Exceptionally limited preseason.

Selected to play AFL on the back of zero VFL form and lack of preparation.

Head-scratching selection decision.

Will turn it around.

Bravo.

His Value just went up stupendously tonight.

Enormous game by the big fella tonight, just proves how much of a loss he was going into the finals last year.

I'd love to see the adelaide boards saying we dodged a bullet to we missed out on Carey

Played a good game tonight. The stats sheet won't tell but he took some clutch contested marks.

Inching his way back into form.

I'd say he smashed his way back into supreme form last night.

Reckon that was the best contested marking performance by a MFC key position player since Neitz.

We smashed them in contested marking. Those marks are game changers.

They really slowed down the cats lightening transition at times. They were scary fast at times with their handballs and run and carry but when electing to kick we often had them covered.

Is everyone ok with him in the team now?

His potential for 2024 far outweighs anything any other player can provide across half forward.

We will persist AND we will persist past the next 3 week block of poor form you goldfish ‘endure’…

Shades of Max’s ‘breakout’ game against Geelong in 2015.

Supreme aerial performance.

Huge lift by Petty. Clunked several marks at pivotal moments in the game and good defensive acts. Laid a great foundation to build confidence off to start kicking more goals. Very happy for Petts.

Very pleased for him. I've been a critic of late and genuinely hope he makes me look silly next week and for the rest of the season.

I think he made you and others look a tad silly last night. No need to wait for next week for that to happen. 😉

People on this site forget Petty has played only 68 games and missed a lot of games thru injury.

Last night he had a good night because he just went for his marks and was gaining confidence in his foot.

One week does not make a swallow(or something like that)so rapt for him last night

i think you mean a sparrow in the hand is worth more than the greene on the other side?

Yes i think so .I used to be uncertain but now not sure

The fact that is was against a tall strong Cats defence, makes it even more impressive.

We just need to convince him to stay.

Harrison Petty stood up to be counted in the game that mattered the most, just like the rest of his team mates. It was a Special Effort.🔥🔥

Looks more impressive when you see it in one highlights package.

That’s an interesting highlight reel for Petty. Floating across the pack for a couple early like a key defender and then some marks while Maxy held ground for him. Even Disco gave him a chop out.

I’m happy for him but still think he’s better as a defender. In any case, we’d better win a flag this year as he is gone in 2025. No doubt about it. If he could sign on the dotted line today for Adelaide he would.

Please. Max is the GOAT

Petty had a great game though. He's nearly back to where we thought he could be A few decisions he would like back but that performance would put fear into oppositions

It was great to see last night

I think it was good coaching to see him further up the ground, getting into the rhythm of the game

Why do you say that? Just an opinion?

@JJJ usually has good mail

Wonder if Adelaide are still going to come to the party with their first rounder. Their improving but still unlikely for finals you would imagine. Pick between 6 and 12 perhaps on offer?

Petty is a FA in 2026. If he leaves then, the most we can get is a first round comp which would realistically be 13-19. Plus, if he leaves then, and we want to bring in a free agent ourselves, then that will dilute our compensation.

If Petty plays the rest of the season like he did last night then his asking price for a trade is very high indeed.

It'll be an interesting trade season for us. If there's some good FAs available to us and the trade offer for Petty includes multiple first round (and high first-round) picks then we could set ourselves to be competing for a premiership for another 10 years. (eg pick up another 2 star midfielders to replace Clarry and Trac)

Either way, a performing Petty means MFC is doing well.

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwin’s summer of love. Many issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.

  • AFLW REPORT: Western Bulldogs

We’re back! That was fun. The Mighty Dees’ Season 10 campaign is off toa flying start with a commanding 48-point winover the Western Bulldogs, retaining the Hampson-Hardeman Cup in style. After a hard-fought first half in slippery conditions, the Dees came out in the second half and showcased their trademark superior class, piling on four goals in the third termand never looked back.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
