Pies media management really is second to none 🤮

No one should be expecting on field violence, it’s not going to happen and if it did what good would it really do? One of our players getting 6 weeks for knocking out a bog-standard back pocket player? Pointless.

Nothing we can do except beat them on the scoreboard and win another flag.

Well they have the entire AFL media working for them. With HQ imprimatur of course.

Time for your periodic reminded that Brayden Maynard has hospitalised an opponent with a head injury every season since Craig McRae became Collingwood coach.

Thanks for sparing the rest of us from watching such a shameless video LG.

I don't doubt you re the bit above, but if you or someone can list each case it would be useful in dealing with the  'footy acts' aquaintenences I have unfortunately.

Only Max or Tmac should entertain the idea of knocking him out since they qualify for the good guy defence.

Hashtag as if 🙄

Cripps in that list!

25 minute interview with Brayden Maynard's mum on AFL website's vacuous "Mum's with mics" segment.

"No one - no one intentionally goes out to do anything like that... and if they did, they shouldn't be playing footy."

Well she nailed it right there - just missing "should intentionally"

The shaping of the narrative has started early. Talking about the 'media coverage' and how upsetting it was.

I've watched it an extracted most of what was said about the incident, so nobody else needs to wade through the rest of the tedium.

"It's pretty hurtful stuff. It's pretty hurtful stuff. Because [shrugs and smiles] it's a footy act. It's a footy act."

"No one - no one intentionally goes out to do anything like that... and if they did, they shouldn't be playing footy. But it is - it is a contact sport. Like, it is, it is, and, sadly stuff does happen."

"I think the fact that a career ended... to be pinpointed on my son, that just breaks my heart because that just - that just is not the case. It's not. No."

No, they did not mentioned Angus Brayshaw by name at any point, nor express any condolences or sympathy for him or, for that matter, his mum. For example as you can see in the quotes here, it was 'a career ended'.

Time for your periodic reminded that Brayden Maynard has hospitalised an opponent with a head injury every season since Craig McRae became Collingwood coach.

I am glad to know my mom would never participate in some rubbish like this.

And Maguire on channel 9

My anger towards Maynard is enormous and the only time I have really wanted to see a player get hurt.

However this anger pales into insignificance against the anger felt towards the AFL, McGuire and the toady media for their sycophantic coverage and predetermined, manufactured outcome.

I truly hope the Frawley family and others pursue law suits against the AFL and the Gus incident is highlighted as an example of dereliction of a duty of care with individuals named.

Where's the Go Fund me to support this? I am all in.

I was watching origin last night. I could actually hear the impact of that hit through my tv.

Not me. I knew we were [censored]’d as soon as he retired.

I’m not looking forward to this game.

Firstly I cannot look at their no 4 without clenching my fists and baring my teeth. After being at that game last year and putting up with the most feral Pies supporters I’ve ever had the misfortune of coming across, I vowed  never, ever to go to a Dees vs Pies match again. I didn’t watch one minute of last years GF - I was still so upset so spent the day at the beach away from any football updates.

As it’s a Pies game - I refuse to give that rotten club one cent of my money.

I will watch the game at home with my MND beanie on and pray we get over the line. I have made a sizeable donation to the MND charity so would rather donate to them than that awful club.

My husband is already a bit fearful of my reaction should we lose. He might end up sleeping in the goat house.

This is why other clubs don’t respect our fan base.

But it’s the truth, it is what happened Mrs. Maynard.

I understand his Mothers’ discomfort, but it is a fact that a players’ career ended after a head knock, caused by her son.

It was early in a final, after he had said during that week that he would make the opposition earn every possession and his opponent had been concussion free for the previous 5 years and was even wearing a helmet.

The bump was delivered by jumping off the ground, bracing with his shoulder and hitting the victim after he had disposed of the ball and was therefore unsuspecting of being smashed into.

They are facts.

PS: I have never thought that Maynard intended to knock Gus out, but rather to make him earn the kick after copping a decent bump and putting some fear into his team mates.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
