It’s literally won us a flag

It did. So did Pagans Paddock. Move with the times or be left behind. Starting offence from defence is not viable anymore.

Thanks GC Dee.

I thought the 11 frees in the first was an utter disgrace.

An actual blight on the game.

Ok we played poorly but take away Mays touched ball the only one the video can't decide on and that cheating effort that got a free for dangerous tackle and we Won by two goals.

So the umpiring did cost us a game no matter how we played.

It's a absolute poor effort by the umpires tonight.

Maybe the Afls needs to ask questions about this one and how the blues lead the free kick differential by so much.

It really is disappointing to see a game ruined by such poor performances from them.

Dock their pay or check if they have betting accounts.

Yep

May's touched that ball.

Listening to BT complain about how hard it is to tell from the vision WHEN HE WORKS FOR THE NETWORK THAT THE AFL RELIES UPON TO ADJUDICATE GOAL REVIEWS.

JVRs legitimate tackle and ultimate disallowed goal.

Umpire 22 paying a htb kick against Petracca dead in front with less than a minute to go. Of course it was him ump 22.

However....

We missed some sitters.

We were horrible in the first qtr.

How does Walsh keep getting it so easy by us.

Congrats to Michael Voss. He has them playing like triple premiership lions. So tough through the midfield and the equivalent of Brown and Lepptich up forward. God help us if he gets hold of an akermanis.

The silver lining.

That second defeat may sting more than last year's final. We came back a long way under greasy conditions. We had them. We know we can smash them and underneath it all, Carlton knows it too.

Christian Petracca almost single handedly won us the game. A whole new level for him.

Billings was good.

Serious?

Billing’s was so rubbish by 3/4 time that he should’ve been subbed. He found some rhythm in the last (at last).

We need a rethink, something is not working,

in 7 games we have kicked a total of 13 goals in the first quarter.
Two games we got 4 and 5,

a number of quarters where we only scored 1 goal.
and 4 quarters where we scored no goals.

Top 4 we are delusional. His often tonight did Carlton kick a goal in the first 30 seconds of the quarter.

MFCSS   Feels like a warm coat!

Something slightly nice about that result: after the first quarter, the bags probably thought they'd catch us on points AND percentage, but, in the end, they couldn't have made any less impact on the percentage difference.

3 bad misses Fritta hit post set shot in 3rd, Petty 4th set shot and Kozi snap out on the full 10 meters out 45 degree angle.

Also Chandler 40 out on a slight angle normally nails them.

But we [censored] it in the 1st.

Im sure there were a couple more.

Enlightened me.

So was half the team, lifted in the last cool head.

👍 When Salo's back he might replace Billo though.

Ah well Ralphy just cleared Nick Newman of any penalty for his snipe. Cheers mate

So would I.

No they didn’t. We were poor for a quarter and then 2 minutes at the start of each quarter. Aside from that we were better. They finished better in front of goal. That’s the difference. But they weren’t better

This is what drives me nuts about this place lately. We get a nice little comeback at the end and people get high on the sugar hit.

I do not agree with this and won't fall for the fools gold. Carlton setup better, were first to every ball for 90% of the game, setup better behind the ball and rinsed us on goals from clearances.

I understand comebacks mask the deficiencies but there was no way we were the better team tonight thats just deluded. Happy to agree to disagree.

Dees absolutely horrible for 2.5 qtrs, had no answers for there clearance game and couldn’t hold a mark to save ourself. Took a desperation move to play Trac fwd and blues to absolutely drop the bundle by defending with over a qtr to go.

We still have massive problems at centre bounce , we look all at sea far too often

People go by results not facts, people who don't look at the game but thought one eye, we have had forward line problems since 22 and not addressed, yes we came back but the game was gone in the first half.

Yes we acknowledge that, but they faded badly in the last.

After half time they were dropping in their output.

1st half was in there complete control.

I want to give a shout out to Windsor he was in everything all night and his last goal was magic. 20 more inside 50's 2 posters and an out on the full. Bad kicking has cost us dearly

Nothing went for us in that first quarter.  Monumental effort to come back nevertheless, particularly off five days.

As for the JVR ‘free’, simply appalling decision, pandering to their fans in that pocket. And Maysie’s claim of touched?!  Even BT mentioned they made the call just before a much clearer image became available. And then the two-tier interpretation of the htb rule throughout. Thought most of ours were there to call tbh, but Carlton seemed to get that extra split second to dispose time and time again. Or just drop it.

I reckon Taj has justified a spot on the wing over Billings next week. Last 2 games have been solid, and he’s not as soft as butter

I have never been so proud of a loss.  We had no right to get anywhere near winning. To get so close was a testament to courage, character and determination. I believe this game sets us up for an absolute crack at the flag. To me, it is the most important game we have played this year.

The first quarter was inexcusable but the top of the league is so close. Blues lose to pies under a goal, we beat geelong by the skin of our teeth and lose tonight.

Swings and round abouts, we will be back.

Yes we do, I think if you don't acknowledge that your fooling yourself.

Brayshaw would have been handy running through the guts on occasion.

Only have ourselves to blame.

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
