    Second rounder? Not likely. Cal says top 10 and I think he's right, who knows, could go as high as 6! He's raw, but there's very kids who have his combination of reading of the ball in flight, athleticism and physicality.

    Thought I was being a bit optimistic 😂 He does look like a real good one imo and would love to add him to our list 

    Question is whether we need a pure midfielder more - he may even be capable of midfield such is his mobility 

    Anyway I’m sure JT knows a hell of of lot more than I do 😀

    Smillie - Pretty poor season leading into the draft

    Jagga - Size will limit his first few seasons until he can build his body

    I expect most of these players to come good but for Melbourne we probably do need someone who can play in our best 22 and have an impact their first season. I'm expecting the higher ceiling players that have more class like Jagga, O'Sullivan and Draper to go earlier to teams like Richmond, North and Westcoast who can afford to be patient and develop those guns gradually. 

    I seem to remember that Clarrie had an injury plagued year , but we took a gamble.

And in this even top-end, you could quite easily grab the top talent in the draft with the selection that Melbourne holds.     The more I see of players in the pool of potential retreads, the more I favour us focusing on the draft rather than to pick up duds from other clubs. 

    I’m hoping we get three picks in the top 25.

    It's looking like a bad year to have the number 1 pick (compared to other recent years)

    Skinny, small-shouldered guys are riskier. They may not develop or not be able to physically compete in the AFL. Weights can only do so much.  I would not be picking Jagga if I was the Tigers

    Jagga will be fine. It will take some time for the body to develop but when you've got this many tools in terms of pure skill and agility he'll be able to carve out a role pretty early on. 

    I remember Walsh coming in super skinny as a no.1 pick and has filled out well over the years.

    Jagga's ability to use the ball and relocate quickly as an option are Daicos like. He's going to be a gun.

    Skip the first half of those highlights and you can then see some pretty good albeit raw talent. Be a confusing forward line with Roo and Tarau in there though. ROOOs everywhere

    you could well be right. But Walsh had a broader physique than Jagga does. 

    Whitfield is the closest than cones to mind. Been a very good player but no midfield gun. Toumpas and O’Rourke also come to mind. 

    I’d always go the big bodied mid with a very high pick

    Awesome,  who will be there at pick 5 and who might be there after pick 10, I reckon we need to trade for another first rd pick, whether that is trading our future first or bundle up picks for a club that will get fs/NGA.  Maybe Carlton if their FS will go that heigh

    One contested mark in that package, plenty spilled. Loves to run and tackle, excellent second efforts

    With Jagga yes he slight up top of course. But he has fantastic core/hip strength. This is why I liken him to Daicos. He has similar low centre of gravity and ability to twist and shift his hips to get out of tackles/traffic. Have a look at some of his games for Richmond in the VFL and you will see how well he's already performing around mature bodies. They simply can't catch him at times because of his ability to get out of traffic. His ability to get on the move and open up the ground is fantastic

    On your last statement I would have traditionally agreed with you. But we have the big bodied mids at the moment (Clarry, Trac, Rivers) what we desperately need is what the best midfields have now which is someone with elite agility, pace and accurate damaging ball use. We have the physical contested ball winners. What we need is an outside mid who can get out of traffic and create with excellent foot skills.

    O'Sullivan, Jagga and Draper are the three highest quality mids in this regard high agility, speed, skills and clean. Unfortunately I think all three will be picked ahead of us. If for some reason one of those slid (or we traded up) that would be amazing.

      There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

      I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

      Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions.
