I think we persist with Petty. You need absolute competitors up forward in finals. Finals tend to bring heaps more pressure on the ball carrier, and at times we may need to just bomb it in long to gain territory. Petty, at his best, is a fantastic contested mark and is someone who could have one of those nights to turn a game.

Do you mean

1 "One of these nights" by the Eagles or

2 "One more night" by  Phil Collins??

The Swap is that Petty is a higher quality back, and Tmac is a level above Petty as a forward. So it’s a no brainer.

Don't think T-Mac.will be changing roles up forward anytime soon King.

Playing some of his best footy in a few years down back and has trained solely as a defender pre-season and so far throughout 2024.

We are relying on his intercept, one v one defendong and short game to slice and dice our way from deep in defence out towards the wing, while maintaining possession as much as possible.

Out of all our regular defenders in 2024, he's also one of our most accurate users of the ball by foot, running at 81% kicking efficiency only 2nd behind our best kick, McVee, on 84%

Very much doubt he'll be going forward unless all key forwards ended up off the ground injured.

Our favourite columnist and tv journo (Ralphy) reporting that Adelaide have out their 2 first rounders (this year and next) on the table for Will Hayward.

Tells me:

1) They are not dealing for Petty this year. He may just walk next year if we let him.

2) Haywards asking trade price is going to be way too high for what he is worth.

Isn’t Hayward a free agent?

It is accurate. We have less depth than last year and against the Cats and Blues over the next fortnight and other contenders later in the year we can’t carry players. Couldn’t care less about teams like the Tigers.

The window for us is closing so we need to make every post a winner.

Welcome back Harry.  Your contested marking tonight was first  rate.
So glad the selectors don’t decide according to the demo(n)cratic votes on this forum.

It’s been easy to forget just how good he is. He was huge tonight… he’s back.

Massive game by Petty. I’ve always believed he was the most promising young back man in the league, and he probably was. But to start to do it as a forward, then get injured, and come back, and face doubters. It’s refreshing to see a performance like tonight. I still think he’s our future post Steve May. But at the very least, if he keeps this up, and does wish to go back home, Crows will have to cough up a couple 1st rounders, and one will be low.

Can't remember the last time we had another big key forward who can take huge contested marks to influence a game like Petty did tonight. I thought his work up the ground as a genuine CHF was outstanding in the last. We usually leave it to Max to get clobbered and take those marks down the stretch. But Petty just took ownership.

His disposal wasn't great but boy did he present well and was a catalyst for many of our looks at goal with his body work and positioning.

That hand he got on the cats kick across half back to spoil and eventuate into the Fritta goal to win the game was crucial.

Loved his honest interview after the game too. Saying he owed the team a better performance. Also the way his team mates celebrated him expressing how impressed they were with his big marking as they all walked off together.

We've been missing a player with this size and presence and he's starting to come back into form.

On the last day of trade Adelaide offered two first rounders, 11 and 15

His Value just went up stupendously tonight.

Enormous game by the big fella tonight, just proves how much of a loss he was going into the finals last year.

I’m not convinced yet. It was a stellar game and it does look like an upward trajectory in performance for a few weeks now.

I’d give it a few more weeks to see where he gets.

Petty looked like a guy coming off a serious injury and limited preseason regaining confidence in both his ability to launch at marks and get to more contests. Great to see unlike a lot on here the coaches persevered as it was only a matter of time the dukes were back to clunking them.

That pack mark he casually took at Half Back was the turning point, he didn’t even need to be there.

Watching a big bloke with sticky hands is one of the truly beautiful things about football.

He was very good. He also played a lot higher up the ground which I think is where he should play (or down back of course). Playing him deep as a forward is still not the solution.

Some of his decision making and skill execution was still pretty poor but I am happy that he has some form.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
