Hipwood smashed and caught red hot but still plays for the free throwing his head around and rolling his eyes after at the ump as if he's unlucky.

Have to say i really dislike Brissy.

If it's not going to be us then GWS all the way. You only have to look at the alternatives in Geelong, Sydney, Carlton, Collingwood.

GWS would be far more tolerable as premiers. Then we should pick off some of their talented youngsters.

How do we pick off their youngsters??? They’d stay for sure. So much talent.

Makes the loss even more painful to bare. The only other team they have beaten is Norf. It’s not good company to keep for the time being.

Hope that some combination of money, home factor, senior opportunities will shake someone loose. Most likely they'll wrap up their superstars but there is so much talent on that list playing in the ressies.

The one rider I’ll put on Brisbane is that they have had a relatively brutal fixture.

GWS, Geelong, Carlton, Collingwood, us, Fremantle (away), North.

Their next month is GC, Adel, Rich, Haw. If they can’t go 3-1 or 4-0, then I’ll be happy to say they’re done.

This is the reality. Same with the Suns. No one cares if they win a flag unless you're playing them in the GF

How predictable the whole “how did we lose to [insert name of team who were just thumped]? They’re absolutely sch!tt and yet they beat us!” thing is. Extremely predictable and extremely tiresome.

What a redundant comment to make in general, but especially when it was the Giants and not North Melbourne or WCE who belted the Lions.

I hate it almost as much as I hate this old chestnut (to be said in your sternest voice while wagging your finger): “I hope you’re watching this, Goodwin. You could learn a thing or two.”

Mods, we really need an eye roll reaction.

We got owned by Brisvegas for 4 Quarters, but you call it an overreaction.
Did you actually watch tonight’s game?

I never called it an overreaction. I’m calling it a useless reaction.

Yes I did watch tonight’s game. Not sure what difference that makes but then I’m not the one posing the useless questions.

One of the beauties of AFL is how much form can fluctuate dramatically from week to week. I suspect it is the physical nature of the game but that probably doesn't explain everything. Brisbane thrashed us for three quarters last week... at the MCG. GWS, who look to be the most talented side in the comp, thrashed the Lions. Teams will lose games they are expected to win and win games they are expected to lose.

It all sorts itself out in the last week of September.

Everything they tried against us worked. Even the ball ran for them. Average players played the game of their careers. Even Hipwood impressed (briefly) before fading back into irrelevance in the second half.

Even without considering our lead-in work load, it was just one of those games.

Let it go.

Goodwin is not fond of watching when our team gets belted. Remember how he didn't review the 2018 PF against West Coast.

Yeah but they have to live in western Sydney!

Give them a bell in early January when that big compressed heatsink of roads, industrial estates and black rooves turns it into a 50c oven

Thanks all for your comments/concerns (?).

My name is actually St John (pronounced Sin-gen) Lascelles Mustafa Nguyen-Smith III. If I was playing AFL, I'm not sure that the commentators would call me by my full name.

Interestingly, I recall Neal-Bullen being called Bullen. It's the opposite of the abhorent behaviour which I have been calling out.

PS. Don't think this is over !!!

It's a long season "SWYL'...don't get too hung up on one game.

Agree with this if we can't be there on GF day.

The thought of GWS beating Carlton or Collingwood by 1 point on GF day is a bit good.

The city will be a ghost town as it was after the 2018 GF.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
