Some of you are in deep denial. That interview is like the worst possible version of ā€œcontracted player wants trade but can’t openly say it.ā€

him saying he’s contracted doesn’t mean he’s not trying again this year, it literally just means it’s the only thing he can actually say in this situation. Other players have played it much better. Talk about how excited they sure to build and grow with the club/have success etc.

Unfortunately, we may have to sell our stocks while at a premium and our returns won't be compromised by the introduction of the tassie team. Jt and co will be all over it know doubt.

Freo are hell bent on getting Kozzie, that is an understatement (Kozzie also seems hell bent on getting there). He’ll get there as thats the football landscape nowadays.

However, if Freo think they can lowball us on a trade they are seriously mistaken, given the length of Kozzies contract. We hold the cards and will get adequate compensation for him, whenever that will be.

Just my opinion- I think we need to be resigned to the fact that Kozzie will be at Freo next year and the introduction of the 2 year future draft pick will get a trade over the line, in my opinion. It won’t be overs but we’ll have some first round capital to play with prior to Tassie.

The Neal-Bullen trade sets a precedent to the contracted cohort of the playing list that we’ll get you home under humane reasons.

We’ll be far the worse side without him as he provides such a point of difference.

ah, the mfcss is strong in you...

he stays, he stays; he goes, he goes - we won't be unrewarded if he does choose to go, and flagmantle continue to pay a fortune to put together a side that...has made finals once in longmuir's five completed seasons in charge

there's no point worrying about something that MIGHT happen when there's a full season to come

ANB is closer to the end than the start, Kozzie still has his best years ahead of him. If he goes he goes but I'll be ropeable if we don't get value for him.

I think this looks different.
Tracc and Oliver, allegedly, wanted to move because they were unhappy with the culture but are both from Victoria. Kozzy wants to move for cultural reasons which we may not agree but are real for him.
The bottom line is we do have this year to convince him that Melbourne is where he should play his footy but from what I do know (and on the topic I’ll confess that is a lot and probably more than I should be posting in the open forums) he wants this move for reasons it would be hard to humanely not make possible.

The club keeping him for this year is a serious credit to how much he loved and respect Goodwin

Any other player would’ve forced a move in the circumstances

the question is what can Freo give, but knowing Melbourne were very easy to deal with in situations like this

We could probably condense this thread;

Kossie wants to go

Kossie isn’t going anywhere

There is a story that he he is homesick

He cant go - we’ll hold him to his contract, we hold the power

Future trading changes might help Freo satisfy us in a trade

Doesnt matter Kossie isn’t going anywhere

and repeat

Players don’t normally Force moves they ask !

And Kossie  is only in his second year of a 4 year contract. Melb does not have to jump at Kossies request like they refused Harry Petty and he resigned a year later.

I am not sure of your Goodwin/ Kossie relationship  being any tighter than many others to say that he only stayed because of that.

Unless of course you have insider knowledge to this fact.

It will play out over this season but to be honest I am sick of it already and wish it was a closed  matter till after the end of The season and trade time,

He’s homesick for Darwin so wants to sign for Freo. That makes zero sense to me. What am I missing?

and two years ago kornes was saying he was homesick for the pear

i think the medja just goes "indigenous player? must want to be in sa...no wait...wa! hang on, maybe it's the nt?"

It's pretty disrespectful to both MFC and teammates to go on a liking spree of a rivals supporter page.
It's a bizzare way to go about moving clubs. Nobody forced him to sign a 4 year deal.
I haven't seen this kind of entitled , obnoxious, and ungrateful behaviour since.... October last year.

But seriously, Why does this sort of stuff rarely happen at some clubs, but has been a yearly occurrence at the MFC of recent ?

Pretty damning interview.

I applaud his honesty tbh. But it’s abundantly clear that he wants out.

I suppose we have 6 months to convince him to change his mind.

Deez21 never said the bond between Goody and Kozzie is the only reason Kozzie is staying. But you’d better believe…it’s a massive part of his reason to stay. The strength and value of their relationship shouldn’t be underestimated. It’s so clichĆ© I know but Goody is like a Dad to Koz.

On another point (not in answer to you 58er, just in general), I wouldn’t read too much into Kozzie’s answer in that interview (I have to do my time). He’s an introvert and always will be therefore his uncomfortableness with this sort attention (public interview) will always be manifested in awkward responses.

edit: His response ā€œI’m contracted to Melbourneā€ is clearly a manager-driven reply IMHO. Similar to Vines when asked in a post-match interview about staying at Melbourne (not considering a move to North) where he knee-jerked ā€œYesā€ quickly followed by ā€œwe’ll see how it goesā€ as if his manager’s advice on what to say came to his mind a second too late. 😁

One of the brother boys told me Kozzie is just stirring the pot. If that’s true, awesome. But someone needs to school Koz on what’s funny and what’s not.

I said the other day that someone in the media should call him out on his posts and they did just that. For someone that doesn't like attention he has a funny way of trying to avoid it.

Don't forget RDB bolted in the middle of the night and we got nothing except 57 years of grief. At least in modern times there is the fig leaf of compensation...

Freo signing Dudley reeks of complete desperation by them.

If they're desperate, then they can cough up two early first round picks as a starting point.

What if it's just a switch & bait set up by Koz to get all his relatives onto an AFL list with Freo being the perennial rubes? Now that would be funny!

Bobby Hill is now the news as he has ā€œparkedā€ his contract with reports that he is keen to get back to WA. His contract which is not a big $ one finishes in 2026. Let’s see how the media covers this one …

Bit of a whinge, but if he does end up going it's pretty heartbreaking for our supporter base more than anything. A difference maker, unpredictable, incredibly skilful with the discipline and application to match. About to hit his absolute prime age and maturity, getting physically stronger and on track as one of the best small forwards of all time.

Like Jackson at 3, no one else had the balls to pick him at 12 and if they replayed that draft today I can guarantee no one would have touched him before 15. We took the risk.

We've subsequently potentially over invested (relative to players with lesser needs) in his wellbeing, connections back home and overall happiness.

He's been a champion for us and it's his life, you can't begrudge him for making a decision for family - but it will be gut wrenching to see him turn it on for another team. He's our special player - someone the opposition genuinely fears and cannot contain.

Would just suck so much to lose him right in his prime

Wish we had of landed Nick Watson now 😭 We tried hard. In fact, this whole situation re Kozzy’s departure may have been sensed back then, hence why we went crazy and offered pick 6 + a future first to move up to Hawthorn’s pick (pick 4) and grab him. Would’ve ended up being pick 6 and the pick we used on Langford, wild !

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

A few years ago, the Melbourne Football Club produced a documentary about the decade in which it rose from its dystopic purgatory of regular thrashings to the euphoria of a premiership victory. That entire period could have been compressed in a fast motion version of the 2025 season to date as the Demons went from embarrassing basket case to glorious winner in an unexpected victory over the Dockers last Saturday. They transformed in a single week from a team that put in a pedestrian effort of predictably kicking the ball long down the line into attack that made a very ordinary Bombers outfit look like worldbeaters into a slick, fast moving side with urgency and a willingness to handball and create play with shorter kicks and by changing angles to generate an element of chaos that yielded six goals in each of the opening quarters against Freo.

  • NON-MFC: Round 07

Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
