I cut a lot of Footy Stories in the 80’s and 90’s for ABC News with 2-3 different journalists, and we would be working flat out most of the time to get them finished.
I just want to say, i have never come across a story like this one. This has the potential to get really nasty on quite a few levels

I have no idea how it’s going to end, usually you can see the end game.
But not this one.

My gut feel is that it's going to become so toxic that we have no choice but to move Trac on, and we'll be unlikely to get exactly the deal we'd like, though i suspect the return will still be significant.

I think we'll get 2 first round picks, and a good young player and Trac will get to one of the Blues, Pies, Bombers.

You obviously haven't received a recorded birthday message from Warwick Capper.

I emailed him a few years back (at the end of what I’m assuming was a long night), asking what his rate was to MC my birthday party.

$1.7 mill per year for part of that contract.
I didn’t realize it was that high

The MFC cannot back down on this one.
I think at this stage there is a long way to play out…

I’m a bit annoyed because if I’d paid him his 2Gs, I could have made $1100 by selling his poster and Shiraz back to him.

Also, we would have been treated to a “30 min talk” which I’m sure would have just flown by.

The fellas on Midweek tackle made an interesting few remarks relating to Trac threatening with an expose of the inner sanctum of the club and the playing group.

A two-hour sit-down with 60 Minutes could equate $ to two years of footballing.

I find that Barrett article disgusting. One thing for us fans to have opinions without knowing the full story but for a brazen character attack like that to come from the AFL media is vile.

Doesn't even matter if there might elements of truth, Trac has been one of our own and is clearly going through some sort of identity crisis in the wake of his life threatening injury.

R U ok day in 2 weeks. Can't see how anything he's done has justified that trash.

You’re pretty right, I put my hand up as enjoying that article but only because it was a reflection about how so many people are now seeing this situation. It was relatable. For better or worse, fact or media beat up, right or wrong that is really how lots of people, including many Melbourne supporters, are now feeling about where this all sits.

I agree it’s not right and it’s probably pure media beat up where it sits right now, it’s just amazing how much legs this thing has got off of nothing but media reports that could be complete [censored]. Pretty horrible really.

Preseason is going to be pretty awkward for ole Trac

If the story about him forcing a trade via the afl grievance tribunal is true we will almost certainly get screwed, what team will offer market if he can just break his contract and walk.

Interesting that all this nuke option etc is being thrown around while he is out with teammates having a drink.
If it was truly this bad would he be out with them?

I mean would he even be allowed to have a drink with his injuries?

If this gets through we should shut up shop and play Amos 4th division next year!

Get him out.

If we force him to stay, he'll bugger off to Europe for the year and get paid to do nothing as he "recovers", then request a trade to the Pies at the end of season 2025.

Trade him now.

Get: 11, 31, Future 1st, Future 2nd and Adam Cerra

Give: Petracca (and his full contract)

That'll do.

Goodbye.

Damien Barrett:

Of the remaining five years of Petracca's contract with Melbourne, his annual wage will peak at $1.7 million a year, and not fall below $1.2 million a year

Me:

I doubt any club will take that on,especially with all his baggage,it's just not worth it.

These are huge numbers. We are spending 10% of the cap on 1 player.

you are correct that no club would take this on especially with the risk of his injury and potential personality issues

And people were questioning why Petracca was happy to sign his last contract. 1.7mil a year is crazy.

Only Carlton's lawyer could win at the Grievance Tribunal.

Have to say whoever is pushing that as a course of action needs to rethink.

If he goes, How good would the old Luke Hodge kiss of death from Gawn to Tracc on GF day be? (Assuming we beat whoever he plays for).

He’s off to Europe soon, for how long I don’t know but it feels like the opportunity for mediation is soon to disappear.

My worst case scenario (which feels increasingly likely) is this remains a stalemate all through the trade period and we have a pre-season (another) where any form of progress is stifled by confusion and tension with a star player. It’ll ruin our trade period and it is likely to ruin our pre-season.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
