I would try and prize him out with as much as we can afford, would make us a premiership threat again next year

Is there a different Peter Wright?

I like Wright but he has been poor this year and average last year.  Even dropped this year when the bombers have few tall fwds

If he gets his head right he is a quality mark and straight kick for a big man

Bombers would want a fair bit for him and he would want a big contract being 28 soon

Where are those blokes with all the inside Goss on trade targets? I want a left fielder

Deven Robertson signed a 2 year deal at Brisbane last year but finds himself stuck in the twos. Only played 2 AFL games this year.

He had 36 touches and 13 clearances in the VFL on the weekend. He has struggled in the AFL but I wonder if that's the role he needed to play.

He will find it tough to crack into Brisbane before finals, and with another Ashcroft coming, he will find himself even further down the pecking order in 2025.

We know that Jason Taylor was extremely disappointed to miss him on draft day. Wonder if we're looking at him again.

He's from WA and the Eagles went after him last year, but they'll be giving up picks to get Baker from Richmond.

I'd be interested in looking at Stengle if he's gettable. Would be nice to have a small forward that can actually crumb, and is disciplined enough to sit front and square. What we'd give to have Toby Bedford back right now.

Looking for a good pre-season from Spargo too.

I respectfully disagree. However what concerns me is that this is the type of trade Tim Lamb will probably get done. Follows in the same style as Hunter, McAdam, Billings etc.

One key criteria is a player that is playing more than 80% gametime in the AFL in 2024 and is < 28. Even its just for depth and role playing, this is an absolute must.

good player stuck behind some guns.  would be a good get and some class.

Is PW the sort that could play that second ruck role @Pennant St Dee?

Probably and up until this year was going well at Essendon, has he fallen away due to them now being to tall or are is his workfare questionable. I wouldn’t be selling the farm for him

BTW Is there any way to search within the topic you’re currently viewing (it could save me asking questions that have already been answered)?

Robertson has some attributes, but class ain't one of them.

Which is why he's playing twos.

We cannot give up 2 firsts for Houston. 1 pick, take it or leave it. If they don't accept that then we take a star mid in the draft and pick up Cumming, Perryman or another half back for far far less. If we finish 13th and then somehow miss finals again next year, we could end up giving up pick 6 and roughly pick 10. No player in the history of the game has ever been traded for that much.

If we were getting prime Buddy or Dusty then sure, but we aren't. I love Houston as a player and think he would fit in well but, we must stick fat and not sacrifice the future. He's also nearly 28.

It could be a Taranto and Hopper situation if things don't go well. Not worth it imo.

This is my ideal scenario:

Draft:
- Top 6 pick

Trade:
- Future first for Waterman and their 3rd rounder
- 2nd rounder and Eagles 3rd for Peter Wright (he’s on the outer)
- Josh Battle Free agent

Summary:

In:
- Waterman
- Peter Wright
- Battle
- Pick 6
- Eagles 3rd rounder

Out
- Future first
- 2nd rounder
- Eagles 3rd rounder

Battle is an undersized key defender.

too many talls maybe?

wright's form has completely abandoned him

waterman would be great, i think, but i'm convinced that the talk of him leaving is purely managerial manoeuvring to get a decent contract uplift now in his pre-agency year

Yes,too many talls. Back up ruck is a must but we need midfielders,  midfielders, midfielders!!

We just don't seem to draft any 200cm+ players....

At least Petty at 197cm is close and hopefully we get back to playing him in his best position... DEFENDER

We are apparently looking at Eagles’ Harry Edwards who is a key back and 204 cms.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
