AMW getting subbed off was purely about fitness. We had a lot of kids running on a very heavy track. I expected us to run out of gas to be honest.
Did not help making the sub and then immediately losing Rivers for 10 minutes to a shoulder jab and strap.

Also McVee running rings around Porky Stringer was delightful.

I don't know why they didn't put Stringer into the centre after half time. He was doing nothing forward. I only saw him on the ball in the last 15 mins

This is exactly what I thought - it can’t be true. Can it?!?

It happened with North too. I’d like to think it’s not intentional from the umpires. Maybe when the momentum shifts the umpires just get sucked in.

My only negative is that they subbed the wrong player off. How Bowey kept playing when AMW was actually playing well is beyond.

Bowey is a huge worry for me moving forward alongside Petty and Sparrow.

Judd McVee out marking Lance Whitnall was the highlight for me on too of many others of course.  Kid is a serious talent.

Bowser lost some bad contests and didn’t use it as well as he could but AMW was spent and creating huge defensive holes with his lack of concentration and work rate. Absolutely the right guy to take off.

Bowser playing like a guy who had a bad injury and couldn’t do weights for a long time. I’m not too worried, although the life of an undersized defender is that you better be on your game or it gets rough quickly.

Special praise for Van Rooyen for outstanding effort in  the ruck, which helped turn the tide after Petty's woeful first-quarter effort.

Add Petty's underwhelming performances as a forward and his trade value must have dropped by at least 50 per cent this season.

Maybe he  needs to return to the backs to move his game forward.

Sarah Black on the AFL site is a very good football journo/analyst.

She didn’t have McVee in her best 6 players.

Seriously?

The umpires tried to snatch it in the end, but no dice!!

GREAT WIN! My takeaways:

- I think we saw a rebirth for the team against the Lions. Great pressure for the whole game. Intense. Belief.

- The kids are the future. Disco kicking big goals, McVee’s skills in the wet, Kozzie doing things only he can. Rivers continues to step up. Windsor had another cracker. Great vision and speed. Kolt, love his grit.

- WITHOUT Trac and Gawn. No axtual ruck. This is our character.

- The bombers are FRAUDS and CHEATS! I’m glad we helped to show them up and help them back down the ladder (although their soft draw will continue to help).

- How good was Langdon?

- How missed was Melksham??

Great night, always love beating these mugs. Only disappointment was not winning by 40+ but I can live that that.

HERE WE COME!!!! 🔥💙❤️

Cracker post.

Windsor is fire

Every time I see him take off along that wing, I see Robbie Flower. The resemblance is astonishing.

OK I'm in london & just saw the scores. Oh my god I'm so happy.

How did we win this?

How did we go in the ruck?

Maybe we need to trust goody and his plans.

Go dees. What a weekend,  pies lose and so do the bummers

We suffocated them most of the game. Typical Melbourne type game.

Petty tried but got beat, JVR went to the ruck and did very well.

Agree amw was great in every contest. Bowey , Salem or sparrow should have been subbed

Picket fence right behind him. Haven't seen him on this thread yet.

Fence has already posted on this thread. Blow me down with a feather - it was another broken record post about bringing in Jefferson, just like the other three hundred.

I swear there used to be a story every preseason that the package has got himself fit and is going to dominate this year… then he never did and he never did and they’ve finally stopped writing those articles.

So we kept stringer goaless. Who was on him?

Hope we use this confidence & win to beat freo next week

McVee.

At the game today, that Windsor goal was out-[censored]-rageous skill in those conditions, I doubt the TV replays will do it justice.

Some other thoughts: Melksham has made such a difference that I'm starting to think his ACL might have cost us a flag. Disco Turner is kicking for my life no doubt about it. McVee is unbeatable. It was great to see Jake Lever so invested and celebrating appropriately on the siren. May is as stiff as a board but still playing great.

And finally, 22 is an actual disgrace. I generally don't like to mention them but he deserves a special mention. Some of his decision making defied logic.

Just got home from a nice evening out and about to watch the replay.

Fantastic result and well done to Goodwin and the coaching team.

Go Dees!!

I don’t mind putting the queue in the rack late in games, as long as you pick up a fricking baseball bat and brain the opposition.
Almost needed some of ET’s medication.

Collingwood lose, Carlton lose, Essendon lose and the mighty Demons WIN!

It's the quintessential quadrella of quality.  Woo hoo!

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
