Does anybody know if there’s a list spots/number of draft selections restriction on Gold Coast this year? I’ve heard it mentioned but I’m not sure if it comes into play this year.
Im just wondering if they can still split the picks they have.
If they can they might make the above trade between ourselves, WC and North easier to get across the line.
It would bring their pick 24(which is the second pick of the second round) into play.
Say our pick 42 and picks 57 & 58 goes to the Suns for Pick 24. Might help get it over the line.

- Melbourne gives 6 and 11, gets 2

- North Melbourne gives 2 and 3, gets 1 and 11

-West Coast gives 1, gets 3 and 6

So added to the above deal Dees get 23 and give 42

North give 57 and get 24

WC gives 23 and 58(perhaps with a later Suns pick coming back)

FWIW I’m hoping we hold onto 6 & 11, just throwing something out there as I thought the first proposed deal wasn’t great for us.

I'd trade 6 + 11 for 2 but not for 3, we'd need the pick after Reid (and Walter) to be sure we get our man.

I'd consider 6 for WC F1st, I'd do 6 for the F1st + 23 in a heartbeat, but I doubt WC offer that - more likely WC F1st + 23 for 6 + MFC F1st, I'd consider that too.

Wonder if there's any chance for us to get 15 or 17 from NM and pick 3 rather than pick 2 and 23.  My thinking being we seem keener on Duursma who most think will be pick 3 rather than 2 (walters aside).  Then at 15 or 17 we seem more likely to get a slider of someone spoken about in the mix for our pick 11

I mean WC won't do any deal unless they get 2 so that confirms they get their guy.  If NM gets 1 and Dee's get 2, they could still miss out on who they want.  So why wouldn't you accept 3, unless its not Duursma you are after, but Curtin?

So does every team really.  There are those who want to rise in the draft, and those who are looking to trade down for more picks.

Regarding the vote for trading Curtin for F1(WC), can WC actually make the offer?  Do they still have F2(WA)?  If so, I voted yes.

Hold onto the picks we have unless we can snag pick 1. I would much prefer two high quality players at 6 and 11 than one with pick 2/3.

Pick 6 is a cursed draft number. No great players of note have been picked with this draft number. Only 68 games average for all pick 6’s from 39 drafts which is the lowest number of average games played for all top 20 pick numbers. For example pick 5 averages 128 games and pick 7 averages 123 games. A trade should not be discounted.

It'll be pick 7 or 8 after bids, cursed lifted...!

You do realize pick 6 will end up being 7 or 8 by the time academy bids are matched?

Phew, I was starting to get a bit worried there 😆

Curtin’s manager said he has talked to the Dees, and that they said they would take him at 6, if he’s still there.

Skip ahead to about 10.30 in.

Most likely smoke and mirrors.

If true, I don't think our recruiting team would be too pleased with a player manager signalling our draft intentions two weeks out.

I’m also not convinced we’d make such a commitment to a draftee and his management team.

I just listened and that sounded to me like a bit of a "do the deal eagles" jab.

mind you i wouldn't be completely unhappy if we did happen to grab Curtin at 6, though i'm one of the people who really like the look of him as a key forward, he's a good key back, but just something about him as a forward really caught my eye

I have heard if we keep 6, we’ll take Caddy.  In saying that we are definitely open to trading it to WC for their future 1st.

Jeez I hope not - no disrespect to Caddy but I really don’t think we need to draft a forward with our first pick three years in a row, especially if Sanders, Curtin or even Leake is available (which at least one will be)

On the topic of trading pick 6 - I’m coming around to the idea more and more

Generally I still think it’s better to take whoever is best available at the top end of the draft and get a year of development into them - but if for some reason JT and Tim Lamb think there is a significant drop off between the top picks of this draft and pick 6, I’d certainly consider offering it to West Coast for their future first, which is almost guaranteed to be a top three or four pick (if not pick 1)

The other consideration is that next year’s draft is supposedly going to be much more midfield heavy, and I think that is the area we need to focus our drafting on going forward if/when we have picks at the top end (life after Viney/Trac/Clarry etc)

It’s would be a gamble, but if nothing else at least we’d have another death ride for next year 🤷‍♂️🏇

trade pick 6 for pick 1 or at worst two next year? of course you would

Hawks, Freo GC etc will all improve far  more that WC

Curious to know why some phantom drafts have Ryler Sanders slipping to pick 9 or 10!

Bloke couldn't have done much more, winning the Larke medal and being a key cog in the Sandy flag.

If he is available at our pick I would be really surprised if we don't take him, can never have enough midfield guns in my view.

I've somewhat come around to the idea of trading 6 for West Coast's future 1st. We would need to have their 23 come our way as well and we can give them Sydney's f2, though they would likely push for our f1.

Perhaps then 11 and 23 can net us pick 8 and we secure who we want anyway and have a top 2 pick for next year.

Still think I'd prefer 6 and 11 now though.
