Remember in the direct post siren flurry on King's Birthday it was Maynard breaking up Cox from Trac? I can therefore assume it was Max that left the room...?

    It was Max who let Maynard into the house according to Caro.

    You know [censored] is bad when Max Gawn is so angry he has to leave a room. This is a man who gets literally punched in the head and kneed in the ribs illegally 12 times a quarter and never ever retaliates back. 

    He and Gus are extremely close. He must be incredibly upset about this situation.

    Just watched the incident again and feel like punching a hole in the TV. Maynard carrying on first pumping his mates after that makes me sick. Can't wait to see him rubbed out and miss out on the rest of the season.

    Did you see the steam coming out of Jacks ears.  I’m incredibly proud of the restraint he showed, to not get rubbed out himself, that was true leadership by Jack.  If that was the grand final I can’t tell you what sort of carnage would have ensued….

    The whole thing sounded so flimsy. As if you'd just rock up to someone's house unannounced after a situation like that. I know he tried calling Gus's mother but was apparently met with resistance. Without knowing everything it sounds like Brayden really needed to read the room better, even trying this stunt next week would have been better than in the days after.

    Seems awfully desperate to make amends which to me seems like he’s feeling guilty more than anything. If it was a complete accident, I’m not sure he’d go to these lengths. Also, who doesn’t call ahead?

    Fugging oath it was awkward!, that stain directly contributed to us playing with a man less i.e Laurie playing 95% game time. 

    I thought he'd broken his neck the way he was laid out.

    It keeps having the stink of the domestic violence perpetrator.

    Maynard the routine thug with a long record of low acts and cheap shots that could have caused an injury like this at any time. He's got a crowd of 'mates' who cheer him on every time.

    When it finally happens there is a moment where he and the mates actively celebrates the 'successful' hit, and then reality kicks in and he goes into high-speed excuse mode 'oh it was just one time and it was an accident and they also contributed to it I really love them and I'm really upset about it all please stop victimising me' and the mates all rally around him for his record of tough-but-fair because 'there hasn't been an injury like this before.

    Followed up with the thoughtless and rote-learned sorry ritual, 'I brought choccies, luv, you can have them as soon as they've removed the wireframe from your jaw'. Seriously, bringing wine to someone with severe concussion is a special touch which just emphasizes how much the apology was about the look.

    It'll be a very short space of time before we see anyone who is 'still hanging on to that past issue' being mocked and sidelined in the media.

    The other analogy would be to the chronic dangerous driver being shocked that they killed a couple of children after spinning out of control, and begging for sympathy because it was a 'freak accident' that had no control over.

    Geez that picture makes you feel sorry for Gus. He wasn't concussed he was totally old cold and for a while. Maynard was flying at Gus before he jumped for whatever reason. I now the blokes no genius but he's played enough footy to know he would have collided with Gus after making a beeline at him from ten metres away. Regardless of if it costs us a flag or what punishment does or doesn't transpire, I just hope Gus is ok. But I can't imagine he will be. Psychologically it's going to have scars and I wouldn't be at all surprised if he called it quits.

    Gawn gave Maynard a mouthful when Maynard couched down to check on Brayshaw when the stretcher was coming. You can see him do it in the background, so not surprised if it was Gawn. Gawn and Gus are basically best mates.

    Sometimes I tend to look at the simple things that matter in an incident. In this case which Melbourne player has a history of concussion issues and infact wears a helmut because of it. Angus Brayshaw. Which filth player is the dirtiest mongrel in their side. Maynard.  Add to the fact that Brayshaw is one of Melbournes prime ball movers and Maynard is nothing but a rabid september magpie. It is the start of a final. 2 + 2 = 4 not 78

    Serious question, if we somehow made the Grand final and played Collingwood, and Brayshaw played, would the Collingwood supporters boo him? I honestly think they would. Some of the comments coming out has shown how classless Pies supporters are.

      A hundred years ago today, on 2 May 1925, Melbourne kicked off the new season with a 47 point victory over St Kilda to take top place on the VFL ladder after the opening round of the new season.  Top place was a relatively unknown position for the team then known as the “Fuchsias.” They had finished last in 1923 and rose by only one place in the following year although the final home and away round heralded a promise of things to come when they surprised the eventual premiers Essendon. That victory set the stage for more improvement and it came rapidly. In this series, I will tell the story of how the 1925 season unfolded for the Melbourne Football Club and how it made the VFL finals for the first time in a decade on the way to the ultimate triumph a year later.

      Saturday’s election night game in Perth between the West Coast Eagles and Melbourne represents 18th vs 15th which makes it a tough decision as to which party to favour. The Eagles have yet to break the ice under their new coach in Andrew McQualter who is the second understudy in a row to confront Demon Coach Simon Goodwin who was also winless until a fortnight ago. On that basis, many punters might be considering to go with the donkey vote but I’ve been assigned with the task of helping readers to come to a considered opinion on this matter of vital importance across the nation. It was almost a year ago that I wrote a preview here of the Demons’ away game against the Eagles (under the name William from Waalitj because it was Indigenous Round).  I issued a warning that it was a danger game, based on my local knowledge that the home team were no longer easybeats and that they possessed a wunderkind generational player in Harley Reid who was capable of producing stellar performances playing among men a decade and more older than he.  At the time, the Eagles already had two wins off the back of a couple of the young man’s masterclasses and they had recently given the Bombers a scare straight after their Anzac Day blockbuster draw against the then reigning premiers.

      Round 08 of the 2025 AFL Season kicks off on Thursday with a must-win game for the Bombers to stay in touch with the top eight, while the struggling Roos seek a morale-boosting upset. Friday sees the Saints desperate for a win as well if they are to stay in finals contention and their opponents the Dockers will be eager to crack in to the Top 8 with a win on the road. Saturday kicks off with a pivotal clash for both sides asthe Bulldogs look to solidify their top-eight spot, while Port seeks to shake their pretender tag. Then the Crows will be looking to steady their topsy turvy season against a resurgent Blues looking to make it 4 wins on the trot. On Election Night a Blockbuster will see the ladder-leading Pies take on the Cats, who are keen to bounce back after a narrow loss. On Sunday the Sydney Derby promises fireworks as the Giants aim to cement their top-eight status, while the Swans fight to keep their season alive. The Hawks, celebrating their centenary, will be looking to easily account for the Tigers who are desperate to halt their slide. The Round concludes on Sunday Night with a top end of the table QClash with significant ladder implications; both Queensland teams are in scintillating form.     • REPORT: Richmond

      The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.
