Goodwin has out coached his opponents in almost every game this year. Superior strategy, tactics and implementation. The whole kit and caboodle.

It certainly sounded like a loud and very pro-Melbourne crowd.

51,795 puts it as our 5th biggest H&A crowd against them. The top 4 were all day games - I suspect we lost a few Geelong supporters to the night time slot.

I’m calling it.

That was pathetic from Geelong supporters last night. Only 10-15k of them turned up. Top of the table, haven’t lost a game all year, big game against a top 4 team at the home of football.

They couldn’t be bothered to show up.

I'm a total abstainer from the match day thread during the game and heard nothing from the clown commentators: what actually happened to Viney?

Take a bow tmac, I had you in a retirement home and you just destroyed the "best" player in the comp.

He has given the finger to time and space.

( And his knees I suppose).

“We were off early” - Scott

zero respect.

Watch any presser , they’ve never actually been genuinely beaten ever. Absolute Tool. Hopefully we get to belt them in a final again.

Interviewer: How's your head?

Max: Pretty good

Interviewer: What did the doctor say?

Max: he come onto the ground and asked me who we played last week - I said I have no idea

Doctor: Either have I . . . you're right to play on.

5 players 10 games or less

Take a bow boys. Can't overestimate how good it is playing big tight games against quality teams

Superb

Go dees

Goody was asked about this in his presser and said that Jack sometimes gets a stinger in his shoulder area but that it comes good after a minute of pain.

Looking forward to @WheeloRatings’s stats update but some I’ve noticed:

1. We had 7 of the top 9 pressure act players, with Clarry leading the way.

2. It’s either an ongoing tactic or injuries but we’re resting our mids in-game a lot more this year. Gawn 83% TOG, Trac 79%, Oliver and Viney 77%. All feel lower to me compared to previous years.

3. Doesn’t matter how quiet you keep Trac, he makes things happen - yet again, game high score involvements with 9.

Who called it on Harrison Petty!
Go Dee’s

[censored] ME as usual.

That was one of the more intense games I can remember being at for a long time. Brilliant stuff. Finals atmosphere, great match and loud crowd.

So many things to point out but most exciting for me was Clarry seemingly back and running the game out. Not at his best but so important. We can win the flag if he stays injury free from here.

Was worth paying $13.50 for mid strength beer lol.

Tom Stewart had little impact - did Turner play a defensive role on him? Tom Stewart having a mediocre game is a coaching triumph in itself.

Mids were beaten?

We won CPs by 3 and clearances by 1. Their major ball winners were half backs (Holmes and Z Guthrie).

Our mids were quiet for the first half.CP 2 disposals.Clarry Blanketed and Gawn holding his own.Viney went ok. Kozzy ineffective.

May,Lever,McVee really stood up and saved mistakes made across half forward.

That tap that resulted in Fritta's magic tricks was awesome. He ran all day and still had the wherewithal to intercept that pass. It won't go down as a traditional stat but it definitely a game saving effort.

Probably went unnoticed by a few too a 1% turned to gold.

He's had a few games back after an LTI.

Take what you said and reverse it.

Sure, there was context for sure. But numbers are numbers.

For the record, I haven’t personally called Petty out this year. I get why some would though. I just don’t find any value in people who make points in hindsight.

Not quite. Gawn referenced the on ground testing they do and that’s what cleared him.

Max probably should take those jokes out of repertoire though.

Huge thanks to our players for their heroics, but don’t forget Goody and his team.  Coaching MASTER CLASS!

I'd say Clarry had an iffy first half with some poor disposal at times.

But his second half was excellent.

His final quarter was Clarry at his best. Pure and Simple. A match winning quarter.

Tmac matched arguably the games best player Cameron all night  . Yes Cameron missed 2 uncharacteristically late…

Wellsy by that stage of the match there was a little man inside JC’s head his mind was elsewhere.

By a combined total of bugger all.  What part of the word contender don't you understand?

It's very simple really, if you can't win in September you are not a contender 🤷🏻‍♂️. My personal opinion.

It aint called Sleepy Hollow for nothing, most of they're kitty litter supporters only live a stones throw from the ground, just too lazy to come down to the big smoke, preffering Tax payer park as their El Dorado! SHAME ON THEM!

  • WHAT’S NEXT? by The Oracle

What’s next for a beleagured Melbourne Football Club down in form and confidence, facing  intense criticism and disapproval over some underwhelming recent performances and in the midst of a four game losing streak? Why, it’s Adelaide which boasts the best percentage in the AFL and has won six of its last seven games. The Crows are hot and not only that, the game is at the Adelaide Oval; yet another away fixture and the third in a row at a venue outside of Victoria. One of the problems the Demons have these days is that they rarely have the luxury of true home ground advantage, something they have enjoyed just once since mid April.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
