, just announce that someone is gone

He doesn’t think that far ahead……………or is it that he simply doesn’t think?

Kane Cornes is the world's only living brain donor.

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

A month is a long time in AFL football. The proof of this is in the current state of the two teams contesting against each other early this Saturday afternoon at the MCG. It’s hard to fathom that when Melbourne and Fremantle kicked off the 2025 season, the former looked like being a major player in this year’s competition after it came close to beating one of the favourites in the GWS Giants while the latter was smashed by Geelong to the tune of 78 points and looked like rubbish. Fast forward to today and the Demons are low on confidence and appear panic stricken as their winless streak heads towards an even half dozen and pressure mounts on the coach and team leadership.  Meanwhile, the Dockers have recovered their composure and now sit in the top eight. They are definitely on the up and up and look most likely winners this weekend against a team which they have recently dominated and which struggles to find enough passages to the goals to trouble the scorers. And with that, Fremantle will head to the MCG, feeling very good about itself after demolishing Richmond in the Barossa Valley with Josh Treacy coming off a six goal haul and facing up to a Melbourne defence already without Jake Lever and a shaky Steven May needing to pass a fitness test just to make it onto the field of play.

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
