PREGAME: Rd 19 vs Fremantle

Recommended Posts

Well i've done a 180 from thinking we are no chance to thinking we have a red hot chance.  Alice Springs was an anomoly.

Freo have not really beaten anyone good at home since round 1. They have had some good wins on the road

Go in hard and keep our defensive structure and we have a real chance.  We do need someone agile to keep tabs on LJ

Er, yeah, because it features Dogga taking charge?

I like my revisionist history of that time, where historically it was spoken about how instinctive Jackson was, and what leadership it was by him, "he is such a unicorn".

On further reflection, and inspection,  it was clearly the Dogs midfield positioning (looking at you Bont and Treloar) which Melbourne as a team capitalised on, it could even have been Mark Jamar rucking (no disrespect) and the ball still would have been fed out to our marauding midfielders.

The mythology of Jackson rests on him merely being at the right place at the right time, as Gawn needed a rest.*

Yeah if we'd stuck Gawn in there as planned we probably would've kicked 15 goals!

Completely disagree. Jackson's spread from the centre bounce was phenomenal in that 30 second patch in the GF, and is the best ruck work I've seen at ground level ever.

Viney’s part is underrated big time in Bang, Bang, Bang.

Billings is in as the sub.

Don't love it but not sure what else we have.

Woey injured with a bad corky.

Billings had 32 disposals and two goals in the VFL last week.

Played well. Laurie did too, so a tad unlucky.

Goody proved the afl world wrong with not playing a genuine ruck last week but Jackson & Darcy will have a field day, It’s obvious Fullerton can’t ruck in Goodwin  eyes, very weird

I can't recall a game in recent memory where we are playing a side that literally has all of its best 23 available.

How fortunate are Fremantle going.

Edit - Johnson's out injured...

Well Laurie may as well ask for a trade now as the club clearly doesnt rate him. Been in the bests for nearly every game he's played over the past two months and was a clear best on last week. He's never had more than two games in a row this year (one as sub as well) so he's never been given a good crack at it. Meanwhile Tholstrup, McAdam and Billings all get extended stints in the AFL team off far inferior form. Must be frustrating more or less carrying the VFL team and seeing a teammate have one half decent game and leap frog into the seniors.

St Kilda earlier this year. They had 0 on the injury list when we played them.

Relax y’all… chalk Sunday up as a win.

Aside from the fact that we’re the better team, and we’re riding a wave of confidence and belief, there’s this other compelling reason…

I’ve never experienced a loss at an interstate ground when it’s the first time being there. Sunday will be the first time I attend the ground at which the mighty Dees won the 🏆

Y’all are very welcome!
😁

PS: Heads up, WA: Loud and annoying (and indefatigable) Demons psycho incoming!

Well I certainly hope you have a much better experience than my first game there.

It's not weird when you consider that Fullerton is a forward who can ruck, not a stand alone ruckman, and his VFL form has been lacking. Max is great at hitouts but it's what he offers around the ground that has the most impact and what we miss most as a team. Petty might not be great in the middle, but he can mark around the ground and have influence there. Roo is competitive in the middle. Fullerton, is not great at either of these things, which is why he has not been picked.

What are you, a Camel??

I am registered as an in-flight emotional support camel for tax purposes, so there is some pressure on to keep up appearances.

To be fair, I've never done a pacific crossing and I'm also putting off a Europe trip until there's an available stopover location which isn't a major slave market or Perth.

Billings back in. Hmmmm Hasn’t shown really anything when he has played. Lucky to be back in. Skills poor. Goalkicking poor. Tackling non existent.

Laurie contracted though to end 2026 for some reason. Looks to slow and uncontested for AFL midfield role and we have plenty of small forwards already.  He’s a VFL standard player.

Tholstrup is the future.  He’s going to be very very good.

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int

The Dees played insipid, error riddled & uninspiring footy all night and in a lightning delayed match they eventually succumbed to Collingwood by 46 points at the MCG in the final game of the year. Thank God this season is finally over. Bring on 2025.
