Gulden is a gun kick, which Windsor is far from. Hope Windsor can improve on that front.

Fair call.

Windsor was touted as an elite kick as a draftee. Based on that i was a tad disappointed in his kicking last year.

I think he will be 'bin'...1st year player, his kicking was a bit inconsistent.

You would expect that with the increase of pressure in the game.

Yep, agree. Though his technique is not text book - he has a bit of the tracc high ball drop.

But he is often kicking when running flat out, which makes it harder to nail kicks.

Very coachable and driven, so I agree he'll improve.

Kid is a total gun.

Aside from gis obvious talent, he has something else about him too -at the risk of sounding wanky, he has an elite mindset.

He will make the most of his talent and improve his game year on year.

There was an example of his focus, and the standards he sets for himself in a game at the g, i can't recall which.

He missed a set shot with a shank. He had another opportunity from a similar spot and was really deliberate in his set up. Nailed it.

The club deserves massive kudos for a rebuild whilst noone was watching.

At some point early next season top end draft talent from the last two drafts in the Duke, Kolt, Langford and XL will play together.

The last time we had that sort of young talent playing together was tracc (but not 'till his second year because of his acl), clarry,  viney and gus a decade ago when we were cellar dwellers.

And unlike those four, the new fantastic four are coming into a side that boasts premiership players,  players with mutiple AA blazers and a raft of 21 -23 year old guns like koz, jvr, mcvee and Turner (who is my tip for our break out player).

Exciting times.

Really? His kicking looked pretty good to me.

Could this be your new ‘Swallow’ binners? Repeat for 1 minute on the hour …… “Lindsay….Lindsay….Lindsay…..Lindsay…..”. Guaranteed cure in 2 to 3 days. 😎

Brain don't fail me now....

I think i'll stick with the somewhat ironic (given his size) XL

There's a lot of hope involved and I rarely make big projections but if we had a Demonland award for 'Most Promising' then the Duke, the Kolt, XL & Harv's would all be vying for the award

Who would be favourite?  Langford?

1. Windsor 2. Langford 3. Lindsay 4. Kolt

I get given the list of the final rating of all Draftees by an AFL club the morning of the draft.
This particular club didn’t have a selection on night one, in fact, weren’t particularly active in the Draft this year due to trading players in.

They rated Jagga Smith the best player in the Draft.  In fact, 6 of their 8 analysts who watch Coates league games, rated Smith 1.
In their “aggregated” ratings list they had Smith 1, Ashcroft 2, Langford 3.
They had Murphy Reid a lot higher than he went, Taj Hotton a bit higher, and Travaglia a bit lower than he went.
They rated Xavier Lindsay right about where he got picked.
They tried to get up the board to get Ollie Hannaford, but couldn’t do a deal.
Interestingly, they classified Riak Andrew & Ricky Mentha as not Draftable.

Spoke to someone high up at the Power and they do not do draft analysis on other top picks.

They said that if it's true Lindsay went where he did, and he's not a top 5 pick, the only explanation would be it's the greatest crop of mids you'll see. He'd be a top 5 mid in any other draft

Also, what does this mean? Did he not go where he did? 😅

If he goes mid to late 1st round it must be a ripper draft crop for mids is my interpretation, i.e would go higher in weaker midfield drafts

Surprised this hasn't been highlighted more. For all the Tim Lamb criticism, he has done a stellar job in this, no doubt with input from others in the FD. I don't know about premierships, but we have the makings of a team that can remain competitive for the next decade.

Also a raft of players to fill supporting roles. If players like AMW, Brown, Howes and of course Jefferson can consolidate themselves as AFL players, the foundations will have been laid.

That’s going very early, it’s only the 4th December.

Add Chandler, Woey Jnr and Doggy Brown Jnr to that list IMHO.

Sharp is also one that could be in the mix if he can take then next step, secure a regular spot in the team and leverage his great athletisim to fill the ANB role - be it in a younger body, so again more generational rebuild.

For a side with our record in 21-23, bringing in essentially 4 top 10 picks is great work.

The list management and drafting team are terrific at identifying picks they want and dealing to get the draft capital they need. Its very hard to do when you have 17 other teams trying to do the same thing

We are also somewhat lucky that our nadir years 2019 and 2024 have coincided with years we haven’t traded our top draft pick the year before.

A point that rarely gets mentioned!

We seem to have our better years when we don't own a first round pick funnily enough

Forgive me if this has already been mentioned, but if Langford does indeed get picked round 1 it will be a major early career test of his character. His 19th birthday is the night before, and it is a saturday night.

Postponing birthday celebrations for one night isn’t exactly a major test. The big test will be whether he gets a kick in round 2!

Like a good last of contract year!!

At 19 you can get toasted and still play well the following afternoon. 😂

  • PREVIEW: Sydney

The two teams competing at the MCG on Sunday afternoon have each traversed a long and arduous path since their previous encounter on a sweltering March evening in Sydney a season and a half ago. Both experienced periods of success at various times last year. The Demons ran out of steam in midseason while the Swans went on to narrowly miss the ultimate prize in the sport. Now, they find themselves outside of finals contention as the season approaches the halfway mark. The winner this week will remain in contact with the leading pack, while the loser may well find itself on a precipice, staring into the abyss. The current season has presented numerous challenges for most clubs, particularly those positioned in the middle tier. The Essendon experience in suffering a significant 91-point loss to the Bulldogs, just one week after defeating the Swans, may not be typical, but it illustrates the unpredictability of outcomes under the league’s present set up.

  • REPORT: Brisbane

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.

Just a game and percentage outside the Top 8, the Demons return to Melbourne to face the Sydney Swans at the MCG, with a golden opportunity to build on the momentum from toppling the reigning premiers on their own turf. Who comes in, and who makes way?
