AFL Mid-Season Draft 2024

isn't the maxim 'you draft for talent and you trade for role'?

But surely the mid season draft is surely different than the national and rookie drafts. I would see it as absolutely role / needs driven

true, but that wouldn't be consistent with us taking disco a few years back - we didn't REALLY need a tall defender, but there he is a couple of years later...in our forward line...

If big strong midfielder is needed to bolster our midfield depth, contender would be Riley Collier-Dawkins. With the departures of Brayshaw, Jordon, Harmes, Dunstan … midfield depth is seriously eroded.  Having an excellent year at Williamstown and one of the best in the VFL comp.  Good size and pace.  Would be good at the contest and drive hard at second chance.

Haven't seen enough of him to commit but his second half against Casey on Sunday was very good.

I suspect McQualter would know a fair bit about him

Agreed.

Targeting a mid has to be high on the agenda to cover or provide depth for the three amigos surely.

It's a very long season and we could potentially be exposed here at any time but especially as we get deep into the second half.

Riley Collier-Dawkins was very good v Essendon in VFL yesterday.  Has the mature body, experience and skills to make an impact straight away. I like his quick burst in stoppages.  Given the loss of our midfield depth, I’d support choosing him in the mid year draft. Also means Trac can rotate forward more if we had more midfield options.

I haven’t seen him play this year but high draft pick so clearly has talent. We are desperate for midfield depth IMO so I’d be all for it if he is the best available.

Paul Amy has reported

A bit of AFL interest in star Northern Bullant Jean-Luc Velissaris for the mid year draft.  His coach Rohan Welsh confirm:  'He’s tough, he wins it inside, he uses it well and he’s so consistent. He might be one of those guys who gets to the next level and rises again.’

apparently was very good again v Pies VFL on the weekend

Jean-Luc Velissaris is a 179cm vanilla midfielder who whilst rack up the numbers he's not a damaging midfield at all.

Looks and plays very similar to Jack Graham from Richmond

Pass.

In line with the advice on hair and some herbs and flowers such as daisies, you need to cut them to promote further growth. Seems you're on top of that though?

Which friend? Moonshadow? There's nothing you and me can do to impact the level of shadow across the moon from the perspective of earth, unless we go inside.

Our mid field coach would help with any info

Jack Graham is a solid AFL player. I doubt we will do better in the mid-season draft.

Cheers DD36.  I haven’t seen much of the Bullants so couldn’t comment.

Seems like there’s a few ruck options and I think that’s where we’ll go if those options remain available — otherwise it’s gotta be midfield depth. Lots of inside mids but finding one with decent foot-skills will be the challenge.

Ex-Saint Daniel McKenzie (27) is on the radar of a few clubs recently. Gaining "significant interest" reportedly.

Yes/No?

I like all the optimism about the mid-season draft, but in reality it isn't going to provide any stars, just band aids.

I think Disco was a real anomaly, a smart footballer with great athleticism who is able to play multiple roles.  Still, it's taken him years to get to this point, not a quick fix at all.

If we do get something good out of the MSD, then I say go an buy a lotto ticket too, but most of the players *may* just play a role.

A list of former AFL listed players that have nominated.

I was keen on Teakle at the start of the year and think we should seriously look at him.  The few games he played for port he showed he was a capable ruckman and not bad up fwd either.  At least a good backup if anything happened to max.

The other worth looking at is Bianco, good footballer who maybe needed that drive after being delisted to get to the next level.

I really think Teakle is a go though, i have heard from a couple of Port people i know he may have attitude issues though.

Port must really dislike Teakle, they recruited 2 rucks in the off season - bit suspicious for that reason but fills a clear need.

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
