  • Demonland changed the title to PREGAME: Rd 21 vs Western Bulldogs

IN: Jefferson, Tholstrup
OUT: Billings, Turner?

Laurie was okay, play him for the rest of the year, time to see what we've got for 2025

Kolt in for Billings.  Maybe Woey to the bench with Disco in?

Bowey on thin ice I reckon.

Anyone see enough of Casey to say Sparrow could get back?   Anyone else there knocking down the door?   Howes???

Howes or Hore for Woewodin?

Not sure about the rest, midfield needs some class and talent in there but not sure where it's going to come from.

Let's get a few games into Jeffo. See what he's made of

Didn't watch the VFL bur I'd be happy to play Jefferson for the rest of the year.

Finals is gone, let's continue to get games into Tholstrup, Laurie, AMW and Jefferson.

OUT Bowey (ordinary all year)

Woewodin (not good enough)

Billings(gives nothing)

Petty (Woeful season)

IN Howes, Tholstrop, K Brown & Jefferson

I'd consider resting TMac, Woey and Billings. Sparrow, Kolt and Jefferson in. Put Petty back.

I hope they put some games into them. Billings has to go!

I’ve been thinking the past couple of weeks that this would be the best way to give Jeffo a game. Tmac wasn’t great tonight but he has been good. Manage him for a game or two and put Petty back where I think we will need him most next year.

Bowey has to go, and Sparrow can't be given a ride straight back in.

Out - anyone that needs surgery to be fit for a full pre season

In - don’t give AF

Bowey and Billings both have to be dropped.

Bowey's offering us absolutely nothing good right now. His kicking has gone to water, his decision-making not far behind.

Billings just isn't what we need.

Sparrow might come straight back - not sure that's right, but I'd probably prefer it to giving Bowey or Billings another game.

Worried about Windsor copping an injury in that final tackle of the game. Hope he's alright.

If Billings plays a game for the dees again I'll give up altogether joke of a footballer.

IN : Tholstrup, Hore, Howes

OUT: Billings, Bowey, Woewodin

For Sparrow to come straight back in would be pointless, there are obviously a few things he needs to keep working at. Considering the leniency he received for so long, however, I wouldn't be surprised if he did.

Dogs have a 5 day break into this one which is handy I guess.

Have we played a team off a 5 day break this year? As in the oppo, not us?

I'd go a double change down back with Hore and Howes in for AMW and Woey.

Woey has a dip but he's just not very good.

AMW is the most lost footballer I've seen wear red and blue for a long time and he's not getting any better. Zero defensive accountability.

I know Bowser is struggling but he at least has some talent and awareness of how to position himself.

Otherwise Billings for Kolt I guess.

Probably stick with Disco as sub for another week.

Very little of Jefferson's game screams ready to impact at AFL level. I don't think there's much to gain for getting AFL games in to his right now, not in this side anyway.

I was there Dazz and Jeffo was fantastic in the wet with 17 disposals. Could, should have kicked more goals, but his wet weather contested marking was magnificent and his ground ball gets, tackling and intelligent, intuitive handballs/ tap ons, were brilliant! He simply must play for the rest of the season IMV! Anyone else who was there want to back this observation up??

Thanks Pickett.

I'd get him in next week. We have nothing to lose now and giving him a taste of senior footy will hold him in good stead going into pre season of what the expectations are.

I would love to see Sestan given the chance to prove himself at senior level.

Knowing that we’re not going to do anything meaningful this year, I wonder if it’d be better for us to not make finals to give ourselves the best chance for 2025? 2021 was built off a full pre-season. I’m not sure if a first or second week finals loss is going to do anything for this group.

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
