Next year

Could be as soon as next year if we get the next 5 or 6 months right. There are reasons for our decline which we have some control over.  There are also reasons we have little control over. We lost by less than a kick to three highly credentialled finals teams in the last 6 or 7 weeks - Brisbane, Port and GWS. That was far from full strength/health. I completely disregard Friday's result.  6 day break off a very warm day game on the Gold Coast - a bizarre fixturing move, and missing a big number of key players. We are not far away despite all the doom and gloom. And we get a bottom 6 draw!

Hate these kind of topics, it just encourages the doomers and gloomers

Every single decision made from now until the end of pre season would have to be 100% right in order for us to contend again next year.

I agree but when you post a poll you can't turn off comments

It's a fair question but imo we are miles off now unless midfield gets back fully fit. Which is a big if unfortunately.  Even then, we have to play defence and contest football.   It's pretty obvious we don't have the list to play fast quick ball movement over 24 rounds. We will get killed on turnover every second week which is exactly what's happened all year.. Our youngsters are ok but realistically half a dozen other teams have much better.  Geelong and Sydney contend every year cause they have the two best coaches, recruit well, have 'advantages' and adaptable lists that tweak playing method game to game and year to year.  We either go all in on contest and defense again or we complete rebuild before they gift Tasmania wins. The AFL is a bit of a joke for a sporting code really.  2 cents and  a bit glass half empty I know :(

They pop up in every thread though, Loges. There’s no avoiding them. Hell, they managed to contaminate the Positives For 2024 thread and the Goody Is The Man thread.

hmmm ... let me do some maths here ...

2024 - 20121 = 3

57- 3 = 54

54 + 2024 = 2078 and there you have it

i'm going to start preparations for the big day starting tomorrow

I'm no dooma or glooma - but the sooner we rocognise that it's all the fault of Lawry and Jeffo - the sooner we can resurrect our dynasty. Written with due diffidence to Weed and Watts.

I think it’s all Houston’s fault

It's in the next 2 years or 6+ years away. No option for that so I wrote 2.

I voted 10+, not because I'm all doom and gloom, just because they are hard to win and not that many clubs win them within a shorter period of time.

Hawks, Tiges, Geelong (07-11) and Lions are the exception this century.

Collingwood - 12 years

Geelong - 11 years

WC - 12 years

Sydney - 7 years, but if they win it this year it will have been 12

Bulldogs - 8 years if they win it this year

Depends how Serious the Club want to actually get there.
it’s been said many times, but this offseason is super critical in terms of the Clubs future

Get it right and we could fly again soon

I'd reckon that it would take about five years; there is much to be settled and put into place. Our retirees will occur soon, and these players have done us proud but must be replaced. Similarly, recruitment needs great focus and a steady year by year development, with a good, across-the-field bank of talented replacements. Player development, exposure and great coaching procedures will be critical to filling the gaps we have experienced so recently. Coaching talent and depth, game styles, alternative strategies need to be established and put into place and given very high priority as part of the product of recruitment and game-day execution. We must strive for onfield mastery, nothing less. We also need that identifiable 'home' as part of the re-build to come.

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.
