 I’m back again. We just chatted again. He’s so funny. I said I’d better step back from him lest I take his eye out with my umbrella. Dave said, “geez imagine if that happened!” and we laughed. Clarrie says, “it wouldn’t matter, I’ve got two.” Then I said, “seriously Clarrie, you need to know us supporters love you so much, we’ve got your back, we always have and we always will, and we’ll always love you.” He said, “well someone has to” (love him). Before I could say anything he quickly added, “nah, thanks for that.” 

I know it’s been said many times already, but I felt compelled to say it again… your post brought a tear to my eye while I read it at work. Having heard him open up a little bit about how tough he has found the footy industry, I’m very sure he greatly appreciated what you said to him on our behalf. Thank you again for a truly beautiful post and a 10/10 training report 😊

What a bloody TERRIFIC training report and group of positive, near effusive, comments!!! LOVE the positive vibes.. kudos to all.

As for Matty J, we know what he is, and he’s also in his 2nd pre-season. He’s not JVR and we DO NOT want him to be, he’s more of your BBB OR Daniher type, or a Gunston with Height & a leap. He got him to contrast JVR & the club is absolutely RAPT with how he’s come back, his size etc so let’s stay positive & I think he’ll be a player bit it’s gonna take time. 

McAdam also doesn’t surprise me, sounds like exactly how I’d imagine, he’ll get more fit as we go but he’s never gonna be the fitness king, he’s a burst, magical type player that’ll provide plenty of fun and likely win us a few games from thin-air if he’s around 4-6yrs. 
 

Also continually getting vibe Billings is gonna be an epically important i50 player in 2024, hearing right now, all 3 new AFL recruits are in frame for R1 so that’s a great sign if we improve that much by adding 3 1st 22, likely 4-5 if you consider Howes Is also gonna push for a claim, KOLT perhaps can too. 
 

God I hate it being so far away, but I can’t blv im this excited buoyed by fact media and punters have jumped right off us, this bodes VERY well indeed.. 

 

Promised myself after the loss I wouldn’t get this keen again, boy that one lasted all of 2 training sessions!

ive been to a few training sessions myself and had difficulty in just random observations.

I could never complete reports as comprehensive as those of all the track watchers. Let alone the ability to concentrate on specific drills or people but reporting on the phone while you are observing.

Isn't great to get the forum back on track. I'm talking to the 90% of Demonlanders who come here for the right reasons. The other 10% (we all know who) can stop reading now.

As is so often the case, WCW leads the way again. Like a lot of us post season, I couldn't bring myself to visit DL for a while, knowing the vitriol and poison that you have to troll through to try and get some understanding of expectations not met.

Then you see a post from WCW and others that are hurting just as much but don't feel compelled to kick the dog or point the finger at everyone and everything.  I must admit, every time I visit here I am hoping to see a WCW post. Her positivity and insightful humour often changes my mood and day.

Hopefully, the naysayers here can take inspiration from her view of life and DL can eventually remove those cigarette package warnings about respect and behaviour.

We've strengthened significantly in our forward half for 2024.

Hopefully Jefferson comes on leaps and bounds this year and Tommy Fullarton intergrates well and takes his chances.

We have a really exciting forward mix now anything is possible even Tmac or BBB might suprises us but i will not hold my breath on that.

(Tmac always does well in a end of contract year)

This to me has kind of surprised me a bit, given he's come to us from Adelaide.  Darren Burgess had them doing pretty hard, intense training sessions when he was at Melbourne, I'd have thought McAdam would have been a part of that at Adelaide.  I know he'd spent much of the season injured, but still.

McAdams issues in Adelaide were preparation and fitness based. He would not do the off season work and would come back underdone. In trying to get up to speed with the rest of the team, he would invariably get injured and get further behind the eight ball. From there, it always became catch up through the season.
 

Apparently that’s why his best footy, most consistent footy has been played at the back end of the year when he has somewhat caught up fitness wise. 
 

Hopefully the change of environment at the Dees will help with his professionalism.

Thought you guys may like a bit of history about McAdam.... McAdam hails from Halls Creek, a remote town in north-east Western Australia in the East Kimberley region. A medium-sized forward, McAdam equaled Nic Naitanui’s running vertical jump record at the 2015 Draft Combine but was overlooked until he booted 31 goals in 17 games for Sturt in the 2017 SANFL season. Initially selected by Carlton as a mature-aged pre-draft access pick, McAdam was quickly traded to the Crows in 2018. An injury-interrupted start to 2019 meant McAdam made his Club debut in the SANFL in Round Five. His speed and athleticism were on display and he finished with 22 goals. Made his AFL debut in Round Four, 2020 and played 13 games, taking many Mark of the Year contenders throughout. The exciting goal sneak played 15 games in 2021 and 15 in 2022.

All you’ve done is copy word for word what is on the Adelaide Crows web page. They’re not going to provide any information about the negative side of his development or his approach to training which is what Deebamboozle is pointing out.

I’m sure it will. It certainly has for others who’ve come to us. I was talking to my buddy (Pauline, mother of he with the annoying foot issues and the the tall hair) about Shane looking knackered at training. She said that pretty much every player who’s come to us from another club (since Fritta started, anyways) has commented on how much harder and how much more serious training is at our Club. Maysie in particular found this to be true.

And where did you learn this information, BigFooty? You seem to be implying that he is lazy. Perhaps Burgess did not manage him properly with his injuries. It's on record that Lamb really targeted him, even knowing his history with injuries.

I don’t think so. The players who’ve come across from other clubs have expressed this when first they train with us. It’s a striking first impression. I’d say the majority very soon get used to it and have no trouble keeping up. Maysie was singled out in our convo because he took longer to adapt to such high intensity training. I reckon Shane has already improved in terms of stamina from Monday to Wednesday and was definitely coping much better on Friday.

I have worked with a lot of boys from the Kimberley including Mcadams brother and they aren’t the best trainers but flexibility is needed in the way to communicate and tailor their training to get the best out of them.

The effort is well worth it when you see the talent they possess and the Xfactor that can turn a game in 10 minutes

Thanks for the info @Pennant St Dee and others 

It all suggests to me that Adelaide did a really poor job meeting his needs and communicating with him 

He even said in his interview with us how good of a job Stafford does communicating exactly what he wants him to do and how much the club has done to make him feel at home 

I know not everything a player does is the club’s fault, but the above certainly aligns with a lot of the reports that have come out about Adelaide’s culture over the last few years, particularly in regard to their indigenous players…

Thank you for this because it explains a lot. So, they separate the new guys at times. There’s a few configurations. But… Shane is often separated from everyone and works on-on-one with Staffy. It didn’t seem like punishment or making an example of him, so I wondered why it was so. Now it makes sense.

Btw, ppl can bag Staffy all they like but he’s great one-on-one with the players, particularly the young boys and especially Shane. You can see they have a really good rapport. Besides that he’s a really nice person.

My point is that the post you were responding to was about McAdam’s fitness issues and you simply provided a history directly from Adelaide’s web page, which has nothing to do with his fitness issues. Also, if you’re going to quote word for word what is on the site, why not provide a credit?

Shane’s brother Dallas is one of the most talented players you will ever see, but unfortunately just lacks the commitment and some off field stuff impacted him. I know Claremont put a lot of work into him but it wasn’t for him
