You don't think having Max, the best ruckman of the last 20 years if not of all time playing in his best position would be a better option?

Max is not and never has been a forward, that's in part why the Grundy experiment didn't work.

He may well be best in last x years but a closer look at his tap work going to our players consistently might make you stop and take another look.⁹

Good luck to him, I’m happy for him, not once has he bagged our club for the disgraceful way our coach treated him last year.

We have been a shambles since 2021

And not once have Melbourne bagged him. If he was to open his mouth they’d be plenty coming back the other way.

He had 17 chances to impress the coaches and it never worked. Goody gave him a lot longer run than it deserved really.

Should never have been ours to trade.

We were blinded by arrogance and thought we could replicate 21.

It caused a lot of division internally and will be discussed a lot as a part of the review of footy ops.

Is this your opinion or rumour? Your post doesn't make any sense.

It caused a lot of division internally and will be discussed a lot as a part of the review of footy ops. Certain players and coaches were not onboard with the acquisition of Grundy.

It’s not my opinion.

This is a crazy take. Gawn has set a ridiculously high standard and expectation for ruck output. Grundy was more than serviceable. If you look at the past two seasons I'd argue our best patches of football in that period came when both Grundy and Gawn were playing.

Ultimately we chose to maximise Gawn's output in the hope of replicating match-winning performances in 2021. Grundy in the team impacted Gawn's output. I think the handling of Grundy has less to do with what he did, and more to do with what Gawn couldn't.

It is pure crazy talk to say that Grundy's performance alone relegated him to the VFL. It's just not based in reality. And yes I am suggesting we went down the path of preferencing the performance and prefences of the individual than what was best for the team.

There is no connection with Melbourne anymore.

true, layz.   Brodie Grundy the ex-collingwood, salary-dumped player is gone

How about the shape he was in when he turned up for preseason and was right down the back in the running?

Or how bad he was in his positioning even with basic around the ground work rate in the ruck?

Or his initial form when sent back to Casey?

He was never serious about fighting for his spot, the moment he lost it he was off elsewhere.

The problem with this type of analysis of list management is that the player motives and opposition club enticements are never factored in. It's a very simplistic view that can be summarized as... "Jordan showed signs of being a good AFL player... MFC list management didn't see his worth... Club shipped him out to first buyer that kicked his tyres!" There are many other considerations when it comes to list management in the 'Cap' years! Every other club would have similar stories to tell about the ones that got away as they try to crystal ball future list improvements/team balance. MFC list management has been very good in recent times. It was pivotal in breaking the drought. It has kept us in top four contention up to the final rounds of 2024. That's not to say it has been perfect, but credit where credit is due would make your concerns much more relevant/readable!

Yes, but we replaced them with Casey regulars.
So I consider it a shocking fail as far as list management goes

I think Brody is the Swans' biggest weakness next weekend. Longmire will hope that they play Geelong rather than Brisbane. I thought Sweet monstered Brody tonight. The Swans were smashed in clearance.

And then the Big O does his shoulder. Grundy is blessed - oh well, over to you Darcy Fort.

Fort may as well just knee Grundy the moment he runs over to do some grapple "ruck work" at the opening bounce. They won't need him for the first few months next year anyway.

Bodie Grundy was useless today in the Grand Final.

But he has a lot of team mates in the same boat.

Swans sh*t the bed against the Lions!

How many GF losses does that make it now?
Been close to premiership success, but seems destined never to win one

And I thought that Darcy Fort did a great job, though I feel very sorry for the ex-Casey player, Big O.

Ummh Brody was actually their best player, not that that is saying a lot. Won the hit outs and at 3 quarter time he was leading the Swans for disposals. He did his job. As did Jordan.

Jordon must have only had a part-time job, then.

He went missing for large chunks of the game with a mere 13 touches and four tackles.

Nah, he wasn't.  His stats looked ok but once again, played like a little man in a big man's body.  He had no impact.  Rowbottom was actually their best player, and by some margin. Grundy just piled up a bunch of fairly irrelevant handballs and took the grand total of one contested mark for the game.  The Lions would be stoked with Fort's game.

Jordon hasn't been a high possession player at the Swans all year. That's not his role. It was the Swans prime movers that let them down.

Jordon was part of a midfield that was comprehensively thrashed.

Maybe he's not the star that some here make him out to be and constantly lament his leaving?

Takes way too long to get rid of it and has very little dare in his game.

He’s reliable, and a hard worker, and he had a good moment or two in the qualifying final. But honestly he’s as vanilla as they come.
Our decline had nothing to do with him.
