hardly 12 months. I think you'll find that the moment SIA get off their rear-ends and convene, that time served will be the punishment. We will impose 2 games like every other club. He is [censored] for doing it, but wasn't the first or will be the last to take recreational drugs in-season.

I wouldn't be surprised if we went a bit harder on the club imposed suspension.

Think 4 AFL matches minimum.

Any news on Kade Chandler???

Don't think fitness was his issue.

Looked to be back training yesterday.

Its never a good time but to do it in pre-season seems so cruel. Couldn't see him playing next year. He will have to rehab essentially until March 2025.

And from memory he will be out of contract at the end of 2024. Its a 2 way street with contracts. Get injured and you could get shafted with a poor contract.

I understand that young Bailey has done extremely well in business venture and will not be sweating on a big contract to pay the rent, bread and milk post 2024.

Petty back up and running after 131 days.

Encouraging. Only just started on the anti-gravity treadmill.

Game Over Meme GIF by Travis

Surely he and club could've done the selfless thing, come to a financial agreement and retired. Who didn't see this coming? Won't play a game this year. Could've used his spot to select JVR's brother in the rookie draft but now he's training with Freo which could turn out a disaster for us, they know what they're doing ...

Are you serious?

Stick a fork in him, he’s just about done I’m afraid.

Forward line is going to be a problem yet again this year.

JVR, Petty and Fritsch will have to bear the goal scoring load this year. Any contribution we get from BB this year will be a bonus.

Whatever's happens, we'll always have 2021. BB was fantastic in the finals series.

Hang on I’m just ringing Schultz, Acres and Henry to see if they agree with you.

Plus Fullarton is available, Tom Mac is fit again, Verrall and Jefferson may be improvers, as may the smaller Seston and Schache is break glass.

Disco is another that could be tried up forward if we are desperate.

Ed Langdon anyone?!!

Jesse Hogan for pick 6 (which we used to get Steven May) was a great success for them too!

Benny was restricted to only 7 games last year. Him not being there was not the issue.

Forward line only became a problem when we started losing the pieces towards the end of the year.
We were the highest scoring team for most of the season.
In saying that I hope we haven’t seen the last of Benny.

On the bright side...

No, I can't quite find a bright side.

The most positive I can be is that he might be available and fresh late in the season, OR he will call it a day and we can pick up someone in the mid-season draft or even the pre-season supplementary which runs until mid Feb.

Does anyone have some clarity about the latest changes to the 'inactive list' because if Brown is out for 6 to 8 weeks we may actually be eligible to put him on the inactive list right away without him retiring, which would let us snap a SSP selection. Perhaps the junior Van Rooyen can be ours after all?

I can’t believe anyone here actually thought he would play a role this year. Cooked is a massive understatement. Brown, TMac and to a slightly lesser extent Schache are what are commonly referred to as list cloggers. 21 was a long time ago for mine so please don’t roll out the “They helped us a win a flag and deserve…..” Rubbish it’s a business and we’re not playing it hard enough atm.
Jeez, I really got fired up!!

Admire the bloke's tenacity. Just a flesh wound! A 6-8 week rehab will see him cherry ripe for round 0.

I'm surprised theres such a strong reaction.

He signed a 4 year deal with a degenerative knee condition. A lot of us on here knew at the time that anything we got in the fourth year would be a bonus.

It was a shame that we couldn't get what we needed out of him last year when we needed it.

He was a 200cm proven key forward who was available. He got a 4 year deal that we knew he probably wouldn't see out to the end. We got a kpf for a good price when we needed it. He was very important in 2021. Its worked out to be a pretty good deal for both parties.

He has had a fantastic career, he is a fantastic person.

Sad to see his body break down like this, hopefully he can retire on his own terms.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
