Only ourselves to blame. Trac huge.

But it's the old forward-line woes again, it's still a work-in progress and was always going to get found out by players like Weitering.

Carlton are ordinary. We just needed someone to stop the rot in the first quarter, and sadly no one did.

Viney was the only one from start to finish. Thank goodness.

Petracca absolutely huge. Very proud of the comeback and another minute we would have won. After giving up 6 and looking completely lost it was a fantastic fight back. Not often proud of a loss but that’s as close as I’ll ever get. Umpires can eat a bag of you know what’s.

Viney, the desperation, to keep us in it, just Brilliant.

just one of those nights where we things didn’t go our way.

Left it too late.

More scoring shots.

And ultimately lost by a cheat dangerous tackle call.

Really gutted this could have been ours.

So who would you blame if he missed the goal then.

Worst 1st quarter I have seen since the Neeld era, just dont get it.

Should have beaten these clowns.

Been a work in progress for 3 years. Did love Roos and Traccs aggression forward. Petty and Fritta should watch the tape

Geez that was frustrating to watch. Diabolical for periods but whilst the margin was six goals still thought we were a chance if they tired. Then when the momentum swung our way we went back to our one wood of missing easy goals before having enough possession to win two games of football in the last quarter. Only Melbourne.

Not sure it’s the “forward line blues”. It’s more the entry into the forward half that was pathetic tonight.

Where was that urgency from the start?

Sounds stupid given a 0.0 to 5.0 first quarter but I really didn’t feel like the score reflected the effort. It was our usual arm wrestle first quarter but the score somehow didn’t reflect.

This game was a freak anomaly for mine. I write it off as a disappointing loss that we should have won and move on.

actually cheated and dudded

i [censored] hate this league

Thanks GC Dee.

I thought the 11 frees in the first was an utter disgrace.

An actual blight on the game.

Ok we played poorly but take away Mays touched ball the only one the video can't decide on and that cheating effort that got a free for dangerous tackle and we Won by two goals.

So the umpiring did cost us a game no matter how we played.

It's a absolute poor effort by the umpires tonight.

Maybe the Afls needs to ask questions about this one and how the blues lead the free kick differential by so much.

It really is disappointing to see a game ruined by such poor performances from them.

Dock their pay or check if they have betting accounts.

AFL will come out and say they made a mistake on that sling tackle free kick

Which means we won, again, against Carlton, except for the umpiring.

unbelievable.

Yes they will, would have most likely made a difference.

But the first half was shocking in the forward line. Were their defenders just have an amazing game or we wilted in the rain?

Too often we all went fort he ball with no players behind the pack in the wet,, that is where Kozzie and chandler should have been.

The touched may goal review wtf

Yeah amazing how quick they moved on once they found a clear view

21 scoring shots to 11 after one minute into the 2nd quarter. That’s so disappointing to not be able to have someone stand up early.

We miss Gus. I know it sucks but we are clearly down a quality midfield rotation.

I’m gutted - hate that pack of cheaters

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?
